You made it through it without saying "I am the greatest" , "TOMCATS" OR "GET SOME". You sir, have come a long way ;)
but did he have a pocket full of quarters?

Or gum
5:50 If you have a 2 stage trigger (e.g. Warthog HOTAS) you can map the Trigger OPEN to the first detent. That way when you fire it'll automatically open.
9:52 "And I'm gonna go ahead and WAS the gun." This is where you find in multiplayer that the pilot's left you with 10 rounds left :D Thanks for the video.
Instead of removing the trigger guard, it should be an option under special.
Ive recently got into the apache your videos are the best and most understandable at my pace
An excellent series of videos. Thanks so much Casmo.
Thanks!
"rolling in south to north, left in, right out" - that's when you know someone bout to die.
Yea, I agree with that guard trigger thing. At the very least a special option to "always open" so we can save a button xD.
Holy crap! It's like Christmas Morning!
My trackIR does the exact opposite. It does not stick to the center at all so I constantly have to recenter it. I'm not playing from a desk and that is part of the problem, but it should work well for the Apache. It makes choppers with fixed sights taxing sometimes though.
I recently watched The Longest Month here on youtube and one of the Apache Pilots made a reference to "wazing" his guns and always wondered what that meant until this video. Weapons Action Switch.
Very helpful info there!
So what was the reason that the auto range is changed back to manual after switching weapons and coming back to the gun? Seems to add a ton of workload for the pilot at least when playing without a human cpg.
Will there be a new video every time I refresh the page? ;-)
Great job, Casmo!
PS: Can ED implement you exclaiming "Shackerino" as George? It would really complete the module, haha.
I’ll talk to wags.
Seconded. 😜
@@CasmoTV what did he say?
Ah come on mate...I have to do _some_ work _sometime_ today! :O :D
(usual brilliant content mate :-> )
That damn trigger cover had me stumped. Hopefully ED will remove it. Great video. Thanks Casmo. (CajunPilot)
Yeah it’s awful. Plus it can be confused with BUCS trigger.
This is like Christmas and Birthday together
A question I have through all these videos while in the CP/G seat, does the TADS auto lock/stabilize when it finds something of contrast, or is that a button push? Like when you acquired the BTR near the end the cross hair always seems stable. Thanks for pumping these videos out!
From what I can see, the tracking isn't implemented yet. For moving targets, I'm having to keep the TADS on the target with a thumbstick map I use.
What I sometimes do is laze a target and store it in waypoints, then you use that waypoint as my acquisition source and slave the tads to it. If you're in NORM mode and your ACQ is the target your crosshair will be locked on target and the gun will be too, even if there is some heli movement. Probably not what's taught in the manual but it works for now until my pilot is able to perfect his hovers xD
I hope that ED would make trigger guard properly, so unless you open it, you can't shoot (like in your video), but same time offers "shoot (+open guard)" binding for those who have limited buttons.
I would like to see this in the Mi-8, Mi-24, MiG-21 etc where launch button is covered with hat, but if you press fire button the system will fire because it will automatically open/close the cover, even when you have separately binded "open/close cover". And it is annoying that proper guard isn't working!
+20%, best way to deal with it.
Will be fun in VR to shoot where you look - not so fun in TrackIR it seems. Good luck everyone.
It’s better than I thought in TrackIR. Just takes some practice.
Just have to map your curves out 💁
Accuracy will probably not be better with VR, if that‘s what you mean. As Casmo said…It‘s like a hipshot when shit comes at you. Aiming with the TADS was pleasingly precise.
Hypetrain video releases! *cheers*
Great video as always! Can you slew/aim the cannon via MPD in grayscale in the Pilot station? Something like the CPG with the middle screen (still learning the Apache vocabulary)
Thank you in advance!
Short answer -No. Long answer - Pilot can only control the weapon via IHADSS. You can bring up video of what the CPG sees, on the MPD select VID and then you can see on the right side the video inputs you can access. You can select TADS and and at the top of the screen also press the TADS button and then your screen will show you the TADS view, but you don't have slew control over the TADS. The MAN TRK feature is only accessible from the CPG seat RHG. The pilot will control the gun via the IHADSS/PNVS. If the pilot has control of the gun, the CPG will not have the gun tied to the TADS, as it will be used in MSL config. Once CPG has switched to MSL, then the Pilot can WAS up the gun and take control. The pilot needs their hands on the flight controls at all times, hence gun control via IHADSS.
@@GTRNights great explanation! I bought the Apache and now I understand why. It's simple: Pilot fly/defend the helicopter, CPG attack. Thank you for answering!!
