Any tank round with 180+ grams of TNT equivalent filler will overpressure, been âstudyingâ this for quite a while. A few months ago, right before they added the Object 248, the russian 100mm APHE round somehow overpressured enemies with only
Ever since I saw the video where you showed off this round I've been doing better with my tiger because even though with the round only has 153 mm worth of pen it's got 285.6 kg worth of high explosive mass and that's enough to do insta kills on even is tanks
Maus has also a secret round, it is 88mm with 300+ mm pen
Well, there is another bonkers round. and it sits at 3.0. and its a 76mm APHE round. its on the P40 italian tank. doesn't have a lot of pen but it has enough explosive mass to rival the bonkers round of the Tiger H1. imagine. 280+ grams of tnt equivalent. at 3.0
I think the round actually DOES overpressure enemies. When you overpressure someone the crew silhouettes all turn black at the same time, which happens with this round. With regular pen I think they turn black when the shrapnel hits them and in some of the kills in the video you can see that there's no shrapnel hitting some of the crew.
Well overpressure min. Limit is 270g , and this has 286g..
Exactly. The threshold of overpressure TNT equivalent is about 160g or around. Anything higher than that will create a red shockwave when exploded. When the fuze is triggered and the warhead exploded, if any important component in the compartment gets hit by the explosive stream (the orange beams), it is marked as overpressure to the compartment and any crew in it dies immediately. If it triggers, it can sometimes even kill trucks and open-top vehicles. See around 6:50, that is an overpressure kill to a truck by the Pzgr. round, which amazed me quite a lot.
Currently shells overpressure when they have 170 grams or more of TNT equivalent explosives.
This applys both to HE and APHE. So yes, since that shell on the Tiger 1 has over 170 it overpressures which is amazing. It is litteraly a 100% guaranteed one shot kill as long as your shell penetrates into the crew compartment. Even if your shell goes into the cupola and goes out of the cupola on the other side, as long as the shell was in the crew compartment the tank instantly dies. Consistant oneshots are extremely valuable in war thunder which is why this is super good.
Edit: The guy above me who says that limit is 270g is lieing. Just test drive the T29. The APHE shell on it has exactly 177g TNT equivalent and it also overpressures.
If you really wanna see an APHE shell overpressure use the eadly italians 90mm stock shell. 500g of tnt.
Either way I still cringe that they actually implemented the muh overpressure APHE myth... 2022 and shells still magically lose all momentum and explode in a perfect sphere killing everything. Not even mentioning that the explosives are encased in a thick AP shell they need to break first. The only shells that should truly nuke stuff are shells with 1kg+ of filler, e.g Su100Y, KV2 etc

If it does exit the cupola before exploding, if it is on the lower end of explosive mass amount it wonât overpressure. Funny thing is shells which can do this overpressure (like the russian 122 or german 128) sometimes donât even have to enter the crew compartment, or even the tank itself, on many occasions, ive just penetrated only the gun mantlet (or layered armour or something like that, sometimes even small cracks or holes) , leading to the detonation of the shell and it still can overpressure.
Sometime you don't event need to fully penetrate just a little pop and the crew goes deez nut
it you notice the crew already dead from the penetration before the shell detonate XD

@@socialist_elmo yeah the same works with the soviet 85mm with the less penetrating shell having over 160g of tnt equivalent when the higher pen one has 68g or something like that. and also because the angle pen is better

this is my main round when i play the tiger 1's, one thing the round excels at is killing jumbos, if you're precise enough, instead of shooting the machine gun port, shoot the base of the cupola and theyre dead no questions asked

according to armor inspector, this round can actually kill an M1 Abrams on the front by going trough the optics on the right side of the turret

Today I jumped in my BR 5.7 lineup and changed all the shells to the higher TNT filler and it preformed wonderfully. Surprised it works on an IS-1 cupola shot, but it does. Really works on breaking cannon barrels too.

I first discovered the wonders of this round when playing the flak truck, which uses the same rounds. It was absolutely wonderful, also the KV-85, IS-1, and the multiple T-34-85s and T-44-85s have similar rounds too
I use that round to 1 shot the is-1 and is-2 through the comander hatch. Its a nice change coming from british solid shot
The 165 pen round is actually pretty helpful, in dealing with T-34 and Jumbo turrets side on. It has saved me before, since it can pen those while the more HE one can't.
That is why I would likely not "main" it on the Tiger E!

