📌IMPORTANT NOTES!
If Rufus doesn't have the "Download" option, simpyl download the Windows 11 ISO file from Microsoft directly and then choose "Select" in Rufus and select the Windows 11 ISO file.
If you don't know how to download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft watch this: czcams.com/video/s29UUK9ITt4/video.html
If you can't keep all of your files and apps during the upgrade, try this!
Open CMD as Admin and run the following command: dism /online /get-intl
Next, have a look at the "Default system UI language" and use that when downloading the ISO file.
Credit to @MikeKranidis down in the comments for this finding!
setup has failed on my Pc ?
No
I couldn't get rufus to recognise VHD
Absolute Crap.
Don't listen to the trolls because it will work for one and not us but as you shown maybe Microsoft blocked it, but still I support your channel. God Blesss you
Very good video. Straight to the point, no redundancy, no long-winded yapping. All CZcams videos should be like this one.
Thanks so much!
Agreed. Very few youtube videos are this straightforward. It's very refreshing.
I have a life.
amen
I tried it on Win 10 PC and it worked with 100 percent success. Thank you for sharing.
So I have just tried this on a 10 year old laptop as proof of concept. It was originally Win8 but has been Win 10 for many years, but did not meet the stupid specs for Win11. My main desktop PC is more powerful but equally does not meet the official specs. It does everything I need so felt no need to upgrade beyond the impending withdrawal of support next year. Windows 11 now up and running on the laptop and all went exactly as per the video! So the desktop will follow!
just to add that when checking the language locale, it was set at EN-GB which is not an option (why do Americans see the world as "America" and "not America"? 🙂) but I selected EN International and had no issues retaining all files and apps
Thanks for your detailed comment, really appreciate it!
How does this work if the laptop did not meet the specs for Win 11 ?
Thanks so much for posting this!! It worked great!
Thank you so much!! I've tried so many of these videos and this is the first that worked! Thank you!
Thanks so much for a very concise and informative guide.
Thank you very much, your instructions really work!!
Awesome! Great to hear!
This was easy to follow and has breathed new life into my Zeon workstation. Thankyou.
Pleasure!
Fantastic video. Never thought of using a VHD instead of a USB drive. Great idea and much faster data transfer. Thanks.
Thanks for your kind comment!
An excellent video, very concise.
Much appreciated!
This video is particularly good. Thanks.
My pleasure!
An excellent, clear and concise video. Well done - keep up the good work.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for your instructions. I had been stymied trying to install win11 on a 9yr old Lenovo laptop for lack of TPM. No such issue with your routine. Breathed some life into an old pc, well, at least i got some additional time before it runs out of support.
You are welcome! Really glad I could help.
very clear ,same said ,concise 5 stars , and thankyou
It worked great thanks...
You're welcome!
Worked perfectly on an old HP Elitedesk 800 G2 mini-PC. Had it setup with a fresh Windows 10 using a local account sign-in. Was expecting the upgrade to force me to sign-in with a Microsoft Account, but to my surprise it kept the local account in place. Great contribution, much appreciated.
Thanks for your great feedback! Appreciate it and have fun with Windows 11.
Thank you so much it worked
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Very helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Work well , Thanks
hi can you guide me my rufus does not shows download option
You need to use the STANDARD version, not the PORTABLE version. Delete the Portable version and all of it's files (the Rufus config file as well) and download the Standard version.
Worked So Smoothly. Thank you. 👍👍👍
You're welcome!
great video.. worked first time thanks 🥳
You're welcome!
Thank you sharing 🎉
You are so welcome
I've been using Rufus and Ventoy for a decent amount of time now and I never once thought to create a virtual drive. I already have tons of rescue images in one USB and I am already on the latest version of Windows, but I learned something new today.
Granted, installing straight from a physical USB is probably faster.. But still. It's nice to know an alternative
Awesome video man :D
Thanks for the great feedback! Yeah look, in IT there are usually tons of different ways to accomplish the same end result, but I wanted to make a video for people who don't have a spare USB flash drive lying around.
I just did this on my four year old desktop, following your exact instructions. I all seems to work fine so far. Thanks a lot, you made it very easy for a noob like me. I did have to download the installation files directly from Microsoft though. but that was no problem.
You're welcome! Glad you could figure it out! 😀
Thank you
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Terrific. I have a couple of computers that are, supposedly, not suitable for upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11. This video is a good tip on how to get around it.
Thanks so much!
