Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the surprise reaction! Next up is still The Martian and Ice Age!
Martian is 🙂🙂🙂
Oh jeez this film breaks my heart every time 😭 still an incredible movie though ❤
I'd really recommend you watch the original Homeward Bound movie from 1963. I find this remake to be extremely dumbed down.
Thanks for reacting to this homeward bound the incredible journey is my favorite Disney movie
Ice Age, one of my childhood classics. Me and movies go way back! 😇
Me, knowing Nick is going to cry a lot in this one: I'm here for you
We’re all here for him
this is one of the first movies to make me cry. Still love it and can only watch under certain circumstances now. Still try to once a year
“This is gonna be a fun family movie”
“Oh Nick… oh Nick, I’ll be here for a hug if you need one buddy.”
The shots they got with these animals is actually quite astonishing.
Yeah, now that I’m watching it with an adult brain and after reading this comment I’m really curious how many of these shots were intentional and how many were just from this filming two dogs and a cat all day and adding narration 😂 🧐
@@moosessurus8172 What I'm wondering is how much of it qualifies as animal abuse
@@PenneySounds a quick google search will show you there was no animal abuse involved. They actually kept very detailed interactions with the animals that are still easily accessible and most shots were many videos quick spliced together. The porcupine scene for example was done with a real porcupine that released quills into a fake dog (this does not hurt the porcupine and they often shed quills like other needles and fur) and the quills you see on chance were rubber and spirit gum.
@@so...thathappened4170 I mean, there was a real cat struggling to keep its head above water in one scene
@@PenneySounds that scene was done with not one cat but several very trained cats who could swim perfectly fine with harnesses on and trainers right next to them, a few fake cats, and a mechanical cat. The real cats were not in rapids but a very shallow stream or a warm pool (depending on the cut) each cat was only in the water for less than 8 seconds. So there actually wasn’t a real cat struggling to survive and keep her head above the water.
Edit: I thought I should add that my source is the American Humane Hollywood. These are the guys who are in charge of making sure movies are not having animal cruelty and make sure they go to court if there is. They are the reason for the “no animals were harmed” stamp of approval.
How to make me cry in one word: "Peter"
"Oh Peter, I worried about you, so!" 😭😭😭
EVERY time with me.
I heard that the animal actors bonded so much during production that the reunion scene of them running towards eachother was completely genuine.
I can't watch the ending without crying. And I've seen this movie over a dozen times. This movie came out when I was a kid
Perfect pacing, music, and character interactions are what make that scene *chef’s kiss*
@@sweetcinnamonpnchkin I'm right here with you.
I cry at the end of this movie. Every time, without fail.
I'm kind of in awe of Don Ameche's performance in this film. A legendary actor who knew full well he didn't have much time left, doing what he could well have viewed as a cheap paycheck role beneath his dignity (which is certainly how Sally Field saw it, but fortunately this perfectly fits her character), he instead fully embraced it and delivers a highly poignant and noble performance which ended his career on a real high note.
The funny thing about Sally Field is while she might not have liked the role of Sassy it is probably the first role you ever heard her voice as a kid, and it's how I remembered who she was seeing her in other movies where she wasn't behind a microphone, so while it may not have been a role she particularly wanted it did help people grow up and recognize her name when they got older and watched live-action movies with acting roles in them.
Yeah, his final performance here and easily one of his best.
@@van8ryan He did a great job as Shadow.
@@guardiansoulblade2673 Exactly. I remember the first time I watched Mrs. Doubtfire. When Miranda Hillard first started speaking I was like "Oh my God, that's Sassy!"
@@magic8ball1982 That was the first live-action movie I saw her in without her voice acting in it.
Oh man, here we go. I'm not a sensitive dude, but this one brought a little moisture to my eyes back when I saw it. (I'd read the book, The Incredible Journey, before seeing the movie too).
There is a book?? Oh, i know what my next read is!
@@thanossnap4170 The book is good but there are some things different from the movie.
There is even a sequel titled Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco, taking place 2 years after the last film.
Def a recommend terrific sequel
Plan on watching it!
Please react to seriously amazing movie's they were my childhood favorite
And it’s actually really good!
Unlike other sequels that have the reputation of being bad, this sequel is actually quite good. Definitely gave me a few laughs as a child. Oh who am I kidding, they still do.
Holy shit I think this is the first Homeward Bound reaction I've ever seen at all. Very excited.
