As always... on the money! Never a problem as long as I come to your channel! Thank you!
Thanks for uploading this informative video. Kudos.
Thank you ! this video was perfect for me to back up my Samsung phone that had 3 years of photos on it
Best and easiest explanation of a usb backup. Thank you!
Great video & information, and it worked perfectly thanks.
Hello! & BIG THANK YOU!
I'm getting a new phone & finally trying out an iPhone 13 to see what all the fuss is about and quiet my curiosity. We'll see how it goes Lol
A huge anxiety I've had is backing up my photos/videos mostly because I haven't updated the os & am somehow running my Samsung Galaxy S7 on the 7.0 version😰!
I knoww. I know lol.
My phone is on it's last breath & I've been pushing my luck. I've had a fear of trying to update the os now because it may not work & I'll lose the contents stored on my phone or something Weird will happen.
Thanks to you & your video, I know what to do now. Your instructions are great & your warm tone of voice, along with your positive encouraging energy
has calmed & reassured me. I can do this! It's gonna be Ok. lol
Anyhow, Thanks again I was really stressed out! I appreciate all of your help 😄 ❤🤓
Thnak you for this - very handy - all people should back up data.
One of the best illustrated piece of instructional video on CZcams.
Great job sir.
Thank you, glad you liked it 😊
Great helpful video. 👍 Thanks
Thanks for the vid. I agree with you on the points you made. Samsung has come a long way from the Note 2 / Touchwiz days of about 12 years ago.
Awesome! Didn't know this. Thank you.
Thank you for uploading this video
Thank you for this important and valuable information. Liked and Subscribed.😃
Welcome to the channel! 😊
Very helpful well explained video - thanks 👍
Thank you! Glad the video was helpful. 😊
Great video Charlie keep those videos comin take care
Thank you, Paul, will do. 😊
@@TechGuyCharlie no problem 👍
Thank you kind sir, been great help!
Very welcome!
Thanks been getting tips from you since the Sony xperia z1 days
That was many years ago!! Glad to see you are still around!
Thanks 👍Appreciate your interest in helping those who seek your advice in comments 🙏
Thanks! this is really useful. I am going to buy a flash drive to back up my Samsung s20+ as it is starting to get screen issues which are worrying me. This video is reassuring as it shows how easy it is to do. Thanks again!
Glad the video was helpful. 😊
Wow, VERY useful! 👍
This is amazing!!!
Thanks so much.
My brother passed away. This helped us keep his photos and videos. God bless you.
I am so sorry for your loss! 😔♥♥ I'd also suggest backing up all the photos and videos on a computer.
@@TechGuyCharlie I appreciate that. Thank you so
EXCELLENT video, just the tech solution I've been looking for. Question: if I perform another backup, say a month later to the SAME USB-C Flash Drive, is the previous backup completely overwritten OR are only the newest files ("deltas") added to the existing backup? Thanks, F1
Yo, Chuck, answer the guy's question. Quit screwing around!
@Nezello
Watching others' youtube videos, it appears a different 3rd alternative occurs. Multiple backups to the same thumb drive (or any external drive) are saved in a newly named folder(s). So, when restoring from a device that has multiple backups already saved on it, you would then have a choice of which data folder to restore from.
This is a very informative video and I will refer to it when i buy my next cellphone.
He mentions that you sign into your Samsung account, but I don't have a Samsung account. Do you know how I would proceed? I got my phone directly from T-Mobile.
@@deborahmargolis322 what cellphone model do you have?
Many thanks!
VERY HELPFUL..THANKS
You're welcome!
Super! Thanks!
I should definitely backup my phone some time too. Too lazy for it🙈🤣 But great work as always❤
You totally should, or at least move your photos and videos to a computer or a portable hard drive, better safe than sorry.
This an awesome video.
The first one I clicked on, on the subject.
I was looking up a way I could making a physical backup of mainly my videos as I use my phone as my video camera for my CZcams channel.
Thank you!! But if you want to take a backup of only your videos, then try using the built-in file manager to transfer the videos to a USB drive, its easier and also readable on a PC/TV/Media Player.