Pleasure! Please do me a favor and report back on how it goes!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It is so easy to follow, no waffle and it worked perfectly. My laptop has pretty decent specs (i7, 16GB RAM etc) and I couldn't understand why I wasn't allowed to install Win 11. Problem solved thanks to your video.
You're welcome! Great to hear it worked for you.
thanks Mate...
You're welcome!
Very nice, it works, thank you 🙂
You're welcome!
@@memstechtips oeps, tried on my laptop. Didn't work. When I need to select te language (2:45 in your video) it gave an error message.
Maybe I could use the iso that I used for my desktop?
If not, no problem, I'll get the updates later in time. But it would be nice 🙂
You can also download the Windows 11 ISO file from Microsoft directly. Check the pinned comment.
What an excellent, well made and well annotated video.
Thank you kindly!
What a great video - the flow wa sperfect and the option expalined. Great stuff. Many people [yes many] have Copy and paste issues in 23H2 - are you aware of this issue ?
Thanks for your comment! To be honest, nope, I haven't come across those issues yet.
I don’t have issues with copy and paste here
Serendipity brought me here ☺. I had to click the subscribe!
May I ask you please, as to whether this process will make my Win10, come Win 11 machine functional receiving security patches and updates from Microsoft in the future?
Thank you!!!
Hi there, yes as far as I've seen and used it, the updates still work.
thanks to every one for your help i now have that laptop back working on win 10 great to get so much help many thanks to you all paul
June 2024, done on old Win10 laptop, worked exactly as outlined. Now trying to apply various Windows Updates to see if that still works. Thanks, great video. Other Bypass reqts instructions were way more convoluted. I would suggest anyone doing this also take a System Image and create a Repair Disk on any "production" PC - JUST IN CASE!! Just checking in as Updates are running, I noticed that after Win11 boots, the VUSB folder and VHD Virtual disk are not visible
I took the content of the usb open the iso file erase its content exept for the boot part and put the content of the usb drive and create a new iso, then tested in a vm for fresh install and worked thanks
Glad it worked for you!
Nice to know there is an easy way to do this and I might just try it on a really nice but older laptop that I have spare.👍👍
Try it and lemme know how it goes!
Thank you, very simple and clear. Just one problem with Rufus that was blocked by Windows defender to copy files on virtual disk : I have to deactivate the folder protection.
Thanks for letting me know!
Thanks
Welcome
Brilliant video, very helpful and thankyou. My language choice in powershell is English UK but cannot find it so do I choose English International. Many thanks.
I had the same. Does the International option work without losing any files?
I think it should work perfectly fine!
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. Once installed on a machine with a current supported version of Win 10, will all Win 11 security patches and updates be downloaded?
Yes it will, it's just future major versions that won't be upgraded automatically, you'll have to install it manually again like I show in this video.
great!
I assume using a non supported CPU will leave the system exposed to the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerabilities as this was patched on Windows 10 but not on Windows 11 as the supported CPUs have the hardware changed to eliminate this vulnerability.. Apparently rarely exploited.
wow dope
Danke!
Thank you very much! God bless!
Excellent instructions! Even though my desktop is very advanced the Intel processor is an i7 not on the compatible list. I went ahead and set up the virtual USB drive and downloaded the iso files into the drive per your excellent instructions. I will wait though to install as I'm unclear if Microsoft could make this Windows 11 unworkable in the future. I'm being overly cautious since this desktop is critical to my needs and work.. I did have to download the Windows 11 iso file separately on Microsoft's download page. I kept getting an error message on Rufus saying I could not download as the file wasn't allowed in my country for some strange reason. USA here. Thank you again and I subscribed.
My pleasure and hope you can get it all sorted! For now, I'm not aware of anything that will cause the system to stop working if you upgrade to Windows 11.
@@memstechtips Thanks for your reply. I noticed this morning that my VUSB drive F: which I named WIN11 was no longer there. Not sure why that is. I do remember clicking on setup yesterday but didn't go through the setup. I exited out because I didn't want to install Windows 11 yet. Perhaps that could have triggered it to disappear. There were also Windows 10 updates last night before I went to bed. UPDATE: I just went through your steps again and redid everything. It is back now.
The way i do it is to down load window 11 and copy it to a usb drive then when i put the drive into a machine and then open Command prompt and make sure you run it as Adminstrator then this next bit depends on what your computer tells you the drive letter of the USB, just say its "E" . Now type in the command prompt "e:\setup.exe /product server" then hit enter, you will now install Windows 11 and you dont have to create a Windows account. Using what i have just shown you means you can use the USB drive over and over again.
