You people are so full of nonsense. What you're hearing wasn't even from the show taping itself, it was recorded during rehearsal. If he actually didn't know it was being used, they could have started again from the top. It was used because they don't have the guts to perform an actual live performance for television. I'm also assuming the instrumentation included a pre-recorded backing track.

What a load of crap. Stop making apologies and excuses for that guy. The album version used computer-altered vocals, too. Was he sick during the studio sessions, too? Just stop it. The bottom line is it's preposterous to analyze his vocals while performing this song, his vocal performance is 100-percent computer automation. Pick a different song using his vocals, one that hasn't been processed by technology like a microwaved piece of rancid meat. Although I get the sense finding one would be extremely challenging to locate.

I was just wondering that point today and there was your video in my feed! When he sings Sound of Silence he is so animated and present. Lots of expression and power in the right places, lots of variation. But when he talks in comparison, to me it is almost a different person. He sounds relaxed and even, almost too chilled, very gentle and unconcerned. I was expecting some kind of dynamic when he spoke, something that sits me up to listen in the right places. His speaking voice seems so disconnected from his singing presence. Even when he introduces himself at the beginning of his talks its just completely so nonchalant and unassuming. Leaves me wanting that "I am David Draiman and...." that sits me up and says "have I got your interest and attention?" I guess that is because of the hit his cover gives with such rich perfection and variations and animation, leaves one an addict for more. That being said the contrast of performance and person helps not to stereotype the "person with the actor". He seems like a really nice person, calm, kind, thoughtful, intelligent and somewhat detached in a healthy way. Bit like a Buddha Draiman. The contrast blows my mind as much as his cover song. 🙃😄

It sounds like he likes the higher part of his range (high baritone) and he needs to be careful if he moves down the scale. Like I said in another comment I think the arrangement of "Silence" was terrible and now I feel sure that if he sang it in a better key, maybe d minor, without the useless octave shift, he would do a great job.

David was not feeling well on the day of this performance. Auto-tune may have been used for that reason.

Autotune is confused by vibrato, reads it as getting pitching, when it is not

David had a cold and fever and suffers from sinusitis..he has perfect pitch and was dismayed when auto tune from the studio was applied. He had formal training for a Cantor ..his great grandfather and father were cantors but he chose not to pursue it

Yes, he and his brother did have lessons - but if your spirit isn’t in it, you can NEVER touch the entire world - only yourself! You don’t exactly think that you are less than worthy of entertaining family do you???
This man can touch your soul much like Simon and Garfunkel
They touched my soul always - even before my teens
Don’t criticize unless you wrote the song, perform it yourself (I believe you said no one liked it.
Honey the rest of us have loved Simon and Garfunkel since the beginning. And yes, even Paul Simon complimented David and said he thought it was the best EVER!

Yeah it was run through AT post production and he was pissed when he found out, he doesn't need it. But yeah he had the flu, running a fever during this. Band was worried he might pass out but he got through it quite well. People who were there and then saw this said the actual live performance had even more character and if anything the AT dulled it, which is crazy.

It was a rough night for David, he had a head cold, missed a lyric and the sound engineer for the Conan Show applied melodyne or autotune in post. To say David was upset about that would be an understatement.

What lyric did he miss? It's impressive that even with all those distractions, he pulled off a masterful performance.

He did not miss a lyric. I am almost 59 years old and have heard this song thousands of times since I was a small child. He had the flu that night and was really sick. He was amazing as he always is.

    • @silversong4VR

@@EntityofElegant sadly, all it takes is for the sound engineer and producer to "think" he missed a lyric and jump on the auto-tune.

And you actually believe that, Maddog? Neither a band's vocalist who's a band member nor the band's manager would ever approve a TV show's employee to do that. They applied Auto-Tune during his live singing. It was controlled through a rackmount by a crew member of the band, and Draiman was singing along to a guide vocal track being played through his earpiece.
