This has been one talk that touched me more than the others. Wherever the USA puts its hand, it is guaranteed to become a disaster. I will never forget the one thing a Russian once said. The USA politicians are the easiest and cheapest to bribe in the world and he added on that they should never be trusted. I salute the guys from the 70's who learned by mistakes and shortcomings of weaponry in the SADF. I was part of the 86/87 2 year when things started escalating dramatically. I was trained in logistics and then over to SF Logistics. I worked myself to a standstill to make sure deadlines are met. To this day I am never late with anything in my life, it stuck with me.

The men in the supply lines are never given the credit they deserve. We salute you! Nothing happens without logistical support. Thank you for reminding us, Kaptein Leon.

What he says about logistics is correct but it goes both ways. The logistics people learned so much from Savanah too, especially shortcomings that needed to be sorted out to make logistics work better in the coming decade.
I was in logistics at Army HQ in 1984/5. People were still talking about Savanah then. The logistics improvements from Savanah to 1986 or so were massive, including rolling out new computer systems and processes to make logistics work faster and better.
The other big thing learned was the need for a long range gun and development of the G5 started in 1976.
All these technologies take a long time to develop and roll out. Thus Savanah paved the way for the revamp of the military for future ops in the late 80s.

A question for Leon. Where was KDK skool/OSC school when you were there?
I was at KDK s hool for just a few weeks in 1984 between PDK where I did most of basics to when I went to Army HQ. At that time it was a strange place on the slope of the hill in Voortrekkerhoogte. It was the old dog school and the parade ground was surrounded by pieces of the old kennels. It is now the catering school.
