bayonetta is one of the most unique, badass and fun games to play. It also celebrates femininity without being condescending.
Remind me why more studios don't take notes from this?
Strength through femininity, rather than in spite of it.
Mallic To put it blunt too many companies these days are a bunch of punk asses they think women acting in any type of sexy way is something that they got avoid because these SJW’s in highly aggressive feminist are complaining.
@UCOLGCosiYlckTRg4a7wz0Aw The reason I focus on it because the games focus in on it. She is defined by her sexuality. Her entire move-set is a reference to BDSM sex acts, her gimmick is that her clothing is made up of her hair that will unravel to reveal her skin in a sexualised manner every time she attacks, and the camera caresses her body both in cutscenes and gameplay. Like no main video game male character is treated this way unless it's done so as a joke.

@MasterStryfe what if the company owner can pay expenses himself?
I know companies that solely owned by one person no investors no directors.
@MasterStryfe man if im rich af? I'd buy the IP games that was good before but get butchered by the new owners.
I don't care how much time and money it takes, I'll just make the best games everyone wants at a very reasonable price.

I know business side this philosophy of mine is not ideal, But I don't care! Why? It's not money that matters after you're dead!
IT IS THE LEGACY YOU BUILD
The fact that the devs gave most characters glasses after Bayo finally gets approved to keep hers is such a petty move. A good petty move that I appreciate greatly.

I loved learning about how the developer of Bayonetta was insistent on the main female protagonist wearing glasses and standing up to the Sega investors. They tried so hard to convince Kamiya to remove the glasses because they hated them. But no he bravely stood up to the investors and not only left the glasses on her, he also added a variety of different glasses on nearly every other character in the game to tease the investors with more glasses! Kudos, simply brilliant. Let this be a lesson to all game developers, don't let the investors force you to change your work of art. It's your passion project, don't let them make changes you don't really want to make.
I call the glasses WitchEyes
Because Luka got to see the Angels with them!
*When the investors tell you "remove the glasses, they don't look good" it's your job to stand up and say "blocked"*
-Hideki Kamiya basically
@MasterStryfe then that would be stupid and you wasted a shitton of money because of ONE thing you wanted changed. You'd also lose a big money maker, over something so petty. That's how you go bankrupt real quick with that mindset.
It’s especially nice since girls with glasses aren’t the typical beauty standard.
@MasterStryfe basic reading comprehension, it would be a waste of money because by the time they had asked for them to remove the glasses and arguing with them they were already working on the game.
I can't even imagine Bayo without her glasses. Like, how COULD you?
There's been...cursed images of her without them xD

One thing that I will always love about Bayonetta is the fact that she's one of the, if not THE, most accurate portrayal of a witch in modern gaming. The long hair that shows her power to demons making her even more powerful. Even her sexuality is pretty spot on considering, in lore, witches happily had sex with demons in exchange for power.
I can assume there's hentai following that last sentence's premise, yes?
Luis-Raul Diaz-Rios:

@@Ramsey276one No. Check chaos magic, sex magic, black Tantra, esoteric studies and rituals regarding sexual energy. It was quite normal to work with sexual energy (which is definitely not limited with regular sex) because abundance and fertility (crops, animals) also branches of this energy. An esoteric concept. With this energy you cultivated by sexual practices, you can charge (empower) curses, hexes and other offensive metaphysical effects. Black magic stuff.

27:53 I really agree with this since I personally really dislike when in films or games try to do a sexual scene but it feels really awkward or creepy at times yet I never felt that way with Bayo.
When she summons the demons it feels more artistic than pervy or exploitative due to the dance and the way her hair spirals around her.
She uses her sexy dance to flex on haters not to seduce men
We can definitely see that she's in control of the sexiness of the situation.
@@KaitouKaiju well, she uses it for both, and it's AWESOME!
Sometimes when I'm down, I'll look up either the Bayonetta 1 or 2 opening. Just a nice reminder that you can tackle your problems with glamour and flamboyance.

Moon Moon I mean most of those aren’t big problems, and if that “peak” you mentioned only comes with like 400 hours of play, then is it really a bad thing if it lasts that long?

On the subject of the accessories fitting the theme of playing a witch P* also got the lore around witches damn-near 100% perfect, from their hair being used as a catalyst for their magic, to witch-guns, to the beauty mark of Bayo's chin, even the idea of The Left Eye, and so-on, it's all accurate to the superstitions people held about witch craft some centuries ago.
The angels are also depicted more accurately to their original depictions in The Book of Enoch. Which is also fascinating in its own right.
And of course the Enochian incantations!
Fallen One from Moon's dark
Come forth and rule with thunder!
And of course the Enochian incantations!
Fallen One from Moon's dark
Come forth and rule with thunder!
I also love how she dances to summon her infernal demons as it refers to how people saw dancing as a signal of witchcraft.
The cool thing is that it doesn’t even just play off of those kinds of angels, it takes inspiration from many religions! For example, the Dear & Decorations resemble beings from Norse mythology. And don’t get me started on the accessories, they nailed cultural aspects in those!
@@gaminwatch8203 I actually *don't* like it when works of fiction mix mythologies. why? because when it's all just one mythology you get a sense for how the world works and you can make guesses as to what will happen next in the story. when you mix mythologies the audience has no way of knowing what the rules of that universe are

