this idea of a bunch of apaches doing this has to be super scary for any enemy , what a formidable machine the 64 is 🚁
Not to mention that wood is transparent to radar so being in a forest will not help…
Scary for everyone except for Iraqi farmers with ww2 era small arms lol
This is AMAZING! Flying the DCS Apache with a real-life experienced Apache pilot who is a great teacher! Thank you so much, Casmo! I know these videos take a lot of time and effort putting together - we really appreciate it! Looking forward to the continued expansion and success of your podcast/ channel!
Yes, now we're talkin. Brute force fire and forget. Jane's Longbow intensifies lol.
Happy Jane’s Longbow noises. I loved that sim. Painting an entire convoy with pop-up FCR and then just letting loose was soooo rewarding. Just pop back up when your impact timer is getting short to repaint in case they maneuvered, and grab your popcorn.
Meanwhile, they’re left wondering how the mountains (European theater) shot them.
Honestly, it felt a lot like cheating.
I still get the heeby-jeebies about Frogfoots though. Those suckers could come out of nowhere, it felt like.
And ZSUs…(shudder)…so many bullets…
@@scionofdorn9101 Haha, back then I had bounties placed on all ADUs lol.
The only sad thing is that DCS - like most games - has no concept of suppression, fear, or fleeing - at best you can set units to stop when fired upon, wow guys, you made it easier to kill you. Ground AI needs serious work. But - great video!
Thank you Casmo!!! Huge appreciated. Your tips and tutorials for the upcoming OH-58 are going to be something!
This is awesome, can’t wait for more, especially some hunter killer missions mixed in with other team members (Apaches/Kiowas) against armour/Air Defence units etc…
I went from airshows/Janes longbow 2, to fixing the apaches for the British army to watching you demonstrate how awesome they are.
Love the channel and interviews.
So, I made this BIG range on Tonopah dry lake. Lots of vehicles disposed in rows, West side western equipment, east side eastern equipment. In the middle, a big row of trucks separating the two. I use it to test various planes and weapons, testing weapons effectiveness and to keep my currency. Took the good ole '64 to a spin. FCR XMIT and then...only 4 targets. Tried it again, only 4 targets. I was fuming: "another ED scam, another unfinished product, the damn FCR does not work and bla, bla, bla..." Then, more calm later on, I watched a video by Daddy Wags. There he says that in the FCR page, on the upper right hand corner, the number of detected targets is displayed. I test it again and, voilá, 116 targets detected! The thing is that we don't have a zoom feature yet, so the radar shows the targets very much bundled together. I felt ashamed by my user erro. And I was amazed by the power of this thing. Apache with FCR is a beast, the F-15E of the rotary wings platforms.
RTFM as they say.
@@CasmoTV a case study on RTFM.
I will spend more time on your channel than the LCT and learn more. Good stuff. "I'm not interested in destroying every enemy." I said to the Master Gunner after my crappy job on the range, lol.
DCS is the best LCT
This is the reason Attack helos are the ultimate Tank Destroyers. Now imagine an entire Company of these birds employed how they're supposed to, that much Anti-Tank ordinance is enough to make entire Armour& Mechanized battalions scream for AA cover. Honestly what we developed to counter mass tank tactics is truely nightmare stuff if you don't have anything to counter it.
Yeah we saw that in Ukraine… hélos are so powerfull that lots of them were destroyed
Sweet Jesus, that's a lot of firepower!
A-10C eat your heart out
The surpression and retreat scripting from the moose library for dcs is really cool and not that difficult to use. It's much more satisfying having the enemy run than actually destroying everything 😂
Nice video! Thanks again. Would you please consider to chose some terrain other than flat desert to demonstrate maybe a bit of the masking, perhaps some tactical approach into battle position? Thank you.
Many other videos I have cover that. Gotta dig deep in the old ones.
If you getting into DCS helicopters and you're not watching Casmo's old videos, you're doing it wrong - there's a lot of basics about how scout and attack helicopters operate, and (first!) how the bloody things even fly.
apache videos from casmo are as always top notch of entertaining and informative for the dcs community
Literally just decided to start learning the FCR, perfect timing
Nice video! Thanks for sharing I'm going to try that now in some simple missions.
Imagine what one of these followed by 3 loyal wingman type rotary wing UAVs each also armed with hellfire-L's all guided by the radar on the lead Apache could do on a battlefield
You ate that enemy armor up.
Thanks Casmo. Another great Apache video. 🙂
finally, I was waiting for this feature from first early access
The apache is a beast, loved your kiowa side note though. I will buy it :D
“Do the Lord’s work” 😜
I just want them to button up the FCR for multicrew already! You can kinda get it to work for CPG if the pilot equips the FCR, gets it booted and running, then the CPG removes the FCR and then reequips it. But eventually they go out of sync anyway
Great video. 16 missiles are default loadout in DCS😁
Thanks nice video
Great video, as always! Regarding the Kiowa clearing the way for this to happen, couldn't the Apache do it as well or is it considered too big or "made for other things" ? Thanks!
Just all depends on the situation.
YEET!
Another great breakdown! Go Army Aviation! When the OH-58 comes out, are you going to provide a master class?
4 tutorials complete so far.
