MJ Corner: Michael Jackson - "Jam: Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour 1992" REACTION!!!
"Jam" is a single by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson. The song is the fourth single from his 1991 album Dangerous, where it is the opening track. It also appears as the second track on his 2009 This Is It compilation album. The single was re-released in 2006 as part of Jackson's Visionary: The Video Singles collection campaign, and it was remixed to the Cirque du Soleil's Immortal World Tour, releasing that remix on the soundtrack album. "Jam" is a new jack swing song whose bridge features a rap verse performed by Heavy D (of the group Heavy D & the Boyz), though no credit to him appears on the album. The music video of the song featured NBA basketball legend Michael Jordan. The song was also featured on the Chicago Bulls (Jordan's team at the time)'s 1992 NBA Championship video "Untouchabulls" and was also used in many promotional ads of the NBA in the said season. The single peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song re-entered the UK Singles Chart in 2006, reaching number 22.
"Jam" was generally well received by music critics. Chris Lacy from Albumism said that on the song, Jackson "explains that jamming (the joy of music and dance) is his preferred method of temporarily escaping worldly issues." AllMusic editor Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that there's a lot to be said for professional craftsmanship at its peak and he called this song blistering plus highlight on album. Larry Flick from Billboard stated that it "is fortified with brassy horns, a funky bass line, and a rap cameo by Heavy D. Jackson's signature squeals and whoops are at home within an urgent groove that seems to goad him to the point of catharsis." Music & Media commented, "Get in the groove with the most funky track on the Dangerous album." People Magazine said that Jackson "captures the outer style but not the energizing spirit of hip-hop." Alan Light from Rolling Stone praised the song, adding that it "addresses Jackson's uneasy relationship to the world and reveals a canny self-awareness that carries the strongest message on Dangerous. "Jam" features a dense, swirling Riley track, propelled by horn samples and a subtle scratch effect, and includes a fleet rap by Riley favorite Heavy D. Though it initially sounds like a simple, funky dance vehicle, Jackson's voice bites into each phrase with a desperation that urges us to look deeper. He is singing as "false prophets cry of doom" and exhorts us to "live each day like it's the last." The chorus declares that the miseries of the world "ain't too much stuff" to stop us from jamming. To Jackson, who insists that he comes truly alive only onstage, the ability to "Jam" is the sole means to find "peace within myself," and this hope rings more sincere than the childlike wishes found in the ballads." Adam Gilham of Sputnikmusic described the song as a perfect album opener and rated it "5/5".

    The beginning jump of this performance by MJ is called a “Toaster Jump” which MJ pioneered! Also if you would want to define the term "Crowd Control" this performance is 100% it, MJ had the entire stadium in the palm of his hands and mind you this is only the first song to start the concert but before MJ even begins to perform the crow is going so ballistic you can cut the air with a knife!🫡👑🐐🌟 (Yesss! Finally it uploaded I was afraid we'd never get to see this performance/reaction and to answer your question, MJ from the 90's is where he completely I'm talking in all aspects of him as an musician. So it will most definitely be MJ from the 90's who would win in an dance battle vs MJ from the 80's. Now singing battle it'll probably be a different story idk. MJ from 80's & 90's will be close but MJ as a vocalist in the 80's was a BEAST!!!! But remember the man's career spanned for 5 decades 60's,70's,80's,90's,00's MJ was built different. Btw just to give you both clarity/information on the MJ & Quincy Jones timeline. You legit can trace the MJ x Quincy Jones sound back to the Jacksons 1978 "Destiny" album. Quincy Jones helped progress and polish that sound MJ was already excelling at. Along with that Quincy Jones (along with Rod Temperton) taught and mentored Michael everything they knew about songwriting, arranging, and producing. As a result MJ carried this knowledge in with him when leading the Jacksons with the 1980 album "Triumph" also known as the true follow up to MJ's 1979 album "Off the Wall". Quincy saw and heard Triumph and even took heavy cues from MJ’s genius genre-bending record "Heartbreak Hotel" with The Dude. MJ and Quincy continued to work close with each other to create the Pop opus MJ's 1982 album "Thriller" which I would argue much of the album’s flaws/imperfections can be traced back to Quincy. Listen to the original "The Girl Is Mine" compared to the final/released version and you’ll see what I’m talking about. But by the time of MJ's 1987 "BAD" album/Era Quincy’s involvement had lessened and most of the songs on the BAD album had been done with Quincy Jones and Bruce Swedien really only plodding. Quincy led no more than 2 out of the 11 songs on BAD. Then after BAD that was it for the dynamic-duo. Quincy was getting older and losing his fire while MJ continued to grow and expand artistically.)

