  • In this sound design tutorial I'll show you a technique to sound design retro game sound effects (think of various Super Mario sound effects).
The beautiful thing about these sound effects is that they need very little processing (if any at all) and are mainly dependent on a clever choice of notes.
I'm using the free soft synth Vital but this can easily be replicated with other synthesizers as well.
In this short video you can see a few patterns for Super Mario Bros. sound effects:
    • I Made 4 Super Mario B...
    0:00 - The sound
    0:16 - Waveforms to use
    0:30 - Basic idea
    1:07 - LFO for pitch
    1:35 - LFO for volume
2:12 - Extending the grid and more shapes
    3:17 - More shapes
    3:48 - Final tips

which program is most suitable for a beginner, I want to combine sfx and vfx together and become a good specialist in both, so I am counting on your help, what program do you recommend most?

Hi! If you have no experience with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) I don't think that it necessarily matters which one you choose. More importantly you probably want to look at your budget and the amount of tutorials you'll find for a specific DAW.
Reaper is a relatively cheap DAW that is used by professional sound designers.
Ableton is one of the most expensive DAWs (as far as I know) but there are a lot of great free tutorials that'll help you a lot when you are starting out (there seems to be more content available than for Reaper).
If you also want to use your DAW to edit audio and video together, then Reaper will probably be the better choice.
However, there are other programs like FL Studio or Bitwig as well (and most of them are quite a bit cheaper than Ableton); I suggest you simply try them, as they will usually have free trial versions and see which one is the most intuitive for you.
      I hope this helps!
