Thie following is the best quote I've seen that explains why Bowie insisted the BBC cut his performance from air only a few songs in and then spent years making vague excuses about sound quality and the like to avoid the full set being aired...until now. "I think Bowie knew exactly what he was doing on the night of June 25, 2000. He wasn’t about to give away his peak performance or his catalogue for nothing. He hoarded that night so that one day it could be shown in all its glory as his legacy, the culmination of his golden years and surely his greatest concert since he buried Ziggy Stardust at Hammersmith in July 1973. It’s a time capsule of his life, ready to be shared with us now that the stars have aligned.”
I just watched the whole set on BBC Covid-19 replacement coverage, I was at this festival in 2000 and had forgotten just how amazing Bowie was, I will never forget the moment he came on onto the stage in his long white coat, radiating like the rock star god he was.
Michelle Wardle : me too. Watched it, full volume and can't deny I had a tear in my eye. Saw him many times live and those nights are up there with the best in my life

I remember him walking out onto the stage in that big white coat and he was such a presence on the stage, like a God had walked before us .... One the most amazing live signing voices along with Mr Mercery who unfortunately I never got to see :(. but Bowies singing sends shivers down ya spine.
So beautifully said. My one & only experience at Glastonbury (I'm in Australia) was in 1994. It was the most magical, beautiful 3 days of music I've ever experienced - even everything getting stolen from my tent didn't dampen my mood. Unfortunately we got stuck with Peter Gabriel as the closing act. Bowie closing would have been a religious-like experience for me too, I get what you're saying. He was my first ever concert at the age of 11, and I have never forgotten it. RIP my HERO.
hated the cutting up ..wanted to see Bowie all the time..Glastonbury never sounded so good..rest in peace David..rest in peace.you ve given me many many years of happy memories with your music.thank you.
Fans from the 70 s if I'm not mistaken were so passionate....it's amazing how they will feel the music not giving a care what the other prune fan will think of him.....amazing and David u are awesome...you are the reason why I have a little man in my house that I called David....
I never went to Glastonbury Festival. But I did go for ten years to Greenbelt Rock Festival, which was held at Glastonbury & Knebworth House. Back in the 80's to 90's
I'm a local and always get a ticket no problem. This year my luck run out and at the moment I will be missing the festival, the best week of my year. Bowie has always been that one act I say "I wish I had seen and not been only four years old not even able to comprehend the greatness of Glastonbury." I'm sad that next year I may not be there.
Actually have still not yet processed the fact he has passed. All I know is he has left us all so much to enjoy- I mean there is something for every mood you find yourself in. What an amazing talent. What a pure artist. And then then you will find something you never heard before and it blows your mind, you fall in love all over again. Thank you David Bowie
@@lilianapatriciazumaya233 I was there. Didn’t go to see Bowie but still he was amazing. Went to see some new band you may have heard and not many did back then called Coldplay 👍
0nly 16yrs back, yet so long ago and never no more,so sad that talent is lost to the children of the next 16yrs,mum & dad will only be able to speak of the incredible talent and thankfully his performances and magnetism will live on long after long after those that grew with his charisma are long gone & god bless. David Bowie (Jones) hopefully will live on.[will miss you man and the pub outback & 'china girl'] Always forever one of the Heroes.
Im 62. Looks like older footage of woodstock in many ways. Nice touch from Bowie with a kaftan style suit and long hair. He was a really class act live. Saw him in 76 station to station tour. He looked awful. Again at Milton Keynes, serious moonlight tour. A transformation . Berlin out of his system. He was fantastic x
The single greatest musician to ever draw breath on planet earth. RIP David. I only wish I had the honor of seeing you live like all these fortunate souls did.
I was there that night. High on magic mushrooms. Hot and spicy Cyder and loads of joints. What a gig he put on. The only time I got to see the great man.
I was there in '71 and, So glad I was there again along with all those in the audiance before the stage to hear David and the band in 2000. My last Glastonbury Festival.

Bowie with that hair is like God came down and said "hey you....it's your day today." Yes, I love him.
i was in the crowd that night, i was 18 yrs old and pretty clueless about bowie, what a performance and what a night - RIP David Bowie
Been a fan all my life I'm 61
wonderful, to see people not afraid, normally, fearless. Remember what you seen, remember how it was, bring yourself back.
David Bowie is gone, but he will never die.
His greatness will last forever.

[Verse 1]
I'm drunk off your kiss
For another night in a row
This is becoming too routine for me
But I didn't mean to lead you on
And it's alright to pretend
That we still talk
It's just for show, isn't it?
It's my fault that it fell apart
[Pre-Chorus]
Just maybe you need this
And I didn't mean to
Lead you on
[Chorus]
You were everything I wanted
But I just can't finish what I've started
There's no room left here on my back
It was damaged long ago
Though you swear that you are true
I'd still pick my friends over you
[Post-Chorus]
My friends over you
[Verse 2]
Please tell me everything
That you think that I should know
About all the plans you made
When I was nowhere to be found
And it's alright to forget
That we still talk
It's just for fun, isn't it?
It's my fault that it fell apart
[Pre-Chorus]
Just maybe you need this
And I didn't mean to
Lead you on

You were everything I wanted
But I just can't finish what I've started
There's no room left here on my back

There's no room left here on my back for you
It was damaged long ago
Though you swear that you are true
I'd still pick my friends over you
[Post-Chorus]
My friends over you!
Chorus]
I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be us just for one day
[Verse 3]
I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing by the wall (By the wall)
And the guns shot above our heads (Over our heads)
And we kissed as though nothing could fall (Nothing could fall)
[Refrain]
And the shame was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them forever and ever
Then we could be heroes just for one day
[Bridge]
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
We can be heroes just for one day
We can be heroes
[Outro]
We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, just for one day
