  • Is the Volkswagen Tiguan just a Golf on stilts? That's one of the questions we've set out to answer in this CarGurus Used Car Review, as well as offering a few tips about items to consider if you're in the market for a used example.
    Written review: www.cargurus.co.uk/research/V...
    Pros
Very practical, with lots of space for people and luggage
    Good to drive
More affordable than premium rivals from Audi and BMW
    Cons
    A Skoda Kodiaq is cheaper
    Mixed reliability record
New car warranty is short compared with those offered by Hyundai and Kia

Just picked up a 2012 model with only 55k on the clock and a full detailed service history from VW only and one owner from new. Love it

Run only best fuel and change oil regularly, otherwise you'll have huge issues with intake manifolds and carbon build-up in the intake valves, due to vent air from PCV containing oil and fuel vapours containing contaminants from poor quality fuel and dirty oil. I have a 2010 TSI Tiguan with more than 200k kms, always run on premium 98 (in Australia), oil and air filter change every 10k km, and a Forge catchcan system to take vent air from PCV and feed back to main air intake without going through manifold. My car is running nicely on all original engine, manual gearbox, pumps. Another huge common issue with Tiguan is oil leaks that saturates the water pump, causing a leaky and faulty pump, I normally put in a bottle of sealer with polymer (Liqui Molly) with every oil change, no leaks with my Tiguan after 200k kms.

This car still looks good nowadays it ages really well, I guess that is a good advantage of VW.

@@TheDetherion you won't regret it. My 2013 Tiguan never disappointed me. The only thing that is done is MOT and annual service, that's it. Excellent car.

I'm looking to purchase one to tow a caravan. They look well capable and have been considering the Ford Kuga.

I had a VW beetle turbo that I absolutely loved. Unfortunately, someone hit me and totaled my car. I wanted something bigger but felt similar to my bug. I chose the Tiguan. It drives so similar to my bug but safer. I recommend.

If you are doing a used car review please please mention whether the engine(s) uses a cambelt, the recommended interval, and average cost. This is a big cost which used car buyers will need to factor in.

2:03 Wait what? There is an electronic handbrake as opposed to a regular handbrake? I'm concerned as he quickly mentioned it's expensive to fix...has anyone ever had issues with their handbrake? I hate fiddly ''technology advances'' that turn out to be more of a hassle than a regular feature.

I have a 2011. It's a gas guzzler and repairs are painfully expensive. Too many recalls too.

@@dylanpower1438 It's been guzzling gas from day one. The recalls started a year later. And, repairs started as soon as the warranty expired. I know cars need repairs but $500 for a headlight is ridiculous.
