And the hard part and what I'm looking for a good video to learn, is how to single-handedly replace the door.

HI Chris. I started using both the Spring Tool nail set and hinge pin removal about 2 years ago. At first I thought they were great. I'm still using the nail set. However the hinge pin removal tool proved to have two serious problems. After a couple close calls we dumped it. The amount of pressure that ejects the pin can easily cause the user or his employee to be struck in the face or eye by a flying pin when ejected with too much force. It takes a different amount of force to eject each pin so this is unpredictable. We tried starting softly and increasing the pressure but sometimes the pins just flew out anyway. the most dangerous is the lowest pin as you are usually crouching so keep your head back! That wasn't the worst problem. The hardened steel rod (about 1" long) on top of the tool that actually smacks the pin can instantly snap off. When that thing breaks it shoots out randomly like a bullet. I replaced a couple tools thinking I just had a lemon. After some close calls that was the end of the hinge tool! Still like the nail sets though.

Your crew is then fortunate. The torque required to jar a pin loose can be minor or excessive. In the case of setting a high nail into spruce or fir it's minor so the spring tension, quality and the shape of the hammer in the nail set tool is reliable. In the case of removing stuck metal pins from heavily door weighted hinges the force required can be excessive. Painters know this can be difficult to release even with a hammer and a hardened nail set. It's great your crew has had no problems! Recently I was invited to join another contractor on a $25M SFH build. I noticed he had the nail set and I asked him about the hinge tool. He laughed . It's all fun till someone loses an eye! ;) We can see both tools at this Spring Tools link www.google.ca/search?q=spring+tools+images&biw=1920&bih=887&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0CBsQsARqFQoTCKLvvvqtjMgCFRFPkgodB7cLDA#imgrc=c2ZEy6lgxPNbPM%3A Why not let your audience decide?

Great tutorial. My parents took my door because they think I'm drinking everytime I spend too long in the bathroom (in reality I definitely have a stomache problem but I dont want to get a surgery or go on a diet so I don't tell them) so Im going to steal their door and put it back in my room. Thank you Mr. Idaho Painter

For security reasons It is 100% impossible to remove my front and back door hinges because i made it so there is no access to the knuckle to bump the pins out, and they are in groups of 3 stacked together so the pins are obstructed anyway.

hi Chris, was wondering what your opinion is on in interior walls, latex over oil primer. To me its unnecessary since good high quality latex primers do the job. why use oil inside and deal with the smell/VOCs. Do you agree?

instead of bearing grease, you can use a dry lubricant, they are wax based and often have teflon/ptfe in them. the dry lube does not attract dirt like the wet lubricants like (oil and grease). the dry lube also works well on bearings in fishing reels and padlocks that are out in the weather. the dry lube goes on as a liquid but that is just a carrier agent for the actual lube.
to use the dry lube, remember to shake the bottle to stir, take one pin out and drip the dry lube onto the pin, then drip some into the hole for the pin. then reinsert the pin. do one pin at a time and you dont have to take the door down to do them all
Here is a link to one that I use:

Paint Life TV I can’t find any videos that explain how to get this one out when it’s so close to the ground, the only thing I could find is a door hinge, pin, tool. But none of my local shops have them.

My front door won't come open even though I removed the hinge pins and kicked it from the outside. It won't budge. I can't unlock it and the previous occupants locked it on purpose. It's over 100 years old. 😠

So buy a new tool just to remove the door once. Because a punch is too complicated. Got it ...

  • @killakidcc-centerprises3566

You didnt use the tool correcttly. Not enough force when it slams down it should eject the hinge quite forcefully watch lockpickinglawyers video

How convenient that you don’t actually show the bottom door pin being removed. Bcan’t It can not be done so easily. Or at all, Not possible to hit the pin with a hammer when it’s only an inch or two above the floor.
    Not helpful.
    15 thumbs down!