12:27 - Fun fact: The DMC "lock on, hold a direction, press jump" button combo to dodge _still works in this game._ This is significant because when you get the Beast Within later on, dodging twice in a row will suddenly cause you to transform (disrupting certain strategies like dodging circles around an enemy to safely get behind them), but by using the DMC button combo, you can dodge all you want without accidentally transforming!
You can also dodge out of Beast Within, which if I remember correctly, also resets your dodge limit of 5 in a row, the 5th one being where Bayo would flip really high without gaining much distance, and pause in place for a moment. So if you do it in a specific manner, you can use a few dodges in a row, go into panther form, and then dodge out of it again to have more dodges. Helps out a fair bit since you can also choose to do an attack out of panther mode if you're going for higher combo scores. Plus, another iirc moment, I think dodging out of it propels Bayo forward pretty quickly, which can be good for getting out of the way for last minute evading. Such a great game.
I love that this game really does have "You learn something new every time you go back to it", even ten years after its release!
@@Waffersforever The 5 dodge limit ending in a sexy pose was done to prevent people from cheesing the game by trying to dodge absolutely everything and force players to actually learn to time their dodges. Changing forms to crow or panther and then going back will reset the dodge limit. It is funny though that instead of just having her stop dodging after 5 for a cooldown or something they just made her do something sexy and lay there looking like "Oh, do you wanna hit me? Come get some"
You can dodge continuously without transforming simply by timing correctly
I had no idea of this :o thanks a lot because I'll definitely give it a try

Regarding the "secret stuff", I still remember that moment I found out your sword can actually shoot a freakin' laser beam.
Felt so great :D
I like how witch time is such a distinct yet incredible feature that dozens of modern games, even in the west are using it.
"Bayo is so powerful in every faucet of her being. She's so well written, all of her dialogue hits."
so well put!! I love this character so much. I also really like how you described the sexual aspect to her. Bayonetta is different than a lot of female characters in that regard. She doesn't feel objectified and it doesn't feel demeaning or gross. Bayo's sexuality feels powerful, and it's so nice to have that in a female protagonist instead of the sex-doll-fanservice-object that female characters are often used as in games.
You can’t objectify a fictional character so you are just projecting. You like bayonetta so it doesn’t feel like objectifying, but you don’t like some other characters so they feel objectified. Not that they actually are objectified.
It’s also extremely rare that female characters end up like that. And bayonetta is one of those, she is kamiya’s fetish character.
I actually wrote about the Dodge Offset and it’s usability for one of my Uni essays. Ended up getting a very high grade on it. It’s such a cool mechanic and once I figured it out how to use it I fell in love.
Bayonetta really defined a lot for what video games could do and how a story could be told. I was 12 when it came out. 22 years old now, 10 years later after the release and it still had such a big impact on my life.
This video was uploaded ten days after the death of Enzo's voice actor, Chick Vennera, in this one. Man... R.I.P.
As fun and interesting as the side characters are in this game, in the sequel they graduate and evolve into an awesome, almost Scooby-Doo-Crew style ensemble cast.
Luka is my favorite, though.
Top Japanese developers seem to have so much more artistic integrity which stands out in these days of live services and games built as vehicles for monitisation

Thank you for making this video even though it was hard for you. I really love and appreciate the effort put into this
Found this video from a channel I haven't seen before in my recommendations. I had a good time! I particularly like and agreed with your take on Bayonettas sexuality and femininity.
As an asexual person, fanservice always felt alienating to me. There would be something enjoyable happening, and then it would be interrupted by something that is of no interest to me. Particularly when the fanservice was of a character not even in a sexual situation but being leered at by the camera.
But, Bayonetta didn't feel like that. It felt like she owned it. It became an actual aspect of the character. And that made it enjoyable to me. Even if I couldn't appreciate it on a sexual level, it could still be an enjoyable or funny character moment. I laughed so much at this games sheer over-the-topness, sexiness included. It was so pleasant to have something openly sexual that was enjoyable to me because of that rather than in spite of that for the first time in my life.
It's something I wish more artists would do - make it part of the character. Don't write it as forced upon the character, write it as their choice. Don't put in an achievement for looking up a girls shirt or make a pervert character force her to wear a skeevy outfit, don't try to justify forcing her to do it by saying she breathes through her skin. Make her poses and clothing her choice, write her with that in mind. It would feel lot less unpleasant and tacked on.
Also, *yes*, the Bayonneta cover of Fly Me To The Moon is so good!

So cool indeed with the details and specifics, had a blast watching and listening in late this morning. I wish I had 12 extra hours in a day to be able to do more things with my current work and other daily life stuff - getting back into playing games being one of them. Still always enjoy the environment though despite just observing now. Have a great rest of your Sunday!
Very well spoken video 🙂 Nice to see some love for Bayonetta!
1:12 That team was... *ad starts* ... white castle!
Man, Kamiya retweeted my all-platinum run a couple years ago; the I can feel the love alllll over this game and I really liked this video.
Please, if you haven't, buy this game and expect to enjoy it for a loong time. Bayo 2 is great too, but, its definitely...different.
Amazing voiceover and narrative presentation.
*5:15** Listen close and proud, children of every age. This is one of the most important anecdotes in history. And yes, ocassionally, the history of videogames.*