The scene with Sassy and the river made me bawl my eyes out as a kid and i remember running to my mom crying about it. She had to keep telling me it was just a movie.
I still can't watch this movie without crying and I am 32 now!
Edit: I avoided watching this since I was a teen, and I cried in all the same parts.
Same it still does for me :(
Yup, will always be traumatic….
Ditto! I saw the notification and said "Well, I better go get the tissues." Haha
Ur not the only one
I’m the same exact way! 23 now
One of the things I really love about this movie is how much the dogs' tails wag during their scenes. They have no idea they're in a movie but they're having fun because of their handlers/trainers.
Yes!! Nowadays they can digitally make the tail befitting to what the character’s supposed to be feeling but there’s a strange charm to seeing it unaltered like this.
The third act of this movie gets me emotional every single time... And Chance is voiced by Micheal J. Fox, the guy who was Marty Mcfly in the Back to the Future trilogy.
Thanks for letting me know, was wondering what he was from.
@@nickflix8657 Glad to help, my man. And sassy was voiced by Sally Field, the mom from Mrs. Doubtfire.
@@nickflix8657 just curious have you watched Hachi a dogs tale?
@@ayanamiayachanJ you really want nick to cry? My heart breaks listening to the soundtrack of hachi
@@fantasydotcom excuse my language but the first time I watched Hachi a dogs tale I cried like a little bitch
Sassy was voiced by Sally Field. She's one of those actors/actresses that everyone knows, even if you don't know her name. She was Aunt May in the Spiderman with Andrew Garfield.
she was also Forrest Gump's mom in Forrest Gump, and the mom in Mrs Doubtfire.
& Abraham Lincoln's wife in Lincoln.
She sounds like rich rich mom
The movie
Which he recently saw... good thinking
This is one of my fav movies. Being a 90's kid I grew up with this movie
Yes, I loved this movie as a kid!
Yes but this and the sequel were 80s movies.
Shadow “I was so worried about you” ….even if I hold it together for the entire film that never fails to get me. The wise old dog was worried about his human, it’s a beautiful moment. Perfect reaction choice thanks for doing this one.
2:16 Sassy is voiced by Sally Field. She was Miranda (the mom) in Mrs. Doubtfire 😁
She's also Forrest Gump's mother!
Dogs can legit do this too! As I understand, there was actually a collie in the 1950s that traveled 3000 miles across America to get back to his family. 💖 Their instinct and intellect is I think more than even we can figure! ☺️
This movie is based on a book "The Legendary Journey" where this same event happened: 2 dogs and 1 cat made it back home, and they were traveling through the Canadian Wilderness.
This movie still gets me. When he comes limping over that hill...and the music...and then they run to each other, I can't 🤧
The last ten minutes of this movie had me in tears
I still bawl my eyes out everytime i watch it and i've seen it countless times
Every time. Just a mess. I showed it to my daughter, and we both cried so hard.
This movie 😭😭😭 The sequel is fun too- San Francisco looked so different in the 90s.
Practically like another planet from what it is now
Yes the sequel is so fun!
It's hard to envision a San Francisco where you don't have to dodge human poop and used needles on every sidewalk
@@superbooster2636 And they've allowed it to happen! The excuses that it's the future so a bunch of stuff has been built up yet they've allowed historical neighborhoods to be completely torn down and turned into condos in the name of needing more housing. To me if a place is full of place is full and it doesn't make housing any more affordable if you tear down single-family homes and replace them with multi-million dollar buildings that push up the price of real estate in the whole area.
Here in Seattle for example they want to end single family zoning so they can build condos anywhere they want
@@RabidNemo It’s the damn NIMBYs who force out affordable housing. Can’t block the sun for old Karen!
Man when I was a kid... that scene with Shadow really tore me up. I had an old Labrador that reminded me of shadow so much and it was so emotional.
Cats and dogs can coexist and even be friends. My own are cool with each other.
I have two cats and two dogs, and they adore each other. I often joke that they could do a recast of this movie using them and include a bonus cat LOL
My cat's try to rub their faces on my dog but she's such a wuss she runs from them.
@@theirishslyeyes you just gotta know how to handle it, and not separate them and cause tension :))
Yeah one of my parents old dogs used to mother there cats, she used to wash them and snuggle up with them at night. We always used to joke that she was a dog who thought she was a cat lol.
Don Ameche plays Shadow
Michael J. Fox plays Chance
Sally Field plays Sassy.