Thanks, I also know about this method and I have another video on my channel where I use it.
@@memstechtips Which method do you think is the best.
What's wrong with a Microsoft Windows account? I've had one for some years and it works just fine.
@@trainmaster0217 I dont like them having all my information and never had any problems. I started with windows 3.0 all the way upto 11 without ever having an account.
@@BrumKid Then simply change your OS. If Chevy makes a change to their trucks that I don't like I buy a Doge or Ford.
Brilliant! How can do this in win to sdd external, please?
You mean migrating your operating system to an external ssd? New video coming out in about an hour on that.
right click on rufus before opening it and run as administrator to get download option
Brilliant - thanks. I think it's important to say that the Win 11 set up file needs to be run as administrator or it sits in a loop.
Thanks for the tip!
I tried this on an old i5-4690K with Windows 10 on it. It's a machine I generally don't use. The level of Rufus I used was newer and didn't have the download dropdown option for Windows. I down loaded the Windows ISO outside of Rufus. The instructions are otherwise very good. Windows 11 works with the few programs I have installed. Windows upgrade works. I have Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.3593 installed. It's clear that Microsoft really did not have to restrict Windows hardware. However it would not surprise me if Microsoft does something to pull the plug on this working. With more AI hardware in the pipe, I would guess Microsoft will change hardware requirements again. As a side note, StarDock's Multiplicity works.
Thanks for your detailed explanation about your experience. Generally, if you don't have the Download option in Rufus, it's because you downloaded the portable version and not the standard version. Luckily you have advanced computer knowledge and thought to download the ISO file from the MS website and still follow the rest of the guide. Thanks again for sharing!
Simply DL a custom Windows ISO from "windowsXlite" and you'll be happy... (win11 Cobalt v2, Stardock already integrated)
I don't trust custom Windows ISO's.
It works for now but Microsoft could put out an update at any time to disable it so don't get used to it. I tested it on several junk laptops and it works.
Thanks for the feedback!
I tried this method & it worked great! One thing is that the Rufus 4.5 app would not allow me to download the ISO file. Had to do that from the Windows 11 download web site. Once done I pressed select & it took me to my download folder. From there everything worked great. Took several hours to install. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ CPU😊
Thanks for sharing! Glad it worked for you!
I was able to create the virtual drive per your instructions. I downloaded rufus and it found the new virtual drive, but the box to the right on your screen where you can click on "SELECT" or "DOWNLOAD" does not have the arrow to select the download option. The only option is "SELECT" and that does nothing. Any suggestions??? Love your style and clear instructions!
Thanks so much! You sure you downloaded the Standard version of Rufus right? Not the portable version? If yes, try using Version 4.4 of Rufus, not the new 4.5
Hi, thanks for the video. I run a lot of music software. Do you know if licensing services such as iLok see the upgrade to Win 11 as a change of computer, or whether that kind of info is carried over onto the new OS? I will of course clone a C: backup before making any changes, but it would be handy to know. If software perceives the new OS as a different system then I would be into a long job of re authorising stuff.
Hi there, when you upgrade using the method I show in this video it shouldn't see it as a new pc at all. Make the backup of your C: drive just incase, so you can go back. But in my experience, as long as you have the keep all files and apps setting selected, you won't have any issues.
@@memstechtips Thanks for the info, I'll let you know how I get on.
Hi, I actually used a very slightly different process (via another CZcamsr) but the end result was the same. I have Windows 11 installed and updating. None of my precious software licenses were affected. Indeed the only problem was that I lost connection with my Canon printer. That was easily fixed.
Thanks once again.
Hey man, love this tut and the one for the non assisted xml! I followed them to the letter, but during the install process, while rebooting, i kept being thrown into this DOS-like enviroment where it would tell me to press esc to skip some shell command or press any button, nothing worked, except for typing exit and this happened a few times, then installation when through, but when Win 11 opens, its a normal install, and whenever the computer needs to reboot, i get the same shell thing were only EXIT works to continue, any thoughts?
Thanks, glad you like it! Hmm okay that is quite strange, it could be for a number of reasons. Are you installing it on a virtual machine or a computer? Which method did you use to add the xml file to the installation media?
