    During the review I misspoke and said “Lehigh valley and New England” when the railroad is simply Lehigh and New England.

    I cannot wait for the Cumberland Valley set to come in. This is gonna be a fun one to run

    WTF can’t Lionel get the paints right? That’s a lot greener than it should be. At least when MTH made these, they got the colors right. But can’t go wrong with that Lionel sound system. And the MTH molding is superb.

    A good-lookin' engine Chris! Congratulations!
    Yes, it's been said that the Pennsy's Brunswick Green was "Two parts black, one part green" so this Mike is a bit off. Let's just say the Altoona paint shop was running low on black paint so this one came out "One part green, a half-part black." That'd work for me! 😂
    A little Lehigh & New England history for those who'd like to know. the L&NE was definately a 'no-frills" railroad, almost an industrial 'road. Their main cargoes were coal and cement and whatever they could pick up. Passenger service was secondary and in fact the dropped it entirely in the 1930s. Strictly freight after that. Considering some severe grades they had to deal with they needed big power and that PRR Mike filled the bill for them. The world's most powerful 2-10-0 types were owned by the L&NE with a 90,000 pound tractive effort. The PRR Mikes were purchased by the L&NE in 1941 and were the last steamers they bought. Diesels would follow quickly after the war.
    Good video! Thanks!

  • @mikesamericanflyertrains

    I stand by my comment on your teaser short video, that is an absolutely gorgeous Mikado. All the features, whistle steam, optional whistles, optional bells are amazing. I agree the Brunswick Green is a little too green. Prototypically, it appears black until a true black is nearby for comparison. That said, it presents itself very nicely especially with all of the details. Thanks for the review video. Looking forward to the replacement’s arrival with hope there are no other issues. Enjoy running her as I know I surely would.

    Nice reveal, I ordered the Lehigh and New England, I should be getting an email soon about its arrival. Very Nice!

    Chris, I always wanted a true PRR Mikado with the correct boiler with Legacy and whistle steam. Thanks for sharing.

  • @TrainWizardProductions
    @TrainWizardProductions Před rokem +1

    Yes, they came from three builders - Altoona, Baldwin and Lima all made them to PRR specs. I think if I were to get one it would be the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton version, that green is just too light compared to my other Pennsylvania steam locomotives but it sounds and looks good. 520 is the only one left.

    Great review Chris, i do agree this is more greener, and I hope its rectified in later PRR runs, my Harding funeral K4 has a very similar green. I preordered the Cumberland Valley set so im still excited reguardless. I guess ill throw on some weathering to tone down the green.Brunswick green has been said its black paint that you would whisper "You're green". Its got the smallest tint the shops could have added.

    Great video, I really enjoyed this! While I’m getting a PRR one almost identical to this one, I found out later that Interstate Railroad in Virginia actually bought one of these and repainted it in their livery! While it’s too late for a custom run of those in this catalog, perhaps I can convince the folks at Lionel to include it in their next run of these…

    Super cool. I considered placing an order for one a few months ago, but ultimately decided to buy a used reading T1 from MTH instead

    Can’t wait to get mine now! Hopefully you just have a loose motor mount. This happened to that Y6 you guys made me buy at York. 😅 Ran fine forward but had some hopping in reverse.

    😮 keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. What you have to say isn't important enough to get into an accident saying it!

    I need to get my hands on at least two of these

  • @SchaeferOGaugeLoggingRR

    I am excited that these are in. Should be picking mine up from my dealer in a week or two (he is a smaller dealer so has to go through a distributor). I ordered the 1369 because I think real life one offs are fun and deserve to be remembered. 1369 reflects an experimental trainphone. Thought that would be pretty neat to have running around the layout.

      just picked up the 1369, color is accurate (brunswick green) .. the trainphone is a nice added feature great engine overall.

    Also, the lettering on the tender is wrong for the post war version. Pennsylvania should be more spaced out. Need to call Lionel out on these things Chris. Trains are not cheep

  • @badams0244
    @badams0244 Před rokem

    Chris .. great locomotive. I just received delivery of the same loco cab# 1369 (item# 2331030) and it's very close to Pennsy Brunswick green (nearly black with a hint of green). Your loco (cab# 1343, item#2331021) is indicated to be the same color but it looks olive green. Don't get me wrong, really like your engine but the color is way off ..

  • @LawsonRailway
    @LawsonRailway Před rokem

    Nice train chris im sorry about the gears though i recently bought a lionel legacy #4014 big boy locomotive the train runs great but im having to send the coal tender to be fixed the electric coupler has a smoking problem and it heats up the coupler im guessing its a shortage or wiring issue just hope i can get it fixed and its no longer under warrantly and nice layout by tha way

  • @therosejewelrailroad489

    I have a mikado on order from the 2023 catalog. It’s hard to find larger steam locomotives that will work in tight corners. These mikados are a good happy medium. I’m excited to get mine after watching this video.

    The L1 Mikado is a very nice looking model, Chris. Hopefully, you'll get those reversing issues solved soon. The shade of Brunswick Green is perfect. It looks very good heading up the freight consist. Nice to have in your collection.

    Quality control is terrible as of late. For the amount money you pay there shouldn’t be anything wrong. Have had several new lionel bad out of the box. I’m done. Even if it warranty they break again.

  • @prrmiddledivision

    A friend referred me to this video and I watched your comment regarding the paint color. It's horrible. You really should call Lionel out on this, not say nonsense like "they're working on it". This just goes on and on and on, and no, its not getting better. My PRR SD-45's and special run RS-27's from Mr. Muffins are horrible. And how how about that B-6 from a few years ago. and the orange GLA hoppers. Ugh! I have two of these Decapods on order, and they will probably go back. I mean for God's sake, they are something like $800 a pop, and the color ought to be right. How hard is it to match the thing to the darn color chip? And no, I don't want to sell it to someone else, and no, I don't want to return it. I want what it was promoted as in the catalog...an ACCURATE model of a Pennsy Mikado...and that includes the paint color!!!