    • @honey.brown.nerdrealm
      @honey.brown.nerdrealm Před 7 dny

      My man! Always dropping the knowledge! The history of Quincy Jones and MJ is something prolific. Something that will forever live on. So, when MJ went out on his own... MJ had a lot to prove. Choosing producers and songwriters to work alongside him truly showed that MJ had other potential talent that he couldn't really dive deep with Quincy. Quincy was definitely a mentor to MJ. But, in order to fully become a legend, you must step away and find yourself in this world on your own potential and talent. And MJ definitely showed the world!

  • @monicamargothespinozamonda509

    Oh, no puedo creer que no vieran el inicio de la presentación cuando Michael salta al escenario es cónica, se queda parado frente al público, igual que en el súper tazón, vean el comienzo. Este concierto es una brutalidad, como todos los conciertos de Michael. Dangerous es mi era favorita de Michael, donde se nota una madurez y solidez musical, es un disco más fluido, y sin la influencia de Quincy Jhons, Michael comenzó a trabajar con otros productores haciendo nuevos estilos y desarrollando n sello propio y muy adelantado a su época. Podrían ver este concierto completo, se los recomiendo. Fue con esta jira qué Michael vino a mi pais(chile) en el año 1993, y fue la única vez que vino.

    Hi Honey & Brown. How are you and little Moonwalker? You guys - this video is awesome. 👏👏 I'm sooooo glad the video is up now and I am just enjoying watching your reactions so much - its so refreshing how much younger viewers (I'm from long time ago guys - J5 era) are impacted when first experiencing MJ live. Honey, after you see his energy on stage I am pretty sure you will love to hear the song "Jam" again and imagine the performance 😍😍 - Guys this was the first song performed on the Dangerous Tour concerts and I really hoped you would include the opening before Jam starts. He appears with so much celebration 🎆🎆 literally jumping onto the stage - the reaction of the audience is just phenomenal - the faints already start there. Michael had medical tents at his concerts to care for the fans. Bucharest performance is also a fav for me but the official performance video shows a lot of the fans in the audience because there is so much reaction and unfortunately you miss some of MJ's dancing closeups -- But watch again and again - you won't tire of his energy. Wow thanks so much for showing my comment to Smooth Criminal from Bad Tour Wembley in your video 🥰🥰- If you get a chance please check out this Jam live mix at czcams.com/video/IjX448LzZWw/video.htmlsi=lAN3of-QgTU5HlZe - it was posted for a while on my channel after my friend @BehindTheMaskMJ lost his former YT channel- I helped him with editing - the video is an extended mix of Jam performances at several concerts throughout the Tour with some of the official video mixed in - also clips from the "Space Jam" movie for added fun -- Its 9 min. long - I'm certain you won't be disappointed🏀🏀 Thanks again Honey and Brown for an awesome reaction video. To answer your question - I get that you are feeling Dangerous more than Bad Tour Michael - but please watch the rest of the live Wembley concert-- I promise you the "beast" is there too!! - please do Dirty Diana from Wembley - I asked for it previously - and you will see. I don't think for me there is a dance off winner - because to me Michael's energy was fire in all his performances 🔥🔥 however the music changed with NewJackSwing sound and MJ just took off and rocketed on Dangerous tour - MJ wanted to bring magic and escapism to the experience - MJ always danced and moved to the music - there is where the energy is coming from - and the fans and audience drove him to greater energy. Did you know he lost weight each performance from so much exertion and pain rarely stopped him. I hope in future you may react to earlier Jacksons tours like Destiny and Victory and see. Anyway, guys sorry for such a long comment. Thanks so much again. Anxiously looking forward to your next MJ Corner upload. God bless you two and little Moonwalker always. 🙏🙏🙏 Stay well and safe. Michael Jackson is forever the King of Pop - forever in our hearts and forever innocent. 🙏🙏 👑👑❤❤

