Mamamoo are considered to be the vocal gold standard among kpop girl groups and they have one of the most diverse discographies you'll ever encounter. Koreans say Mamamoo can sing anything and write a song about anything. They have the most songwriting credits of any girl group in kpop history (about 200) including a bunch of crack songs that provide evidence of their ability to write a song on any topic lol. Tho Solar (2nd from left) is often referred to as the main vocal Mamamoo doesn't really have set positions other than Moonbyul as the main rapper and Solar as the leader. They're an all star group of best friends and each member has a successful solo career as well. Moomoos (Mamamoo fans) say MMM is 4 singers, 4 rappers, 4 dancers, 4 songwriters, etc and leave it at that rather than trying to place them in a pecking order.
There are MVs for every song in the Killing Voice medley except I Miss You, a pre-release single from their 2016 album Melting, which often appears on lists of the best kpop albums of all time. One of their best and most emotional performances of I Miss You was on the 2019 competition tv show Queendom, where Moonbyul rewrote her rap verse as they turned I Miss You into a love song to their fans in the audience. many recommend the Killing voice to introduce Mamamoo but I've always thought you can have a real taste of their vocals only with their immortal songs performances...those are really craaaaaaaazy. If you don't have time there is an 'immortal songs medley' form a concert of them but I highly recommend to watch fully at least Delilah, Passion flower, the way to Sampo and Backwoods.

I'm a newer fan and got hooked off this killing voice, especially i miss you. To touch on the rap, one of the reasons i like moonbyul is that her voice adapts to the mood of the song. She personalizes her raps, and that's dope to me, so even in i miss you, it wasn't harsh or fast, it was just perfect. You should definitely watch Queendom as well as immortal songs, especially Backwoods and Road to Sampo(?) Which are my favorites. But their chemistry is special. Two sets of best friends, and they all get along great. They can all sing exceptionally well, including Moonbyul. And they're all extremely funny together.

😁She (the 2nd from ther left, in black dress) is Solar - the best vocalist in kpop, period...And the others: Moonbyul (Moonstar) - the rapper , 1 of the the most prolifics composers & producers in kpop, Wheein - the other vocalist next to Solar,(the 3rd from the right) - an amazing singer (and painter as well), and lastly, but not least by no means, Hwasa - with the husky, sultry voice., which oozes charisma .. and all 4 make the BEST vocals in all kpop, and probably the best vocal group in the world, in my humble opinion.

In addition to their beautiful harmonies and amazing stages, we also have Mamamoo to thank for Killing Voice existing in the first place! Solar (member 2nd on the left) wanted to go on Dinggo's Killing Verse, which at the time was for rappers. She wasn't accepted, but they created Killing Voice and invited Mamamoo on for the first video! That is the power of their vocal talent ❤

Moomoos (that is the name for Mamamoo fans) dream that Mamamoo will do a second Killing Voice one day. They have so many amazing songs in different styles that any set of ten songs necessarily gives an incomplete picture.
The closest they have come to doing this is this wonderful “band live” performance on the Hwasa Show, where they perform several group songs (including Paint Me, that another commenter has mentioned) as well as one solo song for each member:

Mamamoo doesn't do official positions like other groups do. there's no leader, no main vocal or dancer. like it will say they have positions if you google it but they don't follow that at all. Solar [sleeveless dress] and Moonbyul [rapper] call Hwasa [raspy voice/white shirt, maknae] and Wheein [the one next to her, puffy sleeves] their "kids" but that's about as formal/official as things get
also idk if anyone has said it yet or not but they're the reason we have killing voice. this is the very first one. it used to be killing verse for rappers only and then Mamamoo rather uh, insistently, asked to be included. dingo finally caved and we got this masterpiece, plus all the ones that have followed!

They debuted back in 2003, and are all voice coaches/professors at various universities in South Korea now, earning them the nickname "Professor-dols." They debuted as an all-vocal group, no rapping, no dancing. They're as close as can be to technically perfect, and have some really amazing early 2000s rnb sound so them. I hope you watch it at some point!

In the rap in i miss you, i hear this often... I think it fits... its more of a naration or spoken part, but she still gives it some rythym. The effect is (to me) this heart felt song expressing all the ways they are missing someone to a personal direct message to that person through a spoken message. If you imagine yourself the recipient of the song, it has a bigger impact. As this version of i miss you is from queendom, where they changed the lyrics from saying they miss that someone special, to be more generalised about the fandom, it is like the rap is for them individually. I also feel that the emotion of this song, is carried throughout the whole song, including the rap, the feelings behind the song and its meaning and how they perform it is what makes me really love this song.
Anyway, this is my argument for the rap in i miss you :) Could it work without the rap - Certainly. Would this song be as much loved if it excluded Moonbyul by the moo moo's (mamamoo fans) probably not. Can mamamoo do a balad without a rap that involves all four? yes, see 'Paint Me' (and some others). But when they used Paint Me as the opening song in their big concerts, it was changed from a ballad to an epic opening number that included a rap that was amazing (both versions are great)

