MJ Corner: Introducing my Wife to Michael Jackson - "Scream" REACTION!

  • "Scream" is the lead single from Michael Jackson's ninth studio album, HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (1995). It is a duet with his younger sister Janet,[1] and was released as a double A-side with "Childhood", a solo song by Michael. The single was released on May 29, 1995.
    "Scream" is an aggressive, retaliatory song directed at the tabloid media and their coverage of the child sexual abuse accusations made against Michael Jackson in 1993. It was written, composed and produced by Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson; Michael played many of the instruments. It incorporates elements of pop, R&B, electrorock, dance-pop, and funk. Recording for Scream took place at the Hit Factory in New York City in October 1994 and at Flyte Tyme Studios in Edina, Minnesota in December 1994. The song was leaked to radio stations early, despite Epic Records' attempt to keep it off air until the release date.
    Generally well received amongst critics, it has been compared favorably to other songs by Michael Jackson. The corresponding music video remains one of his most critically acclaimed; it won three MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Award for Best Music Video. At a cost of $7 million, it was listed in the Guinness World Records as the most expensive music video ever made; however, director Mark Romanek has refuted the claim, saying that there were two other music videos from the same era which cost "millions more" than the video for "Scream".
    "Scream" would become the first single in the 37-year history of Billboard to debut at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked. Elsewhere, it topped the charts in Italy, New Zealand, and Spain while reaching the top five in Australia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Michael performed "Scream" on his 1996-1997 HIStory World Tour. Following his death in 2009, Janet performed the song at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and on her 2011 Number Ones, Up Close and Personal as a tribute to him, the 2015-2016 Unbreakable World Tour, and on several dates of her 2017-2018 State of the World Tour.

    Fun fact: As you noticed the anime in the background, MJ was a huge fan of comic books and films. He even considered and made an attempt to buy Marvel at one point along with Stan Lee. MJ also wanted to produce a spider man movie in the early 1990s and play spider man himself. Michael had a huge passion for movies, and wanted to direct himself, which was his next big project after The Is It tour when he passed away in 2009.

    • @honey.brown.nerdrealm
      @honey.brown.nerdrealm  Před 2 lety +3

      I could totally see MJ doing that. He never had a childhood himself and never experienced going to the movies with friends. So, when he built a theater on his ranch, he was able to live that life that was never given to him as a child. Even with his music videos you can see his vision and his immense imagination shine through!
      Man, the "This Is It" tour felt like such a comeback and resurgence for MJ. And we all never got to witness it. To see another artistic side come from him.

  • @lightbringer543
    @lightbringer543 Před 2 lety +9

    Yeah!!! Honey stopped the video to comment at the start of the music video, I like it when she takes charge, haha :-) And she also clenched her fist towards the crescendo of the song, she was feeling it! The MJ community is very loving, a true reflection if MJs spirit. But we can also quickly snap into anger when confronted with the same nonsense rumors and lies MJ had to suffer from all the time. We´ve also been humiliated and attacked, for simply being Michael Jackson fans, and that has taken its toll on us. In that way it was very satisfying to hear MJ release his inner rage and channel it into a top chart song while ejecting the finger to all his nay-sayers! Still today I play it real loud on the regular to cleanse myself of anger! Behind MJs softspoken side there was a true savage! Despite all he had to go through he remained the same nice, polite, respectful and positive person towards others, thats one of his most impressive feats, how he was still able to have a positive mindset is truly remarkable!

    • @honey.brown.nerdrealm
      @honey.brown.nerdrealm  Před 2 lety +2

      Haha! Thank you so much! This song brought out her rage... in a good way! These MJ songs are definitely giving her more confidence just in general. That's the power of MJ!
      Yeah, I agree. MJ at his core was such a gentle soul. But, this album brought out his fighting spirit. This was empowered MJ!!! The paparazzi brought this out of him. Yet, that never stopped him from still wanting to change the world for the better and helping those in need. He was the best of us!

    Man, I forgot to say this last time, but what I REALLY love about your reactions is how you put the songs in context/perspective of when they came out. Something that I think really important with all music, but especially with someone like MJ and especially with something like HIStory. I've seen so many reactions just listen to this song and say; ''O, MJ mad or something?'' or even some saying like: ''MJ still talking about the media?'', without realizing how awful it was back around that time. So I love that, and of course, I love the honest and raw reactions from your wife (or you, if you're the one reading this 🙂). I really can't wait for more MJ reactions, and I hope Sony isn't gonna go and strike them down. I've seen so many reaction channels that stopped reacting to MJ because of that.
    O and also the fact that Janet was in this song (besides sticking up her big brother), was because she also was affected by what was happening to MJ. She was also huge at the time and lost huge deals because of her being the sister of MJ. She talks about this in her documentary that came out a couple of months ago.

