I have had Tobii eye tracker 4c for a while now (bought for Elite Dangerous, used in many more games) and I gotta tell you one thing: Giants' support of it is sh*t.
the games can have settings in two places - in tobii app or in-game, I believe it's decided on what side settings are is based on some kind of contract agreement between developers of both.
The two very good examples are Elite Dangerous and Euro/American Truck Simulators, these games represent both options executed very well.
FS doesn't have sh*t in settings, only a vague sensitivity. If done good you can set a detailed curve of sensitivity on how much, how far, how well and how multiplied the reading is AND you have two separate curves for eye and head tracking (bc it can do both).
I usually set eye tracking to minimum and move my head, bc that removes the twitching when blinking and other stuff.

Someone above was mentioning looking behind you, I haven't played the other games mentioned but from what it sounds like, at least in the Tobii settings, you should be able to configure it to track your head to make a full-ish 350 degree camera arc for 90 degrees of head movement, then leave the finer details to eye movement right?

  • @esab1670

I'm sure it would take some getting used to for the typical forward viewing but as it seems to be using your eyes not your head for the finer details maaaaybe it would be manageable once you adjusted to it?

I got the tobii 5 and love it for some other games, but I found in FS19 and now in FS22 that I can't look back behind me from the drivers seat without breaking my OWN neck, how am I suppose to look directly behind me when reversing (e.g. down at the center point where you hook up to trailers) , they don't have any in game settings and the app that comes with the hardware says the settings are in the software. FYI I did this comment before watching the vid, will watch now and hope you have a solution.
I found the "eye gaze" tracker a pain and distracting, when looking down at the map the screen moves so you don't get to see what is in front of you as easy, is constant moving as you move your eyes I hate, so that is one feature I turned off.
Sticky pads - the sticky pads under the monitor, - before you do make sure the bevel of the monitor doesn't get warm (mine does) after about 3 months my pads fell off and wouldn't stick, I had to build a shelf and rest the tracker on it.
I'm a K/M player of FS so always on the mouse so find it easy enough to look around with mouse, but other games like Elite / Star Citizen etc where I use my HOTAS it's an awesome bit of kit.
FSG -- You mentioned about the settings where it's set to 50% by default - Where are you seeing this setting, in my FS22 menu it just has a toggle for ON/OFF, no setting to adjust rate turning speed or anything, other games I play have about 5-6 different options and scaling.
Overall, I think it's a great product and worth the money and the issue of looking behind is down to the GAME not the tobii tracker, the game really needs more options in it.

While I sit somewhat firmly in the "$220 is a bit much still" camp, it's a bit better than the normal $260. Having said that I'm interested to see what progress you might make in adjusting the settings, toying with the head vs eye tracking settings mentioned by another commenter, and overall just seeing if it reaches a point where external mods (Quick Camera for example) are no longer needed. Regrettably I don't think it would help with what I find my biggest frustration in FS, depth perception. I really enjoy the in-cab work, the immersion is both awe inspiring (the level of detail Giants and Modders put into their work) and relaxing (escapism is real folks) but the moment I am trying to fork a pallet, or any other fine depth requiring work I have to jump to that outside camera for perspective (I can't help but equate it to a dog tilting it's head for audio locating).
Don't think you were going to skate by without a single inquiry into Interactive Control though. I fear some of the buttons might be a bit to small if there are more than one in close proximity, BUT I could easily see where you could all but do away with the side panel in a properly equipped tractor...
Suggestions for a follow up, How things have gone after some setting adjustment, Does it work with IC, Do you find Giants supports it as well as other developers (as some have mentioned ETS, I don't play but it would be interesting to know if it works even better there).
    Cheers

I have Tobii eye tracked 5 as well as TrackIR. I bought the Tobii to replace the TrackIR as I liked the idea of not needing something attached to my head and it gets rave reviews in some games. My main use is in MS Flight Sim and it works very well there. ETS2 works well as does Elite Dangerous. However the implementation in FS22 leaves an awful lot to be desired. In FS22 there is no settings for the Tobii other than centre the view. The sensitivity adjustment mentioned in the video appears to only work on mouse view. All the other game examples I have mentioned have very extensive eye/head tracking configuration. 99% of people in MS Flight Sim turn eye tracking off completely for example as slight movement of an eyeball causes an undesired cockpit movement. Also needed is a hotkey to disable the Tobii which has not been implemented. Tobii have a Game Hub that can be installed. This is designed for games that do not natively support Tobii tracking. Elite Dangerous is one of the games that is not natively supported. So Tobii provide a very nice external configuration menu similar to the one that TrackIR has and gives all manner of tweaks and adjustments. On the other hand, MS Flight sim natively supports Tobii and has welcomed their API and implemented config and adjustments of the Tobii very well within the game. So you think, why not with FS22 just do the same as Elite Dangerous and configure the Tobii settings via the Tobii Game Hub external to to FS22. Hard luck, the Game Hub entry for FS22 says it's fully supported by Giants and FS22. The only support in FS22 I can find is F8 to re-centre the view. I have asked for proper support of this device in the forums. I have seen other people asking the same thing also on Discord and via a support ticket. If you ask Tobii they just send you back to Giants.
One way around it for me I thought was to run TrackIR on FS22 until there is better implementation giving access to the needed adjustments and settings and use the Tobii for the above mentioned games/sims that work well with the Tobii. But there is conflict when both sets of drivers, Tobii and TrackIR exist on the same PC. It doesnt matter if the device not used is unplugged either. So for me at the moment I dont use any head tracking on FS22.

@@wrongway2001 a shame honestly. I came to FS19 as a free Stadia player (yeah that turned out as stellar as predicted) and was so interested in the mods I bought the PC version... When FS22 dropped I was already months into FOC and dove right into a pre-order Collectors Edition and a direct order digital (so I wouldn't have to wait in the mail). Frustrated as I was that there was going to be paid DLC I wrote it off thinking I was supporting what in the end would be a better product. While it is generationally better than FS19 I feel like Giants has taken the Rovio pay to pay mentality to Farming, I just hope it turns out better in the end as there is a great community behind the game and it would be a shame for something that amazing to be ruined by what appears to be a grab at cash.
Disclaimer, I do not fault a for-profit business for making profit, I just hope that some portion of the profit gets reinvested into the end product and at the moment I stretch to equate the cost of Season One being nearly the full original purchase price if the base game in and of itself.
Now, I wonder if some one of the modders would be able to integrate the input better, thinking along the lines of the mouse steering mod. It tweaks the input at what I would think to be nearly the same level of code as the eye trackers after all...

Can you show your settings for that? On DCS World it works perfectly. Also at Euro-Truck Simulator

Check you game.xml and if TrackIR is set to true, change it to false or delete that part all together, I’ve read in some cases that can fix it

Tobii is good but Trackir 5 is way better. More customizing and not as expensive as Tobii.

Yeah, it looks good, but I don't like the fact you have to attach something with a cable to your headset (I use a wireless one) or you are forced to have to wear a cap with something attached to it.

been using head trackers for yeaars now and i feel they are good on racing games and even flight sims and space sims but for farming they always feel off even got the tobi 5 and it just doesnt compare to the other games its a no for me with farming especially using eye tracking

    • @TheFarmSimGuy
      @TheFarmSimGuy  Před rokem +1

Is it the game rather than the eye tracker? as in the very limited scope for any adjustment in FS22? I'm a little dissapointed in the lack of options to adjust it beyond basic sensitivity