AHHHH! MY LITERAL CHILDHOOD! I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW THIS IN MY SUBS! YAS! I LOOOOVED THIS MOVIE AS A KID! THANK YOU FOR THIS! ❤
The ending ALWAYS BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES. 🥺😭😭
Same 😭 it's my favorite
Ditto
Hey Homeward Bound made me cry as a kid and Hedwig made me cry as a teenager. Now I cry to both as an adult. 😋
This is actually a remake of an older Disney film called the incredible journey from 1963 but the animals don't speak in that one
I think I prefer to give the animals voices. It really humanizes them. Helps the audience connect with them

Yeah, I saw this in the 1960's. 😊
You might want to watch the sequel, Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco. I loved these movies so much as a kid. An instant classic.
Ah, the nostalgia! We had this on VHS and I watched it dozens of times as a kid.
Also I have a dog and a cat (he is my user pic) and they are best friends.
OHHHH I was such an intense dog kid, this movie was played and replayed sooo much. ❤️ And I just realized Shadow is just......the total embodiment of “we don’t deserve dogs”, ugh. 😭💖
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve cried to this movie lol
Every single time.
when sassy went down the waterfall mannn
this movie was such a staple in my childhood, don't remember how many times my siblings and I watched this.
Shadow is my favorite pet in any movie. Just shows how loyal and unconditional love they share. Makes me love my own dog even more
This movie is best when playing near thanksgiving just the way it feels to me personally
It's a late fall/winter type of movie for me.
@@katwebbxo I'm seasonal with movies too lol :D
Yes especially with the Thanksgiving ending… “TURKEY!!!!! TurkeyTurkeyTurkey”😌
My favorite movie when I was little. This, Journey of Natty Gann, White Fang, and E.T. Just on a loop.
Oh my!!! I LOVE natty Gann!!!!
17:21 Shadow is a Golden Retriever - one of the breeds designed specially FOR water! 😄 Specifically retrieving water fowl for hunters. Breeds like that and poodles are most alive chasing something in the water!
Oh, man. If you wanted a movie that was gonna bring the tears... boy did you pick a winner.
I was in love with this film as a kid so a few years ago I had to know how the animals on set were treated after learning how many animals died on the set of Milo & Otis. Thankfully this film has really well documented accounts of almost every scene, stunt, and scare the animals go through in the movie. These actors were cared for above and beyond the standard of care at the time, and I was so happy to learn that the animals were treated humanly and that most of what we see is movie magic! Just thought I'd help ease someone else mind if they were wondering! also, pretty shocked this film got chosen! its usually forgotten about!!
THIS MOVIE WAS MY CHILDHOOD. I would watch it almost every weekend on VHS, i knew the quotes by heart. Cried from nostalgia during the reaction, i miss those kind of family movies.
7 minutes in and I'm already cryING UGH
Oh man, one of my absolute favorites as a kid. Cry every single time. I even had a Shadow of my own!
Shockingly, this is a remake of a movie based on a book.
This is the movie that can make me tear up every time without fail. Every. Single. Time. (Including this time).
So did not expect this reaction. But not complaining at all☺️
Nick: I really connect with Shadow!
Me: oh no...this isn gonna end well.
This was a favorite of mine growing up. I haven't seen it in YEARS! I'm watching your reaction as soon as I get off work. 😁
Shadow in the mud was scarring as a child. I still remember it breaking my 4 year old heart.
Fun fact: the scene where the Chance and Shadow ran to Sassy, the trainers didn’t even need to do anything to make them do that. The dogs and cat actually were really close and did that on their own!
Haven’t seen this film for years and it still gets me. My face was streaming by the end.
I knew we were gonna suffer but boy, I'm so in here for this (and every single movie that I know you're gonna cry but still I watch)
Heart warming to watch you see this movie. That ending always leaves me in tears. Never made it through without crying!
Cats and dogs are really only "enemies" in cartoons.
Dogs do show natural aggression towards cats and vice versa but that’s just because they are naturally distrustful of anything new.
OH MY GOD SOMEONE WATCHED HOMEWARD BOUND! You made me scream when I saw the thumbnail. I have been genuinely dying for this. This was absolutely a staple of my childhood and never fails to make me cry. This is the first movie soundtrack I ever bought in a record store around 1995. The music alone is some of the finest of the '90s I think. That main theme still rips my heart out to this day and I'm 35 years old
Nick: mentions watching a bunch of depressing dog movies,
Also Nick: Doesn't mention "Where the Red Fern Grows"
Oh… depressing is an understatement. Ol’ Dan and Little Ann 🐕 🐕
Hey, I like Cat's Eye too Nick. Nobody says it's their favorite, glad you appreciate it.