2:16 on the topic of over pressure, I once got the most BS over pressure kill on a KV-1 Zis-5 with this shell. I hit his gun mantlet and his gun breech ate my shot but the overpressure from the explosion kill the crew. Kill cam said Over pressure and it showed no spalling after the breech. The shell is magic.

Yeah, this is why I use the base shell on the 90/53. The unlockable aphe has more pen but it loses explosive material.

Always knew the stock round had less he but use it still because the stock round has enough he most of the time while the pen difference can make a difference, especially in uptiers. I prefer pen over HE filler in short.
You should try out the Italian p40, its APHE round at 75mm overpresures.

The use for the pzgr.39 is for heavy targets, and for the pzgr. is for medium targets.

APHE rounds can overpressure if they have enough of explosive mass, so yeah, this one does, and you can clearly see this on t-34 on test drive when you showed the difference, crew got killed exactly the same moment when round penetrated

I don't even shoot the standard round with my tiger anymore. This shell just seems to overpressure EVERYTHING it touches!
Yeah that round is kind of glitched because you can overpressure open top tanks without even penetrating their armor so if you just happen to get a track shot over pressure if you pin them and around just passes through it'll automatically over pressure the game kills the crew before the shell even penetrates the armor

@@kennethclemons8357 aphe can detonate if it hits whatever wall or rocks can hit. Only thing that sucks is they donât detonate when they penetrate a thin armor

@@kennethclemons8357 the armor of nashorn is very thin and when 88mm penetrates it, itâs possible to overpressure since itâs open top and very thin armor and the shell is 88mm
it's essentially the dicker max round but on a tiger. I've always used the pzgr39, I'll have to change it up

i always use this round in the tiger. 153mm of pen is good enough for me since i know tanks well enough to know where to shoot. the extra filler makes it very easy to one shot tanks.

I've sworn by this round for atleast a year now. A little less pen but it overpressures which means every pen is a one shot.
Another trick is to use manual transmission mode. The game tank wont break and will push farther this way.

My most played tank over all in wt is the Japanese tiger 1 and I find that against panthers and other large tanks the Research able aphe is way more consistent.

Im using both shells. "PzGr 39" if i playing against 6.3-6.7, and "Pzgr." If im got lucky play aganst 4.3-4.7 Tanks. You loosing only 10-15 mm penetration, but its instant oneshot. But most of times standard shell enough to deal with enemys.

It has been a decade and the Minenbecher (the little cups on the front edges) are still not functional (should shoot frag explosives) and still block your guns, because the crew doesn't feel like loosening 4 screws.
Considering the amount of BS we got with resent vehicles, that seems like a real oversight.
I only use this shell ditched the other one because explosive mass all the way

1 has 130ish mm of pen while having a massive 300g of TNT
And another 155ish mm penning 150g of TNT
In fact, that 90mm was supposed to go on the P.43 2 that would have had similar armor to the panther, and a longer barrel

Tbh I wouldn't mind paper tanks so long as it's on a nation with less vehicles overall... Aka Italy, Japan, and Sweden... Particularly Japan, the only way to make it more competitive especially at higher tier is to add Korean and Southeast Asian tree to it like how Sweden gets the Nordic tree

@@Schizz76 China already has a tree and the most closest area to Japan is Korea and SEA, as to why SEA, they do have an amalgamation of tanks, some are unique, some aren't, but at least it should help the Japanese Lineups... AMX-13 from Indonesia and their Pindad Light tank; Leopard 2, Hunter and Bionix II AFVs from Singapore; FV101, LAV 300 and ASCOD 2 from Philippines; T-90S and Phong kong T-34 from Vietnam, AV8 of Malaysia... You get the gist... Same with South Korea, they have K1 and K2 tanks, Japanese tree really suffers from having few lineups and very small tree... You can just add North Korea as part of Chinese tech tree

You can main that shell but its advised to load at least 5 PzGr 39 for Jumbo turret sides, for me the loadout is 25 PzGr, 5 PzGr 39, 5 HE (Tiger H1), for the Tiger E is mostly the same except i carry 5 round less PzGr and 5 more APCR, why? Jumbo's mantlet, APCR can pen it and kill the gunner, and if you are lucky, damaging or even taking out the breech.
I mean, why you need to pen jumbo turret side when you literaly can shot side or overpressure jumbo trough Transmission using PzGr