Charlie, great video
Hi Charlie. I was trying to backup my Snote20 Ultra and selected everything but did not ask me whether I wanted to do the Secured Folder. Any advise?
Thank you
Hiii I'm from your sub & appreciate the your videos . And Have Question can you store your important phone datas in flash drive and keep the flash drive with you for 2 or 3 or 4 years, i mean if the phone stolen & backup without viruses came in it (summary: how to keep your flash drive away from viruses)
And thank you for your hard work
thank you so much tech guy charlie
Anytime! 😊
thank you
My A54 would not see the USB 128Gb. I had to plug into PC with Win11. Change the USB size to 4GB only. Then plug the USB into Android A54. Go to Storage and the USB could be formated to FAT32 with 128GB using Android. It works.
Thanks
Thank you Charlie 😊
Rox🌟🇬🇧
Hey Roxanne, thank you for watching! 😊
Obrigado! Merci!
I find this funny. I just got a new S23 Ultra replacing my Note10+ and need to backup everything from the past 5 yrs from the Note. I have sooo much crap on it that I didn’t want to clutter my new phone with 😅 Thanks for a super helpful video!
Another thing you can do is dump the entire contents of your old phone like photos, videos on a computer, and copy over the rest of the stuff on to the new one, I usually do this.
bro give me the purchase link plz@@TechGuyCharlie
Then just backup files. For me my files( pdf amd docx) and important, as apps can be downloaded from playstore.
I changed from S7 edge to S24 recently, backed up to PC, and then individually deleted files i don't need. And restored rest to my new device
😂 I have a note 10 and finally upgrading to a s23 ultra and looked up. I have to order a new flashdrive to do this.
Hi i have a question, when you back up everything, are the Files (example: files, documents, installer files, compressed file, folders) in "My Files" or "File Manager" app saved? Or only the videos and photos? Thx
What for a colorful animation is it, on the s23 ultra at 4:33? It's look very nice. Can you tell me, what the name of the app is? I thank you!
Hey, can you share buying link for the samsung type c pen drive
What about internet bookmarks and 'add to homescreen' internet links? Does this feature also backup and restore those to a different phone too?
Great! What if I do not do Google backup for WhatsApp instead do this offline backup, will it work?
Hi, I am an old folk & not very tech savvy. Can u explain how do we regularly back up the content of the phone. Do we use the same USB & plug it into the phone in the same way we do it the 1st time? Then does that mean that what was transferred to the USB the 1st time gets override & the new content now takes over. So if we have deleted some phones from the phone to clear up storage, when we backup the phone with the USB the 2nd time , Will we then lose some of the contents that were originally transferred or backed up into the USB previously but is now not on the phone storage? Please advise. Thank you.
Time 0:50
How often should we Backup ?
Recommendation Please
Does this back a micro sod card as well.
all i want to do is move media clips from my phone that i don't want to delete but want to keep & move them onto a usb device to free up space, can you recommend a SSD flash drive and adapter to use?
Thank you. in the past I used Smartswitch, which wasn't that smart.
SmartSwitch works GREAT on Samsung phones and will even backup the Secure Folder(s) if you use that feature. I backup my my phone monthly to a USB drive and have ALWAYS used SmartSwitch when getting a new Samsung phone to transfer from the older Samsung phone. These backups are encrypted as well keeping them MUCH more secure than other "Cloud" based options!
Is this works on Old samsung phones too like A8+?
Video is super helpful.
I have a question which is :
Can this be done between Samsung to Iphone? Or just Samsung to Samsung?
Thank you
Hey. this feature only works on Samsung smartphones!
This is amazing, does it work on the Samsung S24 Ultra? Thank you so much! ❤
Yes! works on every Samsung phone running One UI 5 and above.
@@TechGuyCharlie Thanks Charlie!
Me personally using Samsung I back-up my phone at least once a month. Using the SmartSwitch app and a fast USB-C drive I can backup the contents of my phone in around 12-15minutes. With Samsung and MANY other brands your texts, apps, and some settings are backed up anyways but a complete backup will give you things like the homescreen settings, ALL texts for an unlimited time frame, and apps, and photos in case of a total disaster. I do NOT use Google photos because ALL your pictures/videos are stored in the "cloud" for all to see if hacked and is NOT secure enough IMO.
