I made 2 mistakes when i started collecting six scale figure. I paid way to much for first figure becouse i had no idea where to buy them at a good price. And second i bought a figure that i like but didnt love. I bought becouse it was on sale.
I recommend to do alot of Research. Compare prices google different shops etc.
It took me several months to find good and trustworthy online shop where i could buy them at a relatively low price.
Take your time and research.

Buy nice or buy twice. LOL that's why I went with the JazzInc 89 Batmobile instead of the Hot Toys one. Yeah it's twice the cost, but it's gonna be more accurate and made with love and care by Joost and his team...and I'd be hella bummed if I settled for the HT reprint knowing that there's a better (and more limited) version of the arguably most iconic Batmobile.
Yeah, I hope you'll be happy in the hand. Usually what ever one you perceive to be nicer is the one to go after.
I’m putting down a NRD tomorrow for the Vader Return of the Jedi 40th! I’m also saving to get the Chrome Mando. I don’t have any Hot Toys yet and am looking forward to slowly growing a collection. I must admit though, when you said you can buy Shore Troopers and Tusken Raiders really cheap on the secondary market I got super excited. That’s the stuff I want. The nameless grunts.

I recently just bought the Clone Wars Anakin from Sideshow when it was like 20% off. It’ll arrive next month as I’m making payments on it. I also put down an NRD preorder on the CW Sidious as it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen and I’d hate to miss out on it if it sells like hotcakes. Those are my first HotToys purchases.

Great advice. As someone who only recently started collecting, I would say starting slowly and methodically is best. I limited myself to one to two figures per month, and lately I've been trying to limit that even further, knowing there are a lot of figures that I will likely want to pre-order soon.
I'm only interested in Star Wars but I found that focusing on just one show (The Mandalorian) was helpful in terms of cost control, space utilization, and maximizing the number of scenes I can recreate and the stories I can tell with my collection.
I think having a place where you can properly display your figures is really important too. Lighting is absolutely key in this regard. Researching, planning, and creating some kind of setup takes time, and it's something you want to get right. It's also something you want to do early on so you can really see and appreciate all of the details in your figures.

Those times are always nice, but honestly, deals run throughout the year. I'd just keep an eye and jump on one when you see a discount you're content with.