@@memstechtips I know right? I installed it on a computer and i just pasted the xml in the rufus drive, nothing fancy. And i can now confirm, this is now a thing, everytime the computer reboots, it goes in shell and i have to type exit to continue to the OS... :(
Great!!! I’ll just fetch my Laser Turbo XT PC, bought in 1987.
🤣
after downloading win11 so will i get updates or not
i have a lenovo windows ipad after updating sound and touch nolonger works and i was thinking of installing a modded debloated windows since it also lags but it has no usb port maybe the vhd option could be helpful
Hope it helps! You should be able to install those drivers using the Optional Updates in Windows. czcams.com/video/Pw6xZuR_yE8/video.html
Finally! I'll be able to put Win 11 on my 32 bit netbook! Thanks!
Lol, let me know if it actually works.
Yeah, he claims to install on "any PC" :D... what a clickbait title :P
Does windows 11 for 32bit devices even exist?
@@wilbourneftdrakevevos9868 No
@@wilbourneftdrakevevos9868 there was preview version, after release it is not.
Most interesting. I thought MS recent updates on Win11 was trying to kill off any unsupported hardware by executing some CPU instruction that only the newer CPU has. Will try this out soon on some ancient PC.
I don't know I'm running it on 2 different unsupported laptops without any issues.
I was impressed by the video but troubled not to read that anyone followed it successfully.
Not sure why it's not working for people, I've used it tons of times.
Does this method also allow updates after and does it ask for windows keys?
If your current Windows 10 or 11 Installation is activated then it will keep the activation. Yes the updates also work afterwards.
does it support for windows 11home version
My PC at the time of updating didn't meet the requirements for windows 11 but I updated the bios and then it did the CPU passed windows check but no PTM 2.0 within the bios setting so, if you CPU meets the requirements maybe check for a bios update first. because Microsoft have lowered the requirements to TPM 1.2 you could be in Louk with some older CPUs, but the way shown in this video is proven and works.
I really can't be bothered with the system requirements to be honest with you, I just bypass it.
@@memstechtips I understand that fully. I just think there is an option to check with the board manufacturer to see if there’s any bios updates before doing anything else. Plus a bios update can solve numerous problems.
right click before opening rufus and open as administrator to get download option in menu
Thanks for this!
I subbed it’s working in 2024! 😎😎
Thanks!
When I went to powershell the language it gave me was English
(Australia) now I haven't done anything else as I wanted to first find the language which I am glad I did as I thought it might have been the English United States. Now I would like to know before I proceed with the rest of your prompts does it have English Australia as a choice or should I select English International. I don't want to risk anything until I know first. Thank you
I believe English International is actually English (Australia)
I also believe the English Internation version will work for you.
How can this possibly work when windows 11 is not supported on certain processors? If you circumvent the processor test, you will end up with and unstable install if the processor cannot handle the required commands from Windows 11.
I haven't had any issues so far, but then again, I haven't tested it on every single piece of hardware. That's why I show how to go back to Windows 10, for those people who encounter such issues.
But your title said any PC, not just some PC
I understand, but would you have watched it if it said "some pc"?
Hi guys...I use high end recording software, (CuBase) and lots of virtual instruments (miroslav Philharmonic, Addictive Drums etc) when you say it keeps the apps and files do you mean they will just continue as normal once upgraded? I would hate to do this only to have to re install everything again, which, to be fair, is a pain...any advice will be gratefully accepted...many thanks in advance.
If all of those are currently working on Windows 10, it should also work on Windows 11 if you upgrade using this method and keep all of your files and apps.
Great video, thank you. I have successfully upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11 using your instruction, but now I can't start my computer after Win 11 completed latest updates. Could you please advise how to restore my Win 11? Thank you.
You're welcome! What exactly is happening? Is it just stuck on a black screen or what?
Its not so much getting windows 11 its whether you get the updates later to support it, without those it will become insecure or technically obsolete quite quickly
after booting up i get this error ,resample.dll missing from your computer. what to do. i followed the instructions you showed in this video step by step
Gotta be honest I have never come across that before, I don't have any ideas...
I'll stick with W10 as long as possible security-update-wise. I'm not 100% sure on what I'm missing, but W10 is just fine for me.
For now you aren't missing anything, Windows 10 is still supported until October 2025. I hope and pray that they will extend the support and security updates without cost, because people are using Windows 10 a lot more than Windows 11.