Glad i'm no the only one!
@@nickflix8657 That movie made me afraid of cats because I saw it when I was little. They steal your breath! Still don't really like them a lot, but I'm allergic. However, the last apartment I was at had a lot of strays hanging around. They liked me.
Sassy is voiced by Sally Field, the mom from Mrs. Doubtfire
Love this movie so much! Watched it dozens of times as a kid.
"You've learned everything you need, Chance...Now all you have to learn is how to say good-bye."
This has to be one of the hardest lines in all of cinema.
Fun fact about how hot dogs got their name: they used to be called spicy dachshunds. Then a cartoon artist saw this and decided to make a comic about them, but he didn't know how to spell dachshund, so he just called them hot dogs.
Whoa, I never knew that! 😱😍
That's awesome lol.
I saw this posted and thought: “Oh my god yay!!” Immediately followed by “Oh god no!!” I don’t think I’ve ever not cried at this movie.
I love this movie so much. It’s an absolute classic. Watched it so many times as a kid. It always makes me cry when sassy goes over the waterfall, the little girl lost in the woods and shadow falling down the hole along with the ending of course.
damn i cried, i never cried with this movie when i was a kid and i watched a lot so i knew whats was going to happen. its strange, i didn't know i would remember so much about it, yet i still cried at the end. I think i was a insensitive kid so im crying in all these movies just now hasjkdhkjsahdjkaw
Life experience will do that 🥺
This is actually the only film that made me cry as a kid, I have a huge soft spot for golden retrievers.
This and the 2nd one are still two of my favorite movies. I rewatch them every couple of years. Hope you react to the 2nd one as well. 💕
I hope you watch Homeward Bound 2! Both those movies (as well as the Land Before Time movies) were a huge part of my childhood.
Every single word Shadow says in this movie makes my eyes water. Shadow is an automatic eyeball-wash button
It's actually a remake of a 1967 Disney movie of the same name.
The original was one of my favorites growing up, this remake was very good also
@@tessesmom too much abuse in the first one to watch it. 😔
I grew up on this movie and the sequel, love them both - despite the trauma vibes they keep going for. I lose it every time at the river scene in this one, its the point at which you realise they're not messing around any more.
Glad to see it getting some love some years later, and glad someone else noticed the brilliant soundtrack as well!
Watched this movie when I was a kid, loved it back then and still love it now.
Ah, I love this movie. The first ever dog I had i names him Shadow. He was a golden retriever pit bull mix. And he was a very loyal and loving dog always by my side. This movie always makes me think of him and I haven't seen it in years so this was a treat to see you react to.
I find this very amusing, as I just saw this movie on DVD yesterday when going shopping and was hit with a huge nostalgia bomb, as I used to watch this movie on VHS as a kid. I *had* to pick it up, and it came with the sequel as well.
I've never clicked on a video so fast in my life! this is still is one of my favorite movies to this day, so happy to see you react to it
This is one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time and the scene at the end when Peter and Shadow reunite is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. I love the soundtrack in this movie, too.
“Nothing bad’s gonna happen to them”
Oh, you sweet summer child
My parents had a dog named Scooter when I was born so when we got a male cat I named him after Chance and when we got a female dog I named her after Shadow. All three of them were friends just like the animals in this movie. I miss them. 💖 One of these days I'll name a cat after Sassy I'm sure lol.
I can't remember, but I think my brother and sister watched this film a long time ago, after I was born.
oh my god, I watched this sooo many times as a kid, the classic music, ouch my soul, hehe - thank you for this Nick! 😺🥰
Have you seen 'Hachi: A dog's tale?' if not then I'd highly recommend it if you like dog movies.
Anyway only 9mins in to the video and as always, it's great. Absolutely loved watching this film with my Granddad when I was younger.
Haven't seen it yet, but plan on it!
greyfriars bobby (1961) is another good true dog story film you should watch
also lassie come home (1943) not a true story this time but still a great movie
Do you want to make me cry?
@@nickflix8657 Oh god, Hachi left me bawling twice in one viewing.