10:28 A "Brony Transporter" taken by insurgents in always a decent target :)
Better be an option to remove those smudges on the TADs.. nearly had a stroke when the light was reflecting off the screen 😂
While in the Gunner’s seat,, there was some NAV data displayed on the bottom left. How do you turn that on?
Nice ! How did you map your controls for the CPG ?
Very useful!! TY!!
Thank you. I appreciate it. I hope you enjoy the module.
"*brain disengaged" is my favorite correction note to date.
casmo, quick question about the trigger-guard, the hotas warthog has a 2-stage trigger, so i guess it makes sense to bind the trigger-guard to the first stage and the gun itself to the second stage, so when you release the trigger and stop shooting, it will cover the trigger automaticly, correct?
Yeah I have the Warhhog too, I'm guessing it would be the same as the Viggen's safety trigger, I have the 1st stage to lift the guard, seems to work good...
Please update us on this idea, because as the CPG my gun never seems to work. I have to select a coord from the TSD to be allowed to fire. I don't know why.
That can work but I would think range lazing with first detent would be better and firing with second detent. Just map a randomn button and leave it open whole time
@@lindsaybrown5897 the thing is, with the hotas warthog, you are pretty limited in buttons, that you can bind^^ but i got you^^
how do you slew your curser and i did everything and the gun is still stuck in an upwards position adn doesnt follow my head and its not set on fixed
You make really good presentations. Always my go to first. Casmo, do you have a downloadable T16000M / HOTAS button mapping file that I could get from you?
I would like to ask a question, the parts on the top of the IP is not shaking on my module. is that related with some update or is there a option to make it shakeable, cuz when its vibrate it looks more realistic
clearly visible between 4:43 - 4:53
Thank you for the video! Good job!
One question: why is auto-ranging not the default? And also: why does the gun revert to manual-ranging when switching to a different weapon? (Not questioning if this is realistic, I just find this design decision puzzling and want to better understand why the real aircraft was designed that way. Perhaps auto-ranging is rarely used in reality because it is unreliable?)
Have to ask Boeing.
So the upgrade down the road is worth it to the Military. :)
I have a question for people who have worked on/with the Apache.
What are the constraints that force the cannon field of fire? Like why couldn't they design it to look 120 degrees each way from centre? Doesn't have to follow the pod, but just following HSD for over-shoulder fire? I know it may not be super useful (as you can just turn the aircraft) but why not anyway?
I’m not sure there is an answer to your question.
Also, does the apache have a two stage trigger? Does the first stage do anything? If not, you could bind the first stage to always "open" the trigger guard
I wouldn’t bother mapping first stage for the weapons. So that might work.
I've often wondered watching Apache "gun camera" videos why the rounds seem to spray far from target, as if the recoil makes it difficult to get rounds ON target???? Of course the camera and barrel aren't necessarily on the same axis, but still, maybe the targets are actually a LONG way away.....? That being if those videos are authentic and not game footage.
Also, when enemy is running literally through what I presume are HE rounds landing less than a yard away........ that nothing but a direct hit stops 'em.
IN GAME, I do find the Ctrl + [ and ] are great for slowing down mouse and key motions...... until I get Track IR it's a big help for aiming w/ mouse. I was wondering if Track IR has an adjustment for travel speed across screen? It's REALLY surprising how long rounds that can go for miles can take so long to arrive!!!
when im shooting in the front seat with guns my rounds are a little off target and i dont know what too do can ssomebody help me
Pew pew for days
How have signed was action group at your joystick?
So autorange is not using a laser rangefinder? How does autorange go in rising ground? Ie If the targets on ground at a much different elevation from the ship? (Think in a valley shooting up on a hill)
Thats why it's not normaly on auto but manual. because it's not slaved to the laser :/
I can't get the auto ranging if I startup the helo. If I get it hot started it works, but otherwise... I'm probably missing something, like when you have to activate laser when getting the apache cold. Could you be so kind to give me the direction?
Radar altimeter needs to be on
@@CasmoTV Thanks, Casmo. You rock!
iv jkust had a go in the cpg pit, i got the gun firing a couple of times but others it just wouldnt fire, master arm on, was gun, i cant use the laser ranger. it shows man 3000 (3km?) i thought you box it then enter a in the keypad but that does nothing. any ideas what im doing wrong?
Not sure. Hard to analyze with that. Could be a big. Could be a button. Trigger guard?
