biwa rig have been used not only for shallow water application, but for deep water fishing as well for quite sometime in Japan now. Also, over there, it is known as "Mid Strolling" (ミドスト)for mid range strolling. (which they've been using this technique for different range of water regardless of name of this technique)
I was under the impression from all of my research that the Lake Biwa rig was hover shot fishing a paddle tail worm and that when they fish a ballhead like this and wiggle the rod tip while retrieving the bait that it was called mid strolling or midst for short, that’s just what I had gathered from all the Japanese videos I watch
As always you share great information !
love your episodes I always pick up small things from all the detail you include. Example would be the the difference the line tie makes on jigs and how to use it,
I’ve been using the Ryugi Vespa ball head size 2, 1/16th oz with a 2” easy shiner for awhile now for early post spawn bass on BFS gear. I like the Ryugi more than the keitech ball head because the keeper is much better. I like tungsten for size but will give the midst a shot, the weed guard would be a plus.
Great video and great looking bait 👍
Great stuff guys, what size hook is on the 1/8 oz, Midst Jig Head?
I have been using very successfully the swimming yum dinger cut to 3" on a 1/16 ballhead for whippers and white bass that refuse to bite bigger baits. Catch tons of smallies, spots and LM on it too. Another body that works really well is the 3" slider grub.
How does the OSP shad tail differ from the Megabass Spark Shad? Will they have a similar action/profile on a Keitech ball head?
I literally filmed a show and used this today. Toshi from OSP showed it to a friend of mine. It slays on schoolers
Looking forward to seeing it!
I’m really old so my eyes don’t work all that well but it looks like the example you showed in the tank, which looks pretty awesome by the way. It looks like an inline eye and not like the one you were explaining with the cross eye. Or was that just me?
Howdy. I just bought a st croix victory full contact finesse and was wondering what a good reel would be around the same price range for the jig fishing and pitching I would be doing with it
Preferably shimano under 200$
I was just wondering wth this rig consisted of, thanks for posting. Looks killer👍🏼
Thank you for watching!
I like how you danced around the phrase " Damiki rig" 😉 well done 👏
Or weedless Ned rig. Or swim bait with ball head jig. Anything for views right??
Interesting little rig! I was curious fishing pole you recommend for the IXI Shads and other finesse rigs on bait caster
So those can be a challenge. A lot of guys love the Megabass Destroyer P5 Z Crank Elseil for this size bait. I like a little softer rod, so Kasumi 611 for me. Or Flatside special in orochi
I’ve been killing it with this rig on ultralight. Caught a 4 lber which is large for the lake. It’s funny how the big fish won’t hit the regular sized stuff, but when you downsize they suddenly want to bite.
Glad it's been working for you!!
OR up-size to giant glide type ultra realistic looking baits and the same thing happens...
Looking for bait recommendations for suspended bass 4-6 ft. Southern NC bass fishing along with drift fry. And weight size as well
Wow!!! A 1/8 ball jig with a small swim bait on it.😂Thanks for the info 🙏🏾
Cool, it just got shipped. 😀
I get it now!😂. Someone was looking ahead when they put the bento boxes together!!👊🏻👊🏻 Thanks guys!!
Cheers my friend! 🍻
Could y’all do a how-to episode on the “Mid-Strolling” technique? It’s been around a while and there’s Japanese videos about it but there’s hardly any info in English.
Hi, just a question, bio rig it is just a way to fish or a style it is not a brand name or swimbait brand, so in Canada we have a brand name bio rig, it is the same or it is just a way to fish
Hey Ben, you're a tackle nerd. lol
Is this technique like tight lining?
Hey Ben couple of wind buster questions since I consider you the expert. 1) when will they be in stock? 2) I fish a lot of cypress trees with a wacky worm and is the wind buster strong enough to get them out of the trees and does it skip baits well? O and Sorry these may be off topic questions but I don’t have social medias and this is the only way to ask.
Windbuster will be back in April 2023. It’s a strong rod, but definitely not a flipping style rod - so just depends on how heavy the cover is
I ordered the Megabass Landsat from you guys. To go along with my Daiwa 22 Exist. 😁
Thank you for your business 🍻
@@thehookuptackle_usa You're welcome. I'll be buying a lot more stuff.
How is the steez 7’6 compared to the nrx+ 902?
When are you going to have the DEPS Midst jig head back in stock
Al Linder has been doing this technique for years with a single tail grub same exact set up look it up works great around grass
This. A twister tail on a lead head is most people's first soft plastic lure for crappie and so forth.
Call it what you want, but this isn't anything new or special
Yeah this was a really big article in In-fisherman about 15 years ago. I bought a (now-discontinued) Fenwick Elitech River Runner light power trout rod about 15 years ago to throw 2-3" grubs and paddletails on light ballhead jigs for white bass, walleyes, smallies etc. Recently, I've been swimming 2.8 white ghost Keitech's texas rigged on #1 EWG's with 1/16th oz bullet weights because I ran out of weedless ballheads.
I dunno guys. This feels like If I were to come up with a brand new rig, let's call it the Matt Rig, that utilizes a bobber stop, a flipping weight, and an EWG hook, in order to fish soft plastics in and around cover. If this can be called the Biwa Rig, the Texas rig shall henceforth be known as the Matt Rig. Maybe the nuance is too nuanced for me :)
Like I said, it's basically a ball head swimbait - just a variation on that. super nuance 👍🍻
Yeah, total bs
@@stupiditypissesmeoff330 american fishing is just annoying, the ways use set hooks to all of the stupid names for different rigs lol way to complicated
Literally catching em on that right now
Haha! Of course you are 🤣🍻
Would the Liar Minnow work as a hover rig?