    Trust me, Michael in 1980s was 10 times more energetic, amazing, unique, fresh and sang every song live while performing the dance. Suggestion Idea: Comparison video: for 80s v 90s MJ - Billie Jean @ Wembley 1988 v the song live @ Bucharest 1992 . Theres a massive difference in everything. Love you both from ireland!! His concerts in History Tour of 96/97 were mostly slow but he had health issues. 80s for moi!

      @PAWANKALYAN_21 Před 12 dny

      First of all, energy doesn't equal a better dancer. Of course, Michael was more energetic in the 1980s than in the 1990s, but as a pure technical dancer, Michael was a better dancer in the 90s. He may not be as energetic on the History Tour as on the Bad Tour, but his dancing became more sharper, more technical, and smoother on the History Tour. His dance moves have been perfected to the point where he no longer needs to expend a lot of energy anymore to perform them. He’d reached the point where he can perform dance moves more smoothly and effortlessly. Finally, what I'm saying is that Michael improvised dancing a lot in the 1980s, but he perfected his dancing skills in the 1990s.

      MJ on almost every era shines bright. Personal opinion... I just grew up more with 90's MJ. But that just shows how much talent and care MJ has for his craft. He's always looking for ways to innovate and become a better performer. MJ had a ton more left in the tank after his epic run in the 80's. And we should definitely do side by side comparisons! Thank you for the suggestion ☺️ Thank you so much for your comment!

    80s MJ had more energy, and it was the era he started debuting more of the dance moves we know him for. In the 90s he was more experienced and his dance moves were then perfected to where he no longer needed to exert a lot of energy anymore to perform them. He’d reached the point where he can perform them more smoothly and effortlessly. I'll go with the 90s Michael. But 80s Michael was unmatched 🔥

    The question: "Who would win a dance-off between "80s Michael or 90s Michael"?" The answer is that 90s Michael will win by default. because Michael's dance become more sharper and more technically sound as he gets older, Michael kept perfecting and polishing his dance moves over the years, especially on the HIStory Tour. He perfected and mastered every dance move on the HIStory Tour. So I'd argue that the 90s Michael will win the battle. 🙌🏽

      @@BelfastManUtdTherapyWhether people like it or not, the HIStory Tour is unquestionably the best tour in terms of Michael dancing. I'm not talking about energy or singing, but in terms of pure dance, the HIStory Tour is the finest; Michael perfected his dancing skills on this tour.

      @@Marshall-d1j Fax! Also he mostly lip synced after he was 35 years old and you already know how dance heavy his concerts were. Folks are ignoring almost 25 years of performances before than where he didnt lip synced. Dangerous World Tour he was at peak in all aspects of his musicianship, but MJ during the HIStory World Tour he 100% mastered his Dancing even tho he was a master before then!👑💯

It has around 65 million views, or so. You can cut the video at the end of the intro. Hey, I'm sorry for asking too much. 🙏🏼

    Hi Honey & Brown. How are you guys? Sorry I'm delayed responding - I love this song. Its soft and beautiful at the start and then the emotions come out when you hear the lyrics 😥😥 I can understand Honey's tears in her reaction -- the lyrics really hit you deep in your soul. There is much sadness in the lyrics and the title itself. Its a cry from the heart ...so very touching. Thank you for sharing it. ❤❤ I understand and pray for Chester's soul now in eternal peace. 🙏🙏🕊🕊 Thank you again and God bless you two and little moonwalker... be safe and well always. 🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰

    This song is so touching, and so tough to listen to after his death. Chester left so much good behind, but his death left such an open wound too. Can I recommend that you listen to their song "The Messenger"? It's very moving too, written by Chester for his children: "Remember you're loved, and you always will be" ❤