    Because you mentioned the shot of him meditating… did you notice when he screams, and the glass ceiling above him breaks? Michael shattering the glass ceiling. Genius. Also, the little chant bit, ‘oh my God can’t believe what I saw…’ If you listen very carefully there’s a police report you can hear, which the reporter on the big screen in the background reads… ‘a man was beaten to death by police today after being wrongly identified as a robbery suspect… the man was an 18year old black male’ 🤯 the man was way, way ahead of his time

    I know in the scream video reactions it is typical to just dismiss Janet's artistry aside but may I remind you, at that time when Michael's publicity and celebrity was threatened harshly, Janet was one of the biggest superstars of at that time signing the biggest deal of any artist back then. Great reaction guys, love this MJ trip you have departed on! You really should check out Dirty Diana, as some have suggested before. Or maybe Give in to me, another underrated rock tune of his. Or do one for the ladies, and check out Come together ;) Man, there are sooo many good song I could suggest but I'll leave it with this for now :) Cheers

    Ok guys the reaction was cute but Janet was in the video as well. Janet was actually a bigger artist when they made this video. Janet became the Highest Paid Singer Of All Time when this video was filmed. She re-signed with Virgin Records for a whopping $80 million dollars. She had broken a lot of records with her albums "Control", "Rhythm Nation" and "janet." She actually broke some of Michael's records. People forget Janet is inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame just like her brother. Oh and finally you both said Janet was keeping up with Michael. That statement because Janet has been named the best Female Dance Artist of All Time. When you think of Female Dancers you think of Janet first. So many of these newer female artists have named Janet as their biggest inspiration. I can name a few: Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Ciara, Britney Spears, Normani, Doja Cat, Tinashe, and Paula Abdul. Janet is the Female Blueprint! React to a few of her videos. Here are some of her Iconic creations: Rhythm Nation, If, The Pleasure Principle, That's The Way Love Goes, Nasty, Again, I Get So Lonely, Miss You Much, All For You, and Made For Now. I could give you so many more because she has so many hits. Give it a try and get to know "Janet miss Jackson if you Nasty." That's one of her famous quotes by the way.

      Janet is a talented beyond words. I completely agree. And we definitely should've focused some of our admiration for her! Just growing up, MJ was the foundation to my musical taste and MJ was played throughout my childhood. I was never well-versed in Janet Jackson. But, she is definitely an icon as well! The whole Jackson family is filled with talent. A legendary music family!
      We'll definitely react to some Janet Jackson in the future. Thank you for the recommendation and educating us on her! Much appreciation 🙏👌

      No disrespect to Janet or her talent intended, but please let us discuss in concrete facts not perceptions. Please cite at which point in time and in which category or categories was Janet ever a bigger artist than Michael. It surely cannot be sales figures or cultural impact? Just so you are aware, signing a record deal for whatever amount does not make you " the highest paid singer" by any stretch. Janet only finally made it in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 (the Jackson 5 had been there since 1997 and Michael had been inducted since 2001/2 as a solo artist). Also, please cite the official source for the assertion that Janet "has been named the best female dance artist of all time". By whom exactly and when? Again in the realm of facts, it is Michael and Michael alone who has been inducted into the Dance Hall of Fame - the first (and to my knowledge, only) dancer from the world of Pop/ Rock& Roll to receive such an accolade. Yes Janet was insanely popular in the US in particular at one point in time, but she was neh-vuh seein' Michael in any category at any time - let's not re-write history while inhaling stan fumes. It is incorrect that Paula Abdul has ever named Janet as her biggest dance inspiration. Paula in fact taught Janet how to dance. That is all.

      @@rickyshaw5012 Damn! You be spittin' facts here! 💯
      Janet has her merits, but is nowhere near the level or even stratosphere as Michael Jackson. Not taking anything away from her. But, Michael was on a whole other universe compared to Janet. The whole Jackson family was very talented, but Michael was just in his own world

    • @RodneyakaBlue

      @@rickyshaw5012 you sound like a complete fool. Bitch you said Paula Abdul taught Janet how to dance. I'm gone and have nothing else to say except check out this little show called "Fame" and even before that The Jackson Variety show where Janet was singing and dancing as a kid. So miss me with that Paula Abdul bullshit. Janet put that bitch on. That statement alone let's me know that you don't know shit. Give Billboard a call and ask them about Janet's stats and Number 1 hits. Sounds like are giving stan fumes. Since you are such a stan where is Michael now? Yeah that's what I thought! Also out of all the women that has named Janet as an influence you defend Paula Abdul of all people. You are a joke sir. Like I stated Janet made Paula hot. Since we are on Choreographers I guess Jeffrey Daniel and Travis Payne taught Michael how to dance? See how that sounds like a dumb bitch. Anyone who knows anything about dance know Michael and Janet are the blueprint for Males and Females and both started dancing at a very young age. Oh and you said Michael was the only pop artist to be inducted into the Dance Hall Of Fame where did you get that stat sir because it is nowhere to be seen, and of all things you bring up the Dance Hall Of Fame. Who gives a shit about that what we care about is the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in which Janet is there. You say she just got in and yes it was 2019, but let's talk about how she got in before a lot of people that have have been out way longer than her example Diana Ross, Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, and let's not forget Tina Turner in 2021 as a Solo Artist. She got in before Whitney, Mariah, and Celine Dion. So miss me with your bullshit antics sir. You stan for Michael, but let's not forget his bad press matches the good he as done example That little Child Molestation Case that he paid off and being taken out from an overdose of lethal drugs. Hate to mention that but your all great Michael Jackson ended in tragedy! Just saying!!!
