    Great video as always Matt and amazing learnings for newbies like me! I've been really curious - do you feel the sub-optimal location for 3.5 speakers in the doors could be compensated by adding another 3.5 utopia M as the center channel with separate amp? I'm thinking of doing some modifications in my X7 and trying to stick with original speaker placements. Thank you!

    Wow. One heck of a clean install. I have the same x7 m50i with the B&W sound system. What does an upgrade like this cost???
    I plan on just running a LC2 Pro with a R2-1200X1 amp and a JL Audio 10TW3 sub. But might use my P312 shallow prefab box. Both boxes fit great under the lid. Not sure which will sound the best.

    • @popalock85
      @popalock85 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I've never seen mention of price in any of his videos. I guess if you have to ask, you can't afford. I got a quote from car toys for the install of the 12TW3 pre loaded box, with all other associated JL products for a sub only install, and they were wanting $4K. Based on my only baseline, this looks like a $15K install...😢

    Hi, all your installation are really great and I love them. Actually i need some clarification from you, actually I’m using my iPhone as my source and I’m running digital. I got SMSL PO100pro and connected my iPhone through otg cable to SMSL input and i took out optical out directly to the dsp.3. What to know whether this is a good option to go with for digital source.

    • @Darronsanderson

      Analog is much better. Use a DAP wired to a DSP.

      @@Darronsanderson Hi, thanks for your reply. Actually i was using a DAP running Analog but after changing to digital the whole system comes alive and accuracy is increased the bass have become tighter and punchy, mids are more detailed and tweeters are sparkling, but with dap it was sounding like compressed. It was like day and night difference.

    The location of subs are so practical but is it sounds good too?

    • @therealmatty_s
      @therealmatty_s  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, of course. The wavelength of subwoofer frequencies are so long that direction really does not come into consideration. There are cases where the subwoofer can load into a certain part of the vehicle creating more energy. But because subwoofer are under a floor or a panel, is not going to muffle the sound as long as there is adequate air movement. The biggest things are to not have resonance, which in turn would locate the subwoofer.

    Hey man do you know the Helix or Mosconi DSP"s can do automatic source switching between two DIGITAL sources?
    My project is gonna have the Teyes cc3 2k as my main source (bluetooth calls, navigation, amfm rado, basic music). This would be fed to the DSP via Optical connection
    Next would be my Aux source, a Fiio DAP. This would be used for critical listening, highest playback quality possible. Connected to the DSP using Coaxial.
    Thw reason I am hoping to do automatic switxhing between the 2 digital sources, is beacsue I can control the Fiio playback from the Teyes screen using the Fiio Link app! This will let me keep the Fiio hidden away and control it on my screen or with my steering wheel controls.
    It would be perfect if i am able to be listening to the Fiio Coaxial source but have the Teyes Optical source switch on whenever a phonecall or navigation prompt comes in. Then switch back over to the Fiio after.
    Thanks³

    • @therealmatty_s
      @therealmatty_s  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes I understand you can do auto switching. With 3 different sources it becomes confusing for most customers. Also you have different EQ settings from the OEM Radio to an aftermarket source. And yes, you can adjust the input EQ to compensate, but it just becomes very messy. It is very easy for each customer to equate a certain preset with a certain source.

    • @chokboywonda
      @chokboywonda Před 7 měsíci

      Have you tried the Fiio link app? I was not impressed with it at all even just linking it with my phone. Not sure what it is like on the Teyes you have but I just ended up using the Fiio M11 and ditched the link app.
      The auto switching is great on the helix 👍

    Always great installations. I would say that location for the conductor is not the best. I had mine in the same location in my truck and it was almost dangerous to try and change settings or adjust volume while driving. Had to custom make a housing for it in the center console. Im sure location in this car made it difficult to put anywhere else. If owner doesnt like to mess around too much with it, should be fine tho.

    • @therealmatty_s
      @therealmatty_s  Před 7 měsíci +2

      It was there or the headliner. And we chose the easier to replace option. Based on the dash design, nothing in the console was feasible. Not even a way to get creative. This car was a challenge for space with everything. Even in the spot we put it, it will still difficult.

    • @canillocanillo3371
      @canillocanillo3371 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@therealmatty_s I fully understand. It was a lot of work for me to find a spot in the center console and the look is not as seamless ( factory) as I would like it to be. Based on your installs I can tell if there was a better spot you would have done it for sure.

  • @luxtentronik9221
    @luxtentronik9221 Před 7 měsíci

    Hi Matt why do you keep saying it's best to connect a Fiio or Astell kern DAP to the analog output? to a Dsp. From what I know, the less audio conversations the better, right?

    • @therealmatty_s
      @therealmatty_s  Před 7 měsíci +1

      There are quite a few reasons here. I think the biggest reason comes down to file format of your music. If you have DSD files, no aftermarket DSP will process that. By going digital out, you are using the DACs of the DSP and not the player.
      There are only a few DSPs that process above 24/96. Therefore, now you need to be extremely selective of the audio files you can play on your device. By going analog out (line out mode), you can play any file that the device supports.
      I use to go digital out exclusively until I did a system for a sound engineer and he insisted I did an analog input. (He also had a balanced input with XLRs with a conversion piece.)
      When I did the A/B Comparisons of analog vs digital using the same files and same players, I was very surprised. There was additional width and depth (sense of space) going analog out using the DACs of the player vs digital in.
      This is not the case for all players as I have AB compared quite a few. But for the flagship Astell (SP1000, SP2000, SP3000) it was pretty obvious.

    Lovely install. My only suggestion is to use spotless LED strips for the display panels.

    • @therealmatty_s
      @therealmatty_s  Před 7 měsíci +2

      100% agree. We originally use a matching bright white led cobb light was spotless. (As seen in the thumbnail picture). The client wanted RGB and last minute has to swap out the cobb lights with regular non cobb RGB lights. Most RGB cobb lights run off 24v and need a converter. We didnt have anything like that in the amount of time to swap the lights, so we just stuck with the standard RGB LED.

      That’s totally true. A shit audio input will sound equally shit on your speakers. A good audio input will negate the input side but if you don’t have a perfectly linear input to output conversion than you hear a completely different sound. What you shouldn’t forget too is the difference a powerful system can deliver compared to headphones. It is a complete difference when you can just hear music vs hearing and feeling music.