This movie is one of my favorite movies. It's a classic. I love Sassy's sassy comments. I love Chance's goofiness, and Shadows a true Champ... So much wisedom in that dog. This whole movie is a masterpiece. Right on down to the humor. I can honestly say I've watched this movie so many times that my family is board of this movie for the next ten lifetimes. As for me, I still watch it, and still love it.
Oh gawd, I'm bawling at just seeing how attached you're getting to Shadow at the start, knowing how it gets by the end - this movie was one of the first to emotionally break me as a kid when this came out
Michael J Fox rocked this voice role
This movie made me emotional as a kid and it does now as an adult, too. My family dog, Sherlock, lived to be 18 before he died, and seeing Shadow at the end of this reaction/the movie made me break down. Old dogs are so loyal and loving and gentle. There's a Jewish prayer that thanks God for making dogs and I'm not super religious, but it's one of the prayers I do pray from time to time. I'm glad you got to watch this movie; it really touches the heart, in a good way.
I used to bring this to school on movie day! We kept choosing it for months, everyone had it memorized .
Old Yeller 😭
It is a Disney film from 1957 based on a children's novel written by Fred Gibson.
The dog actor Spike from Old Yeller played in a film "The Silent Call" from 1961. It has same story as "The Incredible Journey".
A must to see. 2019 the film was selected for preservation into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
I actually new the actual owner of Shadow when I was little. He was the sweetest dog I knew. The owner had a kennel to keep your dogs at while on vacation.
this reminds me of my Sebastian, a golden...my sweepy black terrier and sissy who was a siamese...LOVE this movie...
I love your reactions, they just seem genuine. And this movie was one of my favorites as a kid, and I cry more now since my cat I grew up with is gone. Pets are really such a privilege. This movie is nostalgia about the best times you have growing up, just spending time with your pets, and also imagining they'd cross the country to find you lol
the first time i saw this movie i was probably 4 and i remember watching it a lot. i got my cat when i was 5. she’s 17 now and about a week ago we almost lost her due to some health issues. this movie is certainly hitting harder than it ever has. i’ve lost my share of pets throughout the years but i don’t remember what life is like without her. but even if she were to pass right now, at least i got a lot of great years with her. it really is a privilege... not just having a pet but a real companion
@@quirkypurple3 I had my cat for 14 years, and also got her when I was 5, and losing her was one of the most painful experiences. I used to sing her to sleep, and I miss her, but I am very glad I even got to meet her. She was so smart and could respond to questions, and I think part of that is because we got to have her for so long. If you ever want to talk about your cat, let me know. They really are amazing
The voices of the dogs are
Shadow: Don Ameche Who played one of the Duke brothers in Trading Places But sadly passed away later that same year this movie was released.
Chance: Michael J Fox also known as Marty McFly from back to the future.
Sassy: Sally Field From Smokey and the bandit and the mother from Mrs. Doubtfire.
I watched this when I was 3 & to this day I still believe animals can talk to each other
I was holding up so well until the moment Sassy was reunited with the dogs and just calls to them all "My boys! I thought I lost you forever!" These three are just so wonderful together.
And of course the scene when Shadow comes limping up to the family just ugh my heart 😩 but it's happy and now I'm a mess.
Thanks for reaching to this. One of the biggest films of my childhood.
There aren't a lot of classic animated dog movies around. Lady and the Tramp, The Fox and the Hound, All Dogs Go To Heaven, maybe Fluppies if anyone remembers that...
Its always good to see you Nick! Loveeee this movie, really touches your heart❤
This movie is the reason, I've never been able to have a guy call me honey. Someone tried in Jr. High and I busted out laughing because all I could see was Chance licking Saasy's face saying, "Morning Honey."
I LOVE that they don't make the animals' mouths move. We all know these are the conversations our actual pets have! I've watched this movie since childhood & as a kid I knew the end was emotional but didn't cry. Ever since my cat passed away after 19 amazing years with us (& she was OUR Shadow) I can't watch this movie without sobbing. My heart is with all of you and all our 'Shadows!'
I absolutely love this movie and always wanted a dog like Shadow when I was a kid and hope to one day! The soundtrack was so good and they did so well with the intense scenes, especially with the river and Mountain Lion scenes!
I only came across this video a few days ago so thank you so much for bringing me one of my favourite childhood films!
OMG what a sweet surprise!!! Another movie I loved so much as a kid 😭
This movie is the reason i have separation anxiety about my pets