It worked BUT the language section only gave 2 choices: English International and Eng-US. I have Eng-AU. That meant I can't keep all my files and Apps. I did the upgrade on another compuer and this time I selected Eng-US even though my system says Eng-AU. Yet the upgrade worked perfectly.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I'm using Windows 10 Home which is pre-installed on my Laptop. If I try out this steps, will I be able to install Windows 10/11 Pro version?
No, you will need to enter a Windows 10 or 11 PRO product key to upgrade your version from Home to Pro.
I for one will keep Windows 10 until forced to upgrade. I tried and DO NOT LIKE Windows 11. I'm already using Linux on a 15 year old laptop...will go Linux!
Great . what about if ;y disk is MBR not gpt
Should still work fine.
I did all this and during the Windows install it still said this PC doesn’t meet the requirements for 11.
If the hardware isn't compatible, will it be able to accept updates and patches going forward?
Yes normal updates will work, but you need to follow the same process as in this video to upgrade to new major versions. for example from 23H2 -> 24H2.
Does this circumvent the TPM, or BIOS secure boot requirement?
Yes, Rufus removes all that.
Only until windows runs a major update that rechecks if you have it, but it's not an issue if you have all your docs on at least two external devices as regular backup
I had no arrow on Rufus on the select button. I will download the iso file and see if I can do it that way
Yeah you can download the ISO from MS then just select it in Rufus.
I have already installed Windows 11 21H2 in my laptop. So if I install the new version, which is 20 3H2 then all the files will be deleted or not?. which ever is in the download folder is deleted or not can you please reply? Thanks.
If you watch the video, I show how to check your current installation's language settings, you need to select the correct language to keep all of your files and apps. During the Windows 11 Setup it will show to Keep All Files & Apps. It's all explained in the video.
Actually watch the video. All of your question is answered.
what is gonna happen to already installed files and software in windows 10 not the Microsoft apps but the other software such as pyhton matlab and etc? and the settgins in other apps? are they gonna be reset?
As long as you have "Keep all files and apps" selected, everything will be kept exactly as it is on your Windows 10 install.
this video help me install win11 23H2 67%, because it:s stop there, took me one hour to find out why, now all my 5 pc, are running 23H2, with old app like office, Thanks!
Pleasure!
I didn't understand the part that one should use the installation version of Rufus and not the portable version. Why? Is it not supposed to do exactly the same thing both versions? Tks for the info.
The portable version doesn't support the download of the Windows ISO, that's the only reason.
@@memstechtips I have tested this situation, the portable version works too if the following lines are appended at the rufus.ini file - UpdateCheckInterval = 86400
ShowAdvancedFormatOptions = 1
ShowAdvancedDriveProperties = 1
I suspect that both versions are almost identical, they have the same file size, they are both not registered in windows registration files.
@@agostinhomatos321 Thanks for letting me know!
At the important part, I never got the popup box to check all the boxes in the windows user experience custom installation, hence I eventually get the failure to meet requirements roadblock
is this possibly because i am trying to update from win10 home
I'll probably try this with my laptop this weekend with an unsupported cpu (intel i7 6700hq)

It should definitely still work.

Strange, I just downloaded v4.5 and it did indeed prompt me for the Customized User Experience, not sure why it didn't for you.
Can i upgrade from windows 11 lite and and keep this settings .
I don't think that will work.
So I have WIN 10; however I have read that Microsoft with discontinue updates and I think support for WIN 10 in September 2025. I have run the system check to see if I can update to WIN 11 but Microsoft tells me my computer will not run WIN 11. Are you saying that I CAN install WIN 11 and will it run properly? My PC was built in 2019.
I got as far as the actual installation of Win 11 but it has stopped at 31% for about 3hrs now.... its a Lenovo with AMD A6 processor. If I cancel the install, will it undo Win 11?
It should just undo the changes yeah, let me know if it works.
My Rufus doesn't show the arrow to change from select to download, what do I do?

In my case i don't have the option to save my apps. I can only save my files
That means you selected the wrong language when downloading the ISO file. Run the Powershell Command again to see your installed language and then redownload the ISO file and select that language. If you have any other English version other than United States, then you need to select English International when downloading the ISO file.
downloading already blocked by MS, first i have downloaded in english language as per system, but once i'm on the process of installing it will delete all the apps. hence its not english language. could be international but the second attempt to download that the time it was blocked.
That's strange, it shouldn't be blocked. You can also use a free VPN temporarily to download the ISO again. czcams.com/video/nIH3csZDbeQ/video.html
Can you change the boot Disk from USB to DVD
No I don't think so
