  • Waco Surf finally opened public access to the Ramp and Wedge artificial waves in their new 90 minute "Pro Sessions."
In the pro session, you get 12 waves total:
    - 4 Point Waves (starting at 2:30)
    - 4 Ramps (starting at 4:40)
    - 4 Wedges (Starting 6:50)
We live in a science fiction world where we can produce liquid shapes on command, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to try out this amazing technology.

Here's my advice for people who are going to the Waco Wavepool aka. Waco Surf:
-The pro session costs a whopping $350 just for starters (before board rentals or board insurance ) - That comes down to $30 for one wave at an absolute minimum. For the same price you can find cheap round trip flight tickets to an affordable surf destination (ex. Central America), which would provide way more time surfing and probably more access to waves... With that being said, the wave pool is an amazing novelty and something I think every dedicated surfer should try to experience at least once.
-It is hard to find available time slots. Book well ahead in advance.
-I would recommend bringing your own boards. The combination of surfing on a new board + calibrating your surfing to the weirdly moving waves is a big challenge from the start.
-The staff that works here are awesome and very friendly people. Get to know them and ask for their advice and they will help you a lot.
-The private sessions might still be better in terms of wave quality than the "pro sessions." I strongly suspect the power is reduced on the air wave and especially the wedge, to reduce the shallowness and risk of injury to the greater public.
    Pointbreak:
-The wave itself is not very large and surfing it feels very "cramped for space." so try to surf in the pocket. The shoulder lacks almost any energy. Therefore and it is much better for quick consecutive snaps, rather than carves or cutbacks. Tricky adjustment for people who prefer rail-to-rail.
    Air:
Don't be fooled by the videos even though the ramp is borderline perfect, it will not magically allow you to land airs. For example - my session had plenty of good surfers. None of them landed any airs. Only one guy was very good, and even he only landed one quality air.
    - If you had a bunch of cash to drop on the wave pool it would be the most fun thing ever and you could progress your air game extremely fast. (But once again- for an entire weekends worth of sessions here- you could take that same amount of money and surf good waves at an affordable surf destination for several weeks.)
    Wedge:
    - Try to go on the very first wedge wave of the session. The pool has had more time to settle, and will produce a thicker, more open barrel than the following waves (6:50)
-The barrel lasts for literally 1 - 2 seconds max. Don't out run it.
-If you take out a GoPro, don't forget to tilt the camera up 🥲
    Cheers!
