Mario takes actual skill, and the ability to adapt and adjust to situations on the fly. Kazyua gets you in a cutscene and does the same identical button inputs that result in an instant stock if he doesn't screw up.
@@FreakinSweet1987every character takes skill to play. and i'm saying this as a new player... i could go into quick play right now as an S Tier character and still get absolutely slaughtered.
@@mokl27 As a competitive player with a few thousand hours myself, I understand and agree with that. But when it comes to Kazuya, he's one of, if not the only character where a simple combination of button presses results in a 0-death every single time with zero variation. The only time this isn't the case is when the read the DI improperly or drop the combo from making a mistake. No other character can do this with such a guarantee.
@@FreakinSweet1987 I played some kazuya the other day though and you have to get the grabs and the down special without being interrupted in the first place. I don't really have the game awareness yet to know when to do a grab or a down special so whenever I do it I get punished most of the time ><

@@mokl27 Oh for sure, I'm always happy to talk about Smash. I never understand why people get to hostile over a conversation about video games, lol.
But as for Kazuya, his weakness is definitely getting in on people. His speed is lousy unless you can use his specific movement abilities to your advantage. I play Sora and Sephiroth a lot, and he struggles getting in with both of them. But once he does, they're basically dead unless he decides otherwise.
So while he's definitely got some detrimental features, he kind of makes up for it with his guaranteed K.O. potential. Unlike other characters with massive downsides, like Little Mac for example, who still need to utilize what's going on in that moment in order to find their openings and improvise on the fly in some capacity.
Imagine kurama not throwing away a stock for a failed spike in game 3. Just imagine.
Props to Kurama making Mario look like he's on the same tier as Kazuya

I’ve never seen more “even play” in my whole life. I mean truly going back and forth on each other. Could never count either one of them out.
This was one of my favorite sets ever and I love the non commentary on matches this good it really does make it so much better imo

I can't believe Kurama threw g3 so hard. Mistake after mistake, from SD to fsmash whiffs. Holy moly that was frustrating, especially since he had such a strong lead, then throws two stocks in a row.
edit: and he is clearly tilted in g4, you can see him not going for smart reads that he pulled off in g1 without a problem.
Yeah, I don't blame him for getting tilted. He's clearly outplaying Riddles but losing anyway. Kazuya is bull crap. Shouldn't be allowed in competitive play. Risk-reward ratio is way out of wack
@@jeffersonian4 While he was outplaying riddles he did sd and whiffed alot which is why he lost. Also only 1 kazuya actually gets wins and that's riddles.
@@charles_6592 Last year, Riddles stopped grinding Smash for a bit to grind Street Fighter and nobody talked about the character again up until he fully came back. It baffles me how some people sugarcoat their biases with “competitive speak” instead of just saying “I hate Kazuya”.
@@farewell418 Lol, so much cope. Something that has always plagued the smash community is unwillingness to change. Competitive play (and spectatorship) would be greatly improved with a few bans.
I'm looking forward to Rivals 2--We might finally get a game that is competitive AND not full of top-tier BS (well, we did get that with Melee, but IMO Melee eventually became stale)

Despite Kurama never winning a major yet I still think he's in the top 5 greatest Ultimate players of all time. Certainly my favorite.

Forgive my ignorance, but why doesnt kurama string an UP+B from an uair when kazuya is near the ceiling at +100%? Surely it kills and is true
Up-B can be heavily DI’d I think, and down-air has just as much knockback (if not more) at that percent and can’t be DI’d as much

Knew the outcome before clicking on the video. Riddles will gain my respect when he plays a character that isn't broken. Sincerely hope they don't push pay to win characters next game they make.

Each player spams and mashes their best moves, then link into cookie cutter combos that produce no interesting gameplay.
Watching Kazuya EWGF or Mario UAir half a dozen times in neutral is about as interesting as watching two people play Rock Paper Scissors with no fingers.

@@matthewpipes018 Its cus Kazuya like a lot of other DLC characters have a lot of DLC privilege, its definitely not as bad as someone like Steve, but its there, granted I don't think necessarily think Kurama is a better player but there are definitely instances in this set that just scream DLC privilege

Kurama is such a superior player. It’s a shame he’s still got some issue with the mental game - he throws a lot of big leads and gets tilted quite a bit and plays hectic. Game 3-4 is a perfect example. my favorite player to watch, but it frustrates me sometimes rooting for the kid.