I personal USB drive is the way to go and have even setup reminders to do this ever month! It's NOT hard and can be done while watching TV or other tasks and know your data NEVER hits the internet. Next time you drop or your phone gets crushed you'll wish you've done a backup to a USB-C device! Speaking from experience here! A TOTAL data loss SUCKS and you lose things that cannot be replaced!
Agreed, a USB drive or a PC backup is the way to go!!
You know, as a rule, I am strictly against storing anything on the 'cloud' As you've said, accounts can be hacked and these days, there is a considerable risk of your data getting leaked too, and storing personal photos on the cloud is a big NO NO, you never know what these big tech giants are gonna do with it, call me paranoid, but I feel that way. 😂
@@TechGuyCharlie ; MANY people are oblivious to the risks of storing their entire lives in the cloud and completely UN-Encrypted to boot! Personal information selling is a BIG MONEY maker and if you read the "Terms and Conditions" you agree to this but NOBODY ever reads them! SO many apps have permissions to the microphone, camera, your contacts, texts, and the BIG one is location tracking! I periodically review these "apps" on my phone and turn off these permissions off!
With location you can limit tracking ONLY when the "app" is actually open and NOT running all the time in the background further draining your battery down. Other "apps" have NO need for camera, mic, or my contacts and are turned off as well!
@@TechGuyCharlie ; YES these GREEDY companies are FORCING you to use the "cloud" but it is SO venerable to hacking this is NO secure to ever use IMO!
Worked well to back up Samsung to flash drive. I also uploaded flash drive to PC. Charlie's video states you have to sign on to Samsung to decrypt to see files but I could not figure out a way to do this since Samsung app is only on my phone and not on my PC. Any suggestions?
Backup again with smart switch, before backing up, select "do not encrypt"
funny because the time thing was the opposite for me, it said it would take around 35 minutes but around 60% it increased to 4 hours
Did it finish? 🙈
I'M NOT SURE WHERE YOU'RE AT BUT MY WIFE AND I ARE ON THE EAST COAST IT IS 1:30 A.M. AND I REALLY NEED TO GET SOME SLEEP MY WIFE ESPECIALLY. ANYHOW I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW I'VE WATCHED ONLY 4 MINUTES OF YOUR VIDEO AND NOT ONLY CAN I UNDERSTAND YOU PERFECTLY BUTTS FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN THIS FAR IT SEEMS LIKE YOU GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. SO EVEN THOUGH I DON'T LIKE TO PUT THE CARRIAGE BEFORE THE HORSE I'M GOING TO SAY THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME OUT AND PUTTING CONTENT LIKE THIS FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO ARE NOT TECH SAVVY. AGAIN I'VE ONLY WATCHED APPROXIMATELY 4 MINUTES OF THE VIDEO DUE TO TIME AND SLEEP SO I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ACTUALLY ANSWER THIS QUESTION THAT I'M ABOUT TO ASK I HAVE A SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 4 DO THE SAME STEPS APPLY TO MY SAMSUNG Z FOLD 4.
AGAIN I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME OUT TO HELP PEOPLE SUCH AS MYSELF AND MY WIFE MAY YOU HAVE A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR........
Probably Charlie couldn't see your question among several notifications he may get. And I see the question was asked a while ago and you probably figured it by now. But if you haven't, yes it should work the same way as instructed in the video.
Can I delete the photos since I backed up my phone? And will it make more space on my phone. Thanks for sharing your video.
Yes! absolutely, you can delete them off your phone after taking a backup they will be safe on the USB drive.
BUT, if you are taking a backup just to free up space on your phone, then I'd recommend copying the photos and videos from your phone to a computer and then deleting them off your phone, that way you can view them whenever you want.
Thank you for your response.
Thank you for this and all your other informative videos I've used over the years. When I do the next back up on the same USB drive will it overwrite the original, add a total new backup or just update the files that have changed? You may have addressed that on the video but I did not notice. Thank you.
