Torna Fort trekking Step by Step Guide :
Torna Fort is probably the most visited fort around Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It has gained this popularity due to its historical importance and the challenging trek that it offers. Torna was the first fort captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1646 at the age of 16.. Torna is the tallest fort in Pune and is also known as Prachandagad due to its size. The name derives from Prachanda (Marathi for huge or massive) and gad (Marathi for fort). For nature lovers and mountaineers, this place is paradise. It is the highest fort in Pune and offers some spectacular views of the Sahyadri mountains. Most structures on the fort are still intact. Is Torna fort difficult to climb?
Generally it is a moderately challenging route, One needs to be extra careful during the rainy season as the rocky patches get extremely slippery. This trek is definitely not recommended for beginners during the rainy season.

The hill has an elevation of 1,403 metres (4,603 ft) above sea level, making it the highest hill-fort in the district.

Best Time To Visit:
The best time to trek is in the winter months from September-March. Tourists can enjoy winter holidays trekking in this region.

How to reach Torna fort:
You can either go by your own vehicle to Torna or you can take a public transport bus from Swargate Bus Depot in Pune. Velhe is the base village from where the actual trek for Torna starts.

Time for Trekking / Trek Route ;
The trek route is pretty simple to follow but a bit difficult in the last few sections. If you drive to the parking lot, you will save around 25% of trekking time. From the parking lot, it should take 2 hours to get to the top of the fort.
From the base, it takes around 3 hours of trekking time. After covering around 60% of the hike, the trek gets pretty steep and for safety, railings are installed on the edges of the trek path.
