I grew up in ballet, and it warms my heart to see a teacher giving a correction with respect. Emotional abuse is so common in the ballet world, so thanks for showing these students what it should be like to receive a correction in class.

His corrections were perfect. Teaching her NOT to toss herself around and rely on momentum will prevent many injuries
Edit: Hypermobility is actually very common, but for dancers can be very dangerous long term. Because we are more flexible in our joints, we don't rely so much on core strength and muscles, which causes micro injuries.

With all the horrible things in the news it’s so refreshing seeing a male teacher showing so much respect to his female students. You can tell when he corrected her she didn’t flinch in the slightest which shows she has not an ounce of fear. And all the other girls watching so intensely really shows how much they respect their teacher as well as their fellow students. I know how competitive ballet is and usually your classmates give the stink eye when you do something well and the instructor shows you attention. All the girls looked completely supportive of her.

He didn't just use his hand. He moved her body into the right position. That is what ballet teachers should do. In the West today, students are on a tear about touching. Ridiculous trend in ballet. These kids want to be dancers. If they are in a good academy, they should already be learning partnering (pas de deux). Couldn't get much more intimate than that between boy/girl, men/women (without sex). So students who want to be dancers should start being realistic and put touching into perspective.

He’s a GREAT dance teacher, because during my 7 years of dance experience, I quit dance because I suddenly lost the motivation to dance. I didn’t know why, because I loved dancing, but it didn’t feel like I loved it. I realized it was because how my teachers acted towards me when I mess up. I started messing up more often because I get so tense when we go across the floor for warm ups. Everyone was just staring at me REAL hard, especially my teachers. I struggled with anxiety so it didn’t end out well, they would criticize me in front of everyone and when I would mess up again they straight out yelling at me. I held in my tears so I wouldn’t cause more problems. I still love dancing to this day, and maybe I can have another chance of trying again.

If you do a sport or an art where you need another human to support you, like dance or gymnastics, then touching a student like this is not only common but the safe way to teach. You can point from a distance, but like in this instance, the student couldn't feel the difference for herself until he pushed the right part of her body into place. Often the teacher is helping a student do a skill they are not physically capable of alone yet, so they know how it feels to do it correctly. Whether that's moving a leg higher than they have the strength to support or holding someone through a backend they can't land yet, a good teacher/coach is going to be hands on because it's dangerous otherwise. It's not weird or creepy unless the touches are unprofessional, unnecessary, or inappropriate. I would also be startled if someone touched me like that, because I never did a sport like this. But you have to have some level of reasonableness.

This was a PERFECT demonstration of how IMPORTANT proper ballet training is in children when they are this young!
The slightest shift and INSISTENCE from her ballet master to correct her framing and muscular development can prevent her from years of pain later in life!
This shows just how dramatic that tiny shift can be and how easily poor training and lazy teachers allowing bad habits to root in can completely ruin this child’s potential and ultimately…her dreams! It’s THAT important! So if anyone is wondering ??? That is why he takes these corrections so seriously and makes sure SHE DOES TOO!

Beautiful form on such a lovely little lady!! My daughter is in ballet and loves it!! I was a gymnast, rode horses and figure skated for almost 16 years, and then played field hockey all through high school!! It's so good for your spirit to do things that make your heart smile ❤

Put your leg down a little lower and then you can lower the opposite hip, as it should be. Don’t ever extend yourself to where you can’t control yourself. Control is more important and beautiful.

She’s going to be a beautiful ballerina. What a wonderful thing to watch. The teacher is doing exactly what he was supposed to do. I’m impressed with this. Her extension is clearly amazing. But she needs to learn how to use the rest of her training to perfect her technique as well. And she seems to be in capable hands with that teacher. Well done everyone. I’d love to watch her progress to the place where she’s meant to be when she’s older and ready for a successful career in dance. Keep working hard and you’ll be the best dancer that you can be my friend. I wish you much success and happiness.

i ride horses, and whenever my instructor is correcting me or someone else, they don’t say everything that is wrong. that way, it’s not overwhelming and you can think properly about the biggest issues. the biggest issue here was her waist dropping, not her fingers.