Thank you Charlie Brewer.😊
the only bait fish we have in are lake is Japanese pond smelt are fish dont get very big but there's a bunch of spots
we are now getting "strolled to death" here on CZcams with all of the numerous hover/strolling variations as the different tackle companies battle it out for what has already become a very competitive market. Put in the right place at the right time, they will ALL work.....
This is what most flats fisherman in Florida have been doing for decades. I have been catching giant snook on that rig for decades.
Who makes that jig? What color?
So glad that you guys don't mispronounce keitech like almost the entire bass fishing community does!
That little bait should be absolutely killer for snook under lights at night in Florida. Really anything might bite them that eats glass minnows, which are little bait fish that can be hatd to imitate. You'd probably need a stronger hook or jig head for heavier tackle.
I use this for trout fishing monster Brown Trout here in the SoHo River 🤫
I could see that being killer!
Good stuff as always Ben , I didn’t realize you posted a new video tel late. I can’t imagine Jeffery fishing that technique though 🤔 I was some what comatose from fishing this morning . The humidity is terrible down here in the southern Az arera 🥴😵💫
This was a joke, it has to be. I got magical hook attached to a wire that u can connect blades that spin. I'll be happy to give it to you for a low low price of 20 bucks. Just u. I call it spin kick
I'll never fish this rig. I just love this channel and content, as well as all the amazing tackle you guys have to offer! Will support your business, always!
Thank you for your support! Not every rig is right for every angler. Thanks for watching 👊🍻
Is this different than a damiki rig?
So this is just a different upscale version of Tightlining like we do around East Tennessee in the winter.
So, this is different than the hover rig?
Was that rigged upside down in the first underwater footage?
No
This like hover strolling but instead a hook and nail weight, we use a jig head! Go Kenta Kimura for hover strolling!
👍🍻
One of the biggest overlooked secrets to this rig is everyone over fishes it.
When you watch spawning smelt preparing in the dark, a single tail kick drives the smelt 1.5ft then they suspend like a stick.
Basically, paddling baits automatically over apply action .
Paddle tails will help slow the bait, but you cant control the paddling.
Straight tails with tiny "pops" is the only way to truely mimic smelt.
Not to mention the power of dead sticked smelt presentations can end up with your buddy losing the rod right outa his hands lol.
This style works great for those of us that beat the bank. Get the Frish.
Frish is dope!
8:49 - Midst is short for Midstrolling; in case you did not know this
What is the name of the soft plastic
Ive done this with my swimbaits many times didnt know it was a big deal lol
I do this with a Ned head jig.
It’s called “MIDO SUTO” (mid strolling) rig over there
You dojt have stock of the issei liar minnow
People have been fishing curly tails on ball head jigs for decades. It's most people's first soft plastic lure for panfish. This isn't anything new
I'm sure VMC is going to come out with a $10 box of leadheads called "biwa" jigs though. No, eagle claw certainly doesn't have the same thing for $2 a dozen
Smelt or as we call them wakasagi lol that’s how you know you’re a real Jdm tackle nerd
Definitely not a unknown technique anymore - look what you've done!!!!
This is the Richard gene the fishing machine rig..
Lol for real, check his his old vidz out
Yep!
A sport second to none.
So basically a crappie jig for bass?
Not even, it's just a crappie jig.
Was up guys
👊🍻
No more whiskers huh?
It an on and off relationship
They never have anything in stock
Seems like a lot of explanation for something that's been used for decades?
This effective here our place, but we do not have the name, just jighead+T-tail, only we apply this more finesse way. Over 17 years, our bass fishing, tournament, recreation fishing, 95% is in shore fishing, off shore or open water fishing, is not effective, even USA pro have been here 20 person times in total.
Is anyone falling for this?
Absolutely not, shits getting out of hand really. I could make one hell of a pro staff salesman I know that
It pronounced Kite tech. LOOOONG I. Kietech
The rivers are full of bite sized bait right now....all day long.
This is nothing new....walleye guys have been doing this for years.
GUYS, I’m going Mr. Wonderful on you.. WTH are you even talking about?? You’ve put a swim bait in a ball head weedless jig and gave it some BS Japanese name. Give me a break?? Hey I’ve got 3 baits I bet you’ve never heard of. One is called a goochitoochihoochi rig. You ready?? It’s a Russian bait. Russians really know how to bass fish. Small weight, tiny. It’s a hook, Gameakstu. Pronounced Game ah caught sue, with a live work on it. Yeah, it’s crazy. New rig. Give me a break dude, i don’t even know if I want to check the rest of your channel out after this. Sorry, but I had too. Total bs guys. I never even comment, never; and I had to leave one. Kiss my bass!
The hottest lure in Japan is literally the exact same lure used for decades on the coast, can be bought in every Walmart in the US, and only costs a couple dollars. JDM lures are just overpriced imitations of widely used rigs that target ignorant fishermen.
Calling that anything other than a swim bait is asinine.
Soooo?? What is new about this????? Cheap light weight jig head with 3 inch grub with trimmed tail? It's a grub . A $29 lightning by Berkeley. A ugly stick 🤣🤣🤣. Absolutely completely unnecessary video.