Fun fact about their song "Hip", they actually wrote it for their haters. Like, with all the articles and comments they make on how they dress, and just throwing all the hate on them.
"Bbi-bbi-bbi it becomes a controversy, my fashion
I don’t care much, just action
Keep on click me click me, like you’re possessed, zoom

Thank you for the honest and appreciative reaction. I have subscribed for more!!!
This Killing Voice video was what pushed me over the edge into becoming forever a Moomoo who will never let go. These these ten songs show a diverse range, as you pointed out. Apart from I Miss You and Dingga, which are both B-sides, the other eight songs are title tracks from their albums. The title tracks that did not appear here are Piano Man, Um Oh Ah Yeh, You’re The Best, Yes I Am (that existed at the time of this video) and Where Are We Now, mumumumuch, Illella (which came later).
Mamamoos full discography is insane. Moomoos have been keeping a spreadsheet of all songs, including commercial songs, original sound tracks and covers, by Mamamoo and subunits and solo songs, and a long time ago the count went past 365, meaning that you could listen to a different song every day of the year and still have a long way to go. The range of styles is phenomenal. The covers are also excellent: Mamamoo can sing anything and make it sound like their own. They showed this off in their famous appearances on the show Immortal Songs 2, and it’s true whatever they cover. They are helped in this by a world class crew of composers, arrangers and producers at their company RBW, who know how to make beautiful use of the skills of the four members.
The rapper, Moonbyul, writes almost all of her rap verses. As a result, she has 100+ songwriting credits. All members have tried their hand at writing lyrics and at composition. Mamamoo are sometimes described as “self-produced” but that’s not really true. It was part of their image early on, and they were given freedom and encouragement to train in these various skills more than most idol groups. In the long run, though, they have worked closely with their producers and composers, and occasionally some of them will have a writing or composition credit (in addition to Moonbyul’s many rap credits). I hope each of them will lean more into these dimensions in the future.
One of the best decisions they ever made was to not use main/lead/sub designations. When they debuted, Solar was “leader and vocalist”, Moonbyul was “rapper and performance” (she created a lot of the early choreo), Wheein was “vocalist and performance” and Hwasa was “vocalist and rapper”. The three designated vocalists have such distinct powerful voices, and yet can also blend with each other so beautifully, that anyone writing songs for Mamamoo immediately can call on an incredible range of vocal colours.
The extra vocal ingredient is Moonbyul, who herself originally trained as a vocalist before switching to rap. She is an excellent singer in the deeper range, and can often be heard completing their harmonies. Sadly she lost some confidence after being asked to switch to rap, and for a few years we didn’t hear much of her vocals. Thankfully that changed during 2018-2019 during their 4 Seasons 4 Colors project, and she has had plenty of soulful vocal lines ever since then. Even when she raps, she will sometimes take a more vocalist approach, which gives her access to a wide range of expressive tones for the rap verses. A couple of years ago she participated in a reality show called Second World, in which the rappers from various girl groups competed to show off their vocals. There were many excellent performances all around, but Moonbyul was the landslide winner.
All of them have developed successful solo careers, each with a unique flavour. There really is no weak link. Of course, as they all gratefully acknowledge, their success with Mamamoo gave them their start as soloists. But by now each of them has such a strong body of solo work that whenever they do reunite as Mamamoo there is a certain “supergroup” energy.

Mamamoo é a RAZÃO de haver uma "Killing Voice", eles foram os PRIMEIROS. E é uma das razões de ser tão curta. Antes deles era The "Killing Verse" e apresentava SOMENTE Rappers. Especificamente "The Killing Voice" existe por causa do Solar.

Solar (2nd from left, black sleeveless dress) is the "official" main vocalist, though Wheein (next to her in the business-suit-inspired dress) doesn't give up much in her rare instances of belting, and Hwasa's torchy stylings are amazing in their own way; easily main singer level, all. Moonbyul/Moonstar auditioned as a vocalist but got relegated to the rapper role because (1) every group HAS to have a rapper and (2) she has the lowest timbre voice and limited high range. That's what happens to performers like her in the Korean music industry, which exalts and worships high notes (irrespective of the singer's gender!). Fortunately, she excelled at rapping and writing her own lyrics, and over time has practiced enough to be considered a high-end lead vocalist, good enough to go solo, but still the least powerful singer of the four. Fun fact: Hwasa was not in her "best voice" for this, you can tell that she was a bit congested and held back her vocal power in spots. Still a damn good performance despite that!

    Main vocalist = yes.
Moonbyul, the rapper, auditioned as a vocalist and would be the main vocalist in any other girl group, and she is the weakest of the four. This is like a supergroup, made up of the best vocalists of their generation, but they debuted together. RBW has several other groups in their stable, but they really caught lightning in a bottle with Mamamoo.