Thank you and I forgot to address this, but It overwrites the previous backup! It would be very convenient if Samsung introduced incremental backup.
@@TechGuyCharlie That is good to know, thank you for clarifying. I agree as even free backup software include incremental backups so Samsung could probably tweak it easy enough :-)
@TechGuyCharlie
Incremental backup of new or changed files only ("Deltas") is CPU intensive and will take MUCH longer to complete. Straight I/O copy depicted in your video is fastest. For additional safeguarding of data, best to use a rotation of several USB-C thumb drives instead of constantly overwriting one thumb drive.
❤
Does it download Google photos, too?
My new iPhone 15 stopped working in only two months due to major fault in the phone. I lost all everything.
Please let me know how to back up on iPhone 15.
Is it necessary to have a samsung account? Because the backup app can be downloaded from the google play store! and It is usually already installed on the phone. At the same time, it's on a USB stick, can't we create a password code to access our data?
Is It possible to restore to another phone model? Same manufacturer but different model. Let s say xiami redmi note 8 to 12pro
Not a savvy user. How can I check to see what Samsung account I used on the phone before I encrypt the data?
I found out how to change the passsword.. thank you
I am trying to USB backup a Samsung in preparation for rooting. How am I supposed to do this if I need account credentials. The "phone" has no service provider, I brought it from Target-- only use is as a personal wifi device (do things like browse CZcams, check email, listen to playlists). The only access codes I have are my Gmail password and the lock screen code
i'm just backing it up in case rooting goes wrong and I need to restore the phone.
This old video works. So, this also backed all my junk on the SD card in my Samsung A54. Is there a way to stop this from backing up the SD card also?
What about the secure folder
Would anybody know after transfer and you sign in to samsuung account how much of the information is samsuung able to see or keep.
We have basic and mid range Samsung phones but they do not have any option to back up to external drives. How to fix this problem?
my samsung s7 doesn't have "external storage transfer" in settings! what do i do?
I always use a USB Stick to back up my Galaxy I do it on the 1st of every month.
Hi there. Will this backup work on all the files from my old Samsung phone (both internal storage contents + micro sd card storage contents) and transfer them to a newer Samsung phone (with internal storage only)? Your kind advice would be appreciated 😊👍
Yes it will, I've transferred a backup from my old S9+ to a newer S23 Ultra without any issues. Contents of the SD card will be saved to the internal memory of the new phone.
Can you load your backup to your computer
Hey Charlie can you make a video about when to replace thermal of hp pavillion gaming laptop
I have exactly same specs that you have
It has been 1.7 years old
Considering the heat wave in India
When should I change the factory applied paste
Also I have thermal grizzly cryonuat
Hey, I would not advise to replace thermal paste before 3 years, some of the OEM pastes last even longer, clean the heatsinks and the fans and you're good to go. I will definitely make a video in the future on how to do it. 😊
@@TechGuyCharlie Thank you Charlie you are the best
Love from India
Check if you can make the video fast because I already have one
And was worried about shelf life
Charlie I do have a doubt. Did u apply tempered glass for this 23 ultra? I can't find any glass in my area. Please help me finding a right one for my protection.
Hey, I am not using any screen protector on my S23 Ultra, as long as you mishandle your phone, you don't need one, the gorilla glass is strong enough to withstand daily wear and tear.
@@TechGuyCharlie no Charlie it's not the strongest. Mine broke when it fell up from a 1 feet drop height.
Omg, I'm sorry man. Have you checked on amazon? Spigen has one, but its about 3k a bit too expensive.
What if I get a message that says not enough available storage to create a backup file? I cleared some data and then the amount of data that needed to be cleared increased after I cleared some. HELP!!!
What is the cause of Samsung screen failures (lines, green screen of death) when the phone screen itself or the phone has no suffered any physical damage? I've heard it has to to with firmware corruption, but is there any way to resolve it when a factory reset cannot be completed (because that process is also corrupted)? Can S series by flashed if Samsung Knox is present and the fuse has been tripped? I want to install a custom OS like Graphene, but my S10E is Qualcomm version and can no longer boot phone to enable developer options.