''A kiowa could do that 😏'' *hint hint nudge nudge*
I hope it doesn't take long for Kiowa's videos. I'm counting the days.
Another great video Casmo. Question, it possible to observe what the TADS/CPG is looking at as a pilot through the HMD?
Yes make it your ACQ source and you can see the cross hair.
Thanks a lot Casmo. P.S. I’m gonna buy some of your Apache tees from your site next month. That’ll really p**s off the UK’s left leaning woke population when I’m walking around wearing one of those 😂
A guy could even run a mixed load of radar and laser hellfires, and use the laser ones to pickle of remaining survivors :)
A guy could indeed.
I would be really curious about if and how one of these radar guided a/g missiles could differentiate between a functioning, and a destroyed target.
It doesn't. Radar return is a radar return. However, the system marks which targets were shot at, then send new missiles to other detected targets.
"DCA" :D
I finally need to find time for the PC surgery (4080S waiting for its service entry and I need to firmware flash my 2TB 980 Pro and then clone my 1TB one to it so I can swap them out to get free space for updating the whole thing and the new maps...) and get back into DCS...
If there's another aircraft coming in after, how do you make sure that the second aircraft doesn't fire on dead targets with the FCR? Does datalink cover this?
You don’t. Is just a mass of firepower
Kind of. You can send a BAM report to another Longbow via DL but it will simply tell them what and where you've fired at, not what you've killed.
Can you make a video on how to get to the top of a mountain and hover. I seem to do good at first. Then, the closer I get to the top, the slower I get and sometimes not make it. Afghanistan map is going to be murder for me. Apache and Kiowa if it's different. Thanks.
Simple; don’t hover at the top of mountains. Especially in Afghanistan.
Awesome but just one question: are you using rudders with real feedback?
No
@@CasmoTV Damn, I guess it's not surprising given you're an actual Apache pilot. I'm all over the place. I can get from point a to b and kill stuff but unlike the UH-1H it's a bumpy ride. 🙃
I have delicate feet
@@CasmoTV I have small feet but I digress
Hi Casmo, in which situation would you activate the Hellfires "2nd target inhibit" on the weapons page? Thx.
🤷🏻♂️ never used it.
Ok, thank you.
I'm guessing someone has already asked this, but why do all the missiles veer off to the left right after firing?
It's called Doppler beam sharpening iirc and it does this because flying sideways in relation to the target lets the radar sensor have a higher resolution picture of the ground by using the Doppler effect to interpolate the angle of the returns with higher precision than the true angle resolution of the antenna would allow.
check the "Doppler Beam Sharpening (DBS) " section of the ah64 manual it will explain why the missiles do that
What they said.
Hey there Casmo, have they implemented the LOBL yet. Will you do a tutorial if/when they have
It’s always been able to LOBL… not sure what you mean
@@CasmoTV apologies, did you do a tutorial
In real life would that second aircraft behind you still pick up the wrecks as radar contacts? Would you have to do some BDA and filtering, or does it have enough smarts to know the difference between an active and destroyed contact?
No it’s not that smart but it’s a law of averages.
Can the kiowa and apache systems talk to each other to share points, targets, etc?
Yes… with your voice.
what about the 100 autonomous drones that are deployed 8km in a defensive ring around the tank company that will swarm any helicopter trying to approach? pre drone tactics?
Did those exist in 2006? I mean I get what you’re saying but DCS is a sandbox where you can play out battles across history. So, obviously, that scenario doesn’t play into this one. 🤷🏻♂️
@@CasmoTV yep exactly, scary how quickly drones are changing everything. Suprised we ae not seeing them in DCS yet.
@nynphose military combat aviation will look dramatically different in the next few decades.
How realistic it is to carry 16 Hellfires? I don't see Ka-52's in Ukraine with 12, 16 or more Vikhr's onboard as a reference.
All depends. If the mission is attack a known enemy armor company like this; very realistic. If it’s just honor and look for trouble; probably not.
@@CasmoTV
Makes sense.
By the time you fired the last missile you were "very" close. Wouldn't you rather hover and fire all missiles from afar or do you need to keep on moving for the radar to get a better picture? Again, I compare that with what I see in Ukraine and Ka-52's fire missiles from insane long distances. One was about 14 or 15 km away!
@@nymerie don’t get too lost in the details.
One type of Hellfire ends in L the other ends in K - just a quick trick: you would think the Ls would be laser guided (because of the L) but they're not - it's the other way around. L = radar and K = laser. Just remember that trick and you will never get them mixed up.
Cool but a bit boring . LIke fish in a barrel. I though I was going to love the longbow. But this is a real turn off. At least with the lazer hellfires theres some skill involved. Ill stick with them.
Turns out warfare isn’t like call of duty. Color me shocked.
@@CasmoTV Perhaps you can help. I struggle with this view of an infallible god radar. It cant fail. It cant make mistakes.. This looks like the most gamey way to win Ive ever seen in a sim. lol. Im reluctant to believe that in a cluttered battlefield this system is as good as the game reports. If you know better from irl first hand Im genuinely happy to alter my view :)
the problem is that currently the FCR doesn't make any mistakes. FCR always knows everything. If you have line of sight to a unit the FCR will show it to you. It will perfectly ignore other objects. Not sure how realistic that is but at least we are closer to dcs AI "skills" now ;)
