    I saw an exhibit of most of Kandinsky's work at the Atlanta Art Museum way back in the early 80's. What amazed me was the pre-painting blueprints of all his works. Every line drawn out like an architect. His paintings were not " free form " in any way. Every line, circle, shape and color were all pre-chosen and carefully laid out. Just like his clothing. The exhibit was most enlightening. I felt very honored and especially blessed to have been able to see his inner workings of the man I admired so much.

    I went to the Guggenheim in NYC and saw his exhibition there and I was speechless. I have never felt so connected with any other artist or paintings. His work just spoke to me. I'm a science guy but I go to art to relax. It was the best experience I've had in a museum. The way the exhibit was set up to match the Guggenheim architecture was the cherry on the top.

    My heart broke at hearing he died in obscurity ☹️ But I love how much he contributed to the art world and how admired he is today, thank you for teaching us about his life! I knew nothing of it! Also I love how he got dressed up to paint. Maybe every time he painted was a big event for him?

      Dear Ana: Don't feel so sorry for him. It sounds like he was a "trust fund baby" who never really needed to work for a living, so he was hardly a "starving artist". The fact that he even wore suits while he painted showed how he flaunted his affluence. I love Kandinsky's work too, but it sounds like painting is what he did while he wasn't spending his inheritance.

    Actually, Kandinsky was amazed with the fact that you can read a music partiture and play it anywhere in the world, as opposed to languages. He synthetized this concept with the idea that white and black dots can transmit feelings and emotions. This was the drive that made him experiment with his art and gradually move away from established forms, to an abstract medium to transmit feelings and emotions. Just for that, he was one of the most underrated genius of the last century. Picasso concerning shape, Matisse concerning color and Kandinsky concerning the concept.

    • @ArtHistorySchool
      @ArtHistorySchool  Před 3 lety

      That is a very interesting comment. He was very much a genius.

      @@ArtHistorySchool These concepts are in his books, Concerning the Spiritual in Art and Point and Plane to Plane. Love Kandinsky's abstractions but recently have really become enamored with his landscapes - which when viewed provide a sense of Kandinsky's brilliance with color. But even as his work prior to the Blue Ryder period became more abstract, show Kandinsky's superb drawing ability. In one of several books I own of Kandinsky, he recounts how one day coming home to his studio saw one of his paintings through the window lit differently than he was used to viewing it, inspired him to create the more abstract paintings he would become famous for.

    Kandinski was a major influence on my work since I first learned about him in art school in the 1970s. And, would you consider doing a video of Gabriel Munter? I didn't learn a thing about her until just a few years ago. That's a sad thing because I believe she was a superior artist in her own right :) I'd love to learn as much about her as I can, and perhaps see more of her paintings. I have a board on Pinterest dedicated to her - and to Kandinski, too, of course. And, to many other artists, as well. If I had the access to all the images i now have on my Pinterest site, wow! Art History would have been so much more relevant for my own development as an artist.
