I didn't want to be this guy, but "Force Majeure" is just such a great movie and besides JLD and Will Ferrell, there seems to be no reason for this remake to exist.
Come on how many movies were from other countries? It’s been happening for a long time it’s still enjoyable. I like the original and this version. I watched both versions of death at a funeral, both versions of the office. Truth is most people haven’t heard of Force Majeure and would have never seen it. This gave people a chance to watch a version of it that was still delightful. So yeah just don’t be that guy.

Visuals For You Definitely check it out. It’s subtle and beautifully Scandinavian and not nearly as heavy handed as this film appears to be. Will Ferrell is more of a loud slapstick kind of guy, so that’s kind of what you get.

Doug Taylor The point of the trailer is to sell me, you, and others on seeing this movie. Clearly it has failed. I’m not gonna see it when the trailer indicates quite clearly how this knock-off / remake has ruined the legacy of a wonderful Swedish movie. I’m not going to just go see it to prove my initial thoughts based on the trailer right. I’m gonna pass, and if I do see it, I’ll torrent it from some place online. Obviously.

Uh, I hate to say it. But for those who’ve seen the movie this is a remake of, Force Majeure, you know the tone of this trailer is completely wrong. The original movie was an emotionally intense film that asked some serious questions about people and how they handle themselves in horrific situations. This movie looks like it’s taking that premise and turns it into a goofy comedy or something, with only some inklings of what the original movie was about. I hope this isn’t what the actual movie is like though.

@benjovi55 -- And both of them are absolutely capable of reinvigorating the Force Majeure template without the slapstick. I'm not as angry as I am sad at the lost opportunity. Once in a great while I see an American remake where the filmmakers embrace the original, but more often than not, it seems like someone who didn't understand the original and missed all its charm and nuance, bumbled a cheap copy.

Despite all of the bad reviews, and seeing the original film. I found this movie very enjoyable. You just need to realize what you’re walking into. A drama, not a comedy. However I liked it

@Markus Olofsson I'm aware it's a remake. Force Majeure has been on my watchlist since I saw Ostlund's other film The Square two years ago. I'll obviously watch the original before this, but I have to see this in theatres and support these guys. I saw both The Way Way Back and The Descendants at a very important time in my life.

I now realize that video clip I saw on IG was probably footage from this movie and not an actual avalanche 🤦♂️😂
if you notice a large blast wave from the pipe in the grounded started it. They are triggered multiple times a year to keep a real big one from starting naturally. The one in this film was in a documentary also about how those cannons work so its been filmed a lot.

I always chalk this up to someone seeing PROFITABILITY in making an English-language version for Americans who don't want to or can't READ subtitles.
I was shocked when I realized that this was a remake. But the beginning have it all away. Sad they remade it. Force Majeure was the original.

This is an incredible movie. Some people are uncomfortable with silence and watching a movie about real life issues. We should celebrate the normal and realize how beautiful it is.

We watched this tonight because it was on a list of recommended comedies. I chuckled only once during the entire movie. It's another one of those films with a couple of veteran actors playing some rich-ass people. Not worth the time unless you're bedridden and bored.

Was made in Kaunertal -Österreich. Julia Dreyfuss was stunned that in Austria mixed Sauna is the rule and there just Ladies nights or Men only on few days. She was rather shock when naked men enter the Sauna.

My wife was saving movies for us to watch on the DVR. She said this one had Will Ferrell in it. I replied that not all his movies are funny. This would fit quite well on the not funny list. Suffice to say, it's mostly an hour and a half of not liking anyone in the movie with a lot of uncomfortable moments. Fortunately, we eventually bailed and I didn't have to endure this painful excuse for a movie.
I never thought he is funny. Nothing changed.
