    "You, the hero of the story ..." _[Shows an image of Krydle.]_
    Krydle is the bastard son of and elven man named Coran, who in return is one of the companions who can join your party during the first Baldur's Gate game. The half-elf isn't born yet at that point and is one of the protagonists in the currently running Dungeons & Dragons comic series by IDW (Legends of Baldur's Gate, Shadows of the Vampire and Frost Giant's Fury), which takes place roughly 100 years after the events of the games. Oh yeah, also Coran became a noble at that point in the story. Not sure how exactly how he did that.
    The canonical protagonist of the games is a male human of Netherese descent named Abdel Adrian, who appears in the (universally panned) novel adaptations of the games and also in the pen & paper campaign "Murder in Baldur's Gate". The latter one describes the story of what became of the last Bhaalspawn and how Bhaal came to be ressurected after all.
    In regards to the general canon, things are a bit wishy-washy when it comes to the BG games and the Bhaalspawn. Certain elements of the games and the novels are considered canon while others are not. Retroactively some elements of the Enhanced Editions of the games have been declared canon, too (for example, Neera is mentioned in Legends of Baldur's Gate). Different writers claim different things. Also, the games took some liberties with the lore at the time, for example the Rashemi witch Dynaheir doesn't wear a mask, Minsc looks caucasian and is tall, despite being Rashemi as well, Edwin - a red wizard of Thay - isn't bald and at no point makes racist comments about non-humans or sorcerers, etc.
    As to what happened to Balduran on his last voyage, those events can be uncovered in the expansion pack for the first Baldur's Gate game, "Tales of the Sword Coast". The player finds out that his ship stranded on a far away deserted island which is infested by werewolves. (I don't currently recall if the werewolves where already there or if the crew was infected and then inhabited the island by themselves.) Balduran himself died there, but the player can find his shipwreck and some of his belongings (including a butter knife :D ).

    Im writing the history of a player characters family and id really like to know when the Tax Revolt and the Dukes happened in the timeline since the family dynasty is supposed to start during that conflict as they are old sailor merchants. I can make it up of course, id probably put it around the 1000 DR mark, but having a reference somewhere and making it as timeline appropriate as possible would be nice. I am really hoping to run PotA and a video discussing The Dessarin River, Red Larch, and the important lands mentioned as back story.
    Who tf are delegates of Mirabar? They seem important, something describing Mirabar (and the city they were headed to Goldenfield, then Waterdeep) would be very helpful.
    Oooh a Factions of the Forgotten Realms would be nice. Less necessary but nice.

    • @austinbeal5666
      @austinbeal5666 Před 6 lety

      Jorphdan the book describes the area the story happens in really well. But it skims over the general geography rather quickly.
      The Dessarin Valley is described as a gateway to the North, between important places like Waterdeep and the rest of the world.
      While that's good enough to jump in and play, it feels sortof empty for a lore junky.

      @Jorphdan  Před 6 lety +1

      I'll strive to go deeper next time! In honesty I made a few simple videos for the next few weeks as my personal life is super busy. Come mid October I'll get back on track and be able to dig in further :D

    • @brainpower45
      @brainpower45 Před 6 lety

      The delegates from Mirabar seem to have been made up entirely for PotA. The only mention of them I could find (and I looked for a while when I first started running the campaign) was in the module itself, with no other outside references other than a listing of Majarra as Waterdeep nobility.
      I don't have any information about Mirabar beyond what you can find on the Forgotten Realms Wiki forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Mirabar but considering how far out of the way it is from the campaign, it is largely irrelevant.
      Goldenfields is actually extremely relevant. Not only is it a main stronghold of the Emerald Enclave faction, it is one of the few places in the valley where the party could conceivably find a cleric powerful enough to cast raise dead or greater restoration. For a very thorough write up of the area, see Storm King's Thunder, pages 44-48.
      Waterdeep is the largest city in the world, and is absolutely worthy of a video on this channel. Alternatively, see these videos for a different take czcams.com/video/DQe9UEFIdhc/video.html

    In all seriousness Baldur's Gate games all take place on the sword Coast region. Sword Coast has both Baldur's Gate and the City of Amn. If anything you would learn a lot about the lands surrounding Baldur's Gate just by playing the games.

    Not a specific time, but according to the book "The Grand History of the Realms" (Ed Greenwood and Brian James - 2007), in 227 DR (Year of the Raised Banner) Orluth Tshahuyr established the realm of Shavinar "...to the north of present day Baldur's Gate"(pg 67) - which reads to me as after that year.
    Then, on pg 108 it talks of 865 DR (Year of Flamedance), when Sammaster meets Algashon Nathire "...near or in Baldur's Gate" - which reads to me that it existed with that name at that time.
    So, not as specific as you'd like but with sources, BG was founded between 227 and 865 DR.
    The book I'm referencing can be found here: www.amazon.com/Grand-History-Realms-Forgotten/dp/0786947314

    🤔 ok there was a Forgotten Realms Dark Alliance game...2 of them in fact with both having a Dritzzt inserted & i asume bc of WOTC moniker the games were cannon but can you explain what event did Eldrith the Betrayer serve and die in and what was the entity's name that made her a Blackguard and why is there no mention of a Black Horde threatening Baldur's Gate ever?

    the interesting thing is that the Balder's Gate games protagonist is actually Duke Abdel Adrian, who is well known because of his actions. He is also a plot point for a few adventurers currently in D&D. He also might be an interesting subject for a video.

      @Travis Nilsson Personally, I like to believe that the Baldur's Gate game protagonist and Abdel are two separate characters, and there is enough evidence between the games and novels to prove my theory. In the games, the people of Baldur's Gate figure out the game protagonist is related to Bhaal, but in the "official" novels, they never figure out Abdel's heritage. Shadows of Amn's intro hints that the game protagonist was forced to leave Baldur's Gate partly because of this and what happened at the end of Siege of Dragonspear, but Abdel was subsequently kidnapped and taken to Amn. Abdel still has his Bhaalspawn essence while the game protagonist, at the end of Throne of Bhaal, had to surrender his/her Bhaalspawn essence if he/she chooses to remain a mortal at the end. The only reason why Abdel was targeted by another Bhaalspawn during Murder in Baldur's Gate is because he never gave up his Bhaalspawn essence even though in the Throne of Bhaal novel, he gave it up.
      In short, the Baldur's Gate games are more canon over the novels (Argue at your own risk, I got a lot of ammo on my side!), the game protagonist gave up his/her Bhaalspawn essence in Throne of Bhaal to remain mortal, while Abdel was off doing his own thing, and a few years later he became the Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate since the game protagonist's reputation had been ruined because everyone figured out he/she is one of the children of Bhaal, but they don't know that Abdel is one too.
