I loved ballet growing up, unfortunately my dance school was not ballet focused, and I didn't have the interest or support from my parents to pursue my dreams. I managed to get work doing cabaret shows in my late teens. I would dance 5-6 nights a week and my feet would get so achy. My grandmother recommended soaking them in Epsom salts - it worked so well! She was born in the early 1920s and knew so many traditional natural remedies. Every one I tried worked well, I wish I could have learnt more from her before she passed.

My pointe shoes in the 1960's were Capezio because that was what was available. So many wonderful things to support dancers today.

Fascinating! They must have been so expensive! 😬Love that Bob had such a passion. ❤️

man, when you said "this has been a hard journey", i felt that in my soul. i've been searching for a shoe that really fits my feet for the last seven years or so, and nothing seems to be quite right. many of the issues that a shoe has, they're often ones i can't really overlook. if it's the right box shape and i feel solid in the box, the vamp is probably too long for me. if the vamp is just right, the box is probably the wrong shape. or i think i find all the things, and the shank dies in four hours. some tend to make me sickle because of the angle of the box or the size of the platform, it's incredibly discouraging. so happy for you that, despite all the work to find the right bespoke options for you, that you have The Shoe now!
i am definitely curious to work with bob! i'm sick of spending so much money on different models and brands that are never quite right. and all the customs i'm trying to tweak are exhausting and expensive, haha. not that i expect the experience with bob to be any different; as you mentioned, it still takes a lot of iteration. but i'm definitely not closed off to more options :x

What a fascinating video, I didn't know it vould be this hard work to find the right shoes, happy you found the right shoe. And we need more artists like Bob who actually help people doing their art with their skills.

The Bloch stock pointe shoes are still pretty much made by hand. I visited the factory outside of Bangkok and saw all the workers making them.

Amazing again that young dancers have trainer/teachers that think all kinds of damaging things would help you in ballet. Crushing your growing feet in too small shoes for a look when those are part of what allows you to dance at all.

WOW. I loved the detail of this video. Pointe shoes are fascinating. I see people 3 quartering their shoes. It seemed like having Bob the maker just make it without those 2 nails was getting the shoe automatically more honed to you straight off the bat so that you had less to do to the shoe when you got it.
I love the details you go into and in a full, unhurried way. I want to know every dot of things and you tell every dot of things.
And you showed how we have our right minds and know ourselves and what's good for us and that it is often the power that be's offness messing us up or doing something that's not good for us such as making us wear a shoe 2 sizes too small. (so awful)
Why did the 9 pointe shoes fit in the store and not when you got home do you think? I'm amazed your mother was so nice about it.
Of course I know Russia has raked stages and studios but why? How do you feel you perform on both raked and non-raked? What's the difference of how you dance on each? Which do you prefer?
I love your channel. It's high level stuff!

Some people: Big platforms are cheating.
Me, who had terrible balance until she was put in shoes with a tiny platform: ...

Those really are beautiful. Did your teachers in Russia have any problem with the adjustment of angle for the raked stage? (Did they even know about it?)

no they didn't and still don't know about it - it's so tiny, it's not something you would see on my shoe. Thanks!

I loved Bloch's when I was younger too. For my ballroom training, the only shoes I can wear are from Bloch's.😊🌻
