  • Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar's Robot 2.0 movie has become a big blockbuster. This movie is built around the theme of cellphone tower and mobile phone radiation impacting the population of birds in India. In this video, I will explore the scientific accuracy of this claim. Do cellphone towers emit radiation? If yes, how harmful is it to birds and humans? Should we stop using our smartphones and cellphones? I explain the concept of Electromagnetic waves, ionising and non-ionising radiation and wildlife and bird conservation.

source 1 "An analysis of 97 studies by the EU-funded review body EKLIPSE concluded that radiation is a potential risk to insect and bird orientation and plant health." by sarah knapton ( science editor telegraph)
source 2:"The review of existing literature shows that the EMRs are interfering with the biological
systems in more ways than one and there had already been some warning bells sounded in the
case on bees (Warnke 2007; vanEngelsdorp et al. 2010; Gould 1980; Sharma and Neelima R
Kumar 2010) and birds, which probably heralds the seriousness of this issue and indicates the
vulnerability of other species as well. Despite a few reassuring reports (Galloni et al. 2005), a
vast majority of published literature indicate deleterious effects of EMFs in various species. The
window of frequency range and exposure time required to make measurable impacts would vary
widely among species and unfortunately we do not have any such data available for most of our
free-living floral and faunal species in India. There is an urgent need to focus more scientific
attention to this area before it would be too late." by an expert group was formed by the Ministry of Environment and Forest

@@StatusKing-lm9ji Sir/Madam, The frequency of radiation used for 5G is somewhere between that of Infrared radiation and microwave radiation. Visible light is more energetic and more powerful than these kinds of radiation. When visible light cannot pose a threat to birds, how can radiation less powerful and energetic than that pose a threat? I believe you are barking up the wrong tree. Yes, birds are dying but it isn't because of the radiation used in 5G. It's because of deforestation, climate change and urbanisation (to quote a few).

From personal observations I have noticed that in my surroundings where there is much greenery during the monsoon season this greenery lasts till October/November after that the plants which came up so quickly die very soon leaving the earth barren. But before the towers were put here, hills and woods, fields and wayside all greenery would pass away slowly from March/April onwards. Secondly, our fruit yielding trees like mangoes, guavas, bananas...... their flesh in patches have started to get sour inside. This has never happened for years to our fruit trees where we would enjoy the sweetness in our younger days. Coconut kernel and water is less tasty compared to the sweet water we would be drinking from the coconut, inspite of using organic fertilizer, compost, sea salt. Those living in villages where these towers are there and are alert and observant know this. But everyone needs a cell phone today, can't do without it. So the towers are becoming a necessity.

EM Waves do not directly affect birds but indirectly, Yes! Birds use magnetic field to locate themselves which is altered by EM waves produced artificially. So in this way they are not able to go where they want to and hence fell prey to changing weather which is not suitable for them. However many birds have adapted themselves according to this but still a plethora of species are in danger coz of this

Hey, I agree with you that cell phone radiations don't cause harm. But there are two points:
    1) The movie focuses on how the TSPs increase their radiations so that people don't face disturbances and directly affecting their businesses. That's something the movie covered. The character was not against cell phone usage. He was against the increase in the radiation power than recommended.
    2) Birds have an internal compass that detects Earth's magnetic field. Now, if cell phone radiations are within a limit, as you only suggested, then it's fine. But the radiations are way over than recommended, then it starts to affect the birds. That's the movie covered.

Brother if had time also read these below sources
source 1 "An analysis of 97 studies by the EU-funded review body EKLIPSE concluded that radiation is a potential risk to insect and bird orientation and plant health." by sarah knapton ( science editor telegraph)
source 2:"The review of existing literature shows that the EMRs are interfering with the biological
systems in more ways than one and there had already been some warning bells sounded in the
case on bees (Warnke 2007; vanEngelsdorp et al.

As a science student i definitely agree with u dhruv bhaiya ❤
Actually these non Ionizing rays don't cause as such problems in humans and animals.
Because the E or f of these photons are even less than normal bulb photon and sunlight....
So when the bulbs don't cause any problems to humans then definitely these non Ionizing rays... Can't effect humans and animals
Only problem with cell phones is there heating effect...... Only problem is the heat from the phone not the em waves...
So basically avoid keeping the phone very close to you
