    The way you have it hooked up makes it really easy if you need to cut off a tank from the shared system for service, quarantine, or housing fish with different water parameters.

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Just drill the tanks and do a slow drip system from the sump and let the canister filter the sump
      Super easy

    Nice dry fit! Is PVC glue toxic to fish? Used to do sprinkler systems and the glue we used was harsh.

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Non toxic once it’s cured- but there are lots of different glues so I’m sure there would be some toxic ones.

  • @thedampestcrib6004

    I feel like the long sump tanks aren't as affective I'm going to attempt a stacked tank so 2 or 3 tanks with screen on top layer then filter elements in bottom of top 2 tanks sump in bottom. So the water trickles down thru filter clean water pumps back from bottom tank

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Anything will work
      I’m only using the long tank to hold water
      The filters are in the individual tanks in this system

    • @thedampestcrib6004
      @thedampestcrib6004 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @paulstingray now is this the best way to keep sediment down? I run sponge filter that does nothing for larger heavy stuff

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před 8 měsíci

      This system is to raise fry so there’s no issue with sediment

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před 8 měsíci +1

      But you could just increase flow to move any sediment into the sump. My bigger tanks on the big systems work that way and there’s never any buildup on the bottom of the tanks and they are 9’ x 4’ with a lot of big fish.

    Would it be possible to design some sort of fitting with a hose for the intakes. So you could put the hose on and vacuum the bottom with it so It cleans right into the sump drainage pipes/ sump. Since the intakes are so high up and won’t clean all the crud that forms on the bottoms of the tank

    • @paulstingray

      This system is designed to grow up smaller fry so that’s not an issue.

      Yes. But the tanks can be disconnected from the system and treated if need be.

    this fish room sound like 10 waterfalls going on in there...if my sump even made a drip noise I'd go insane let alone 30 or 40 tanks...
    what's the point of the sponge filters?
    if you're using battery power wouldn't it be easier to just use 2 pumps in case 1 fails?
    and then comes the big question...how do you intend on breeding fish with this system without them going from tank to sump through the overflows and killed by the pump..
    one of the major issues I see with fish rooms are bad designs...and people using breeder boxes on top of the tanks because the fry would die to filtration
    if your rack system makes noise..it's a bad design...if you cannot use that system to breed fry or shrimp...it's a bad design
    on your current design...my suggestion would be to use a sponge pad to partition the overflow from the main tank similar to a matten filter
    the tallest overflow on one side of the rack...the drain pipe air tight downwards to the last tank (extra hole in it)
    the top overflow of the last tank put an upside down V trap on it and drill a hole in the middle of the V trap to let air escape and pipe to be able to adjust the height of the trap in the tank
    put the drain pipe of that tank into a tank of a lower rack or inside the sump a few inches under water
    when the system starts it'll make noise just like yours but once the water goes higher than the trap the air is gone and it creates a siphon by itself
    this will allow you to filter all the tanks with 0 noise...if you need bubbles for oxygenation you can connect an inline co2 diffuser to the return pipe...
    on the 1/4 co2 intake of the diffuser you just put a check valve and enough tubing to hang it somewhere higher than the top tank this way you don't need an air pump for it and it'll pull air and squish it down into fine bubbles for oxygenation
    as for the idea of being able to have a tank drained or separate in the rack...on the downwards drain pipe put a pvc ball valve for each tank...this way you can just close the valve
    and maintain the air-tight seal/siphon and take that tank away...replace it...do some work on it...and the system would still be running fine
    I hope you fix this because there's nothing more annoying than having to shout in a fish room because of all the noise
    Keep up the work xD

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před rokem +2

      I’m fine with the noise as I’m not in there very often. The sponge filters are the filtration, not the sump.
      The idea of the sponge filters is the fact I can turn the tanks off to raise the fry without them going though the overflow. When they are big enough I can just put that tank back on the system.
      I have five large battery pumps going in the room.

    • @TiredOfY
      @TiredOfY Před rokem

      doesn't manual water changes defeat the whole purpose of a rack system?
      I thought the sponge filters were being used as a secondary backup...
      so they're used as filtration when fry are being raised together with manual water changes?
      back on my original post...
      "if your rack system makes noise..it's a bad design...if you cannot use that system to breed fry or shrimp...it's a bad design"

    • @paulstingray
      @paulstingray  Před rokem +1

      The system works just fine. And I have too many fish breeding currently.
      Hopefully one day you will be ok with noise.