Both, my Note 10+ and the S10+ have the 'green screen of death' and it happened randomly, it had nothing to do with the firmware update, it just happened on its own. I guess it is some sort of component-level failure like an SMD capacitor or the flex cable going bad. As for custom firmware, I generally avoid flashing it.
If you have a tabs open on one phone, will the tabs be all open on the other after the installation of the backup?
No, does not work that way! Its not an 1:1 clone! But its very close, however, it will transfer over your browsing history data with your Google account.
Yeah, I did that ... and then it gave me no option to restore from the USB when I had a problem!
TG Charlie Brilliant Go to the Top of the Class.😂😂😂
What about Google authenticator and other secure app like bank apps
It backs up those apps, but without the app data, so you will need to sign in again after restoring, it actually depends on app policy, Microsoft authenticator carries forward the app data while Google authenticator doesn't.
@@TechGuyCharlie is there a way to backup eveything to onedrive (cloud storage) instead of pendrive
I just wish you could add an external drive, especially since they removed the flash card drive.
I wish it was that easy! 🙈
Can we use a USB SSD drive for the same ?
Just tested a 500GB NVMe drive, it works in a NVMe to USB C enclosure.
Can you tell us exactly which usb flash drive you are using and how big storage
Can you it for Samsung to other Android devices .
Hey Babin, its Samsung to Samsung only! For Samsung to other Android, you will need to use Google's backup service, but that doesn't backup everything.
Can you do this with a tablet?
Most likley yes! Samsung tablets and phone share 90% of features.
Does the flash drive have to be completely empty, or does the files that come with the flash drive can stay in it?
It needs to be completely empty!
@@TechGuyCharlie Thanks!
This is what I'm trying to do now is backup. But what if I'm having problems with Samsung acct?! Everytime I try to sign in i get denied. I think its bc I'm using Google's password manager. Everything is all messed up. Please help me!!!!!
Chuck, are multiple backups to the same USB drive seperate or are they jack off over written like Samsung does?
When you do a restore, will the photos / videos have original timestamp or timestamp overwritten with the restore date? Does anyone know?
That is a good question, but I'd say it should keep the original date if it is done with backup and restore as in the video.
I have recently changed phones (Android to Android), I did transfer using Samsung Switch and the new phone has original timestamps.
Can I transfer data from a xiaomi to a OnePlus 😮
Is it safe to wirelessly charge your phone when the USB is plugged in to your phone and the data is transferring?
Yes, should be okay as long the phone doesnt get too hot.
What Is The Maximum Storage Amount Of USB Flash Drive The Note 20 Ultra Can Support ❓
The max i've tested is 512GB USB C drive and it worked just fine.
My phone is 250gig. Is the backup compressed or I need a 250gig flash drive
You can actually check how much storage is in use by going into battery and device care in the settings, just subtract whatever is used up in 'System' I would still say just grab yourself a 256gig drive, they aren't as expensive as they used to be.
Can i transfer from.voice recorder on my phome to a flash drive?
Its super easy, use the file manager to copy the voice recordings to a flash drive. They are stored in a folder called 'Recordings' in the internal Storage.
@@TechGuyCharlie Thank you youre the best!!!
Will this work on another brand Android cell ohone?
Its proprietary, so works only on Samsung.
@@TechGuyCharlie 😥
Trying to do this for pixel 8 pro. I am unable to do this. Please help !!
Its a Samsung only feature.
I actually have a question. Once I have my data from my Galaxy S21 backed up to a flash drive, can I open it using a Macbook, and if so, how?
The data is encryped, so it cant be opened on a computer, but if you want to look at your photos or videos on the Macbook, then you will have to copy them to the usb drive using the file manager on the phone.
How do you safely unmount the USB flash drive.
It's shown in the video!
it doesn't backup everything, there are certain file types it doesn't include, also if you look at the number of photos and videos and also their sizes, you'll see it only backs up some of the photos and videos. Same with Smart Switch PC
is it normal it show me 5 hours to backup everyting my phone will be drain of power before it is done ?????? :((((