@@CasmoTV its not the trigger guard, i dont know enouh to say much else, il get back into the mnual
Do you need to go through the boresight procedure prior to using the gun? I have only had this for about a month now and thanks to your videos I can now take off, trim and fly the waypoints, hover and land. Just that is one helluva feat. Now that phase is relatively stable I am stepping into weapon deployment. I figured the gun is the first weapon I should get down. And I have not just Casmo (and others like Wags, Spud, GS, etc.) to thank. Many viewers chimed in as well to offer help. That's why this community is so tight. As long as people believe you're trying, they are more than willing to help. And there's some really good forums that can give you tips and tricks.
In real life yes. In DCS… havent really had to.
@@CasmoTV Well, I plan on getting an Apache as soon as they become available on Ebay. So in real life I will boresight before using the gun. But in DCS, I will not unless I notice an issue with my accuracy. Thanks for the quick response.
I'm trying to get a friend into DCS but he's a intimidated. He thought about joining in the frontseat of my apache, but his trackir is broken. Is there a good way to control the gun without it from the front seat, in DCS? Can you bind it to the mouse, or some other axis I guess?
Don’t have to use the helmet. Just use the TADs.
at 10:30 onwards, the gunner can just use that display to do actual aiming, the trackir stuff is just for emergencies anyways
@@CasmoTV Yeah I noticed right after I asked the question, thanks!
I recommend a thumbstick of some kind. I have a G13 and I have the thumbstick set to joystick and then mapped the axis to the MAN TRK button and it works perfectly.
One issue i have with the CP/G seat, i go to lase target with LRFD, and 1.) i dont get the laser "x" and i suddenly can't fire at all, even switching out to missiles i can't fire those either. Any fix to this, did I miss something at startup?
Weapon page. Util page (at top). Check laser is on
@@CasmoTV that’ll do it, kinda wish that was in a more convenient spot
Sometimes I can't get the gun to autorange, anyone know what causes this? Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong?
Casmo, Was you ever in the 3rd ACR at one point in your career? if so....Rifles!
Nope. Always had wanted to be when i was a tanker.
Casmo... first of all, absolutely unbelievable this module in VR. Its outstanding. Now.... When i take off the bird wants to pull up, so much so that my stick is almost full forwards just to keep level, any idea or a pointer in what im doing wrong?
Are you doing take off trim? I'm not super knowledgeable but in the hind at least you gotta trim for takeoffs.
@Dakota Odwyer take off trim? Where's the button for that? hornet I do..
didn't know it was a thing on the 64
@@leewalton7403 So in the bindings it should just be called trimmer for a button press and some directions for holding it, its a helo thing essentially. Jets have it too but it works completely differently.
@@leewalton7403 I'm glad my poor explaination helped, good luck.
This is causing me more pain and sorrow than enjoyment. shit is so confusing im ripping my hair out its like it does the opposite of everything i try to get it to do
I came to this video because cannon wouldnt fire for me. Thanks for pointing out the trigger guard.
The Casmo promise; you will maybe most definitely learn something here. Probably.
2: 21 what key is cyclic up?
Any chance you can get some basic flight stuff, apache appears to be twitchier than a squirrel on speed.
I am hoping that it’s because it’s a beta that it’s like that because no other helicopter is as uncontrollable as this thing.
What is the name of the button to fire the 30mm
I am completely lost in the minute 2:20 when you switch guns. I try to find our,but not results.
I am pretty much NEW in this Sim.
In the controls, search for Weapons Action Switch. There is an Up, Down, Left, Right. Pushing the Weapons Action Switch up selects your gun, for example. You have to bind the controls twice, once for the pilot, and again for the gunner.
Casmos pumping out the videos now 😜 trying to keep us all awake untill release? (Or keeping out blood ah-64 levels above critical prior to treatment). 😜
Been working on them for weeks. And naturally ED released this thing the one week out of 3 months I’m not home. 🙄
@@CasmoTV I suspected you might have had a heap stored up waiting for the declassification (from ED)
FireControlComputer does not seem to compensate any movement of A/C itself. Is this true in real Apache?
This is still getting refined in the EA release.
@@CasmoTV
Thankyou! ill wait till it gets the compensator.
This is what we were all waiting for. Let's be honest.
I'm lasing and shooting but all of the rounds are overshooting all targets, any idea? 2000-2500m away
Gun isn’t the best right now. It’s the high priority fix at ED.
I am struggling to get anything at all to fire. I would have thought it would have been the case in a military helicopter that you select the gun, switch the master arm to on and then have some options for range etc but you should be able to fire at that point. Apparently not and there must be another 30 safety catches because I still cant get it to fire....Nor can I get to look through the Flir scope which is enabled on the screen but I can never view completely from that view as the gunner....
Check your trigger guard. NOT the BUCS trigger guard. Idk why that’s even there…
@@CasmoTV how many guards are there ? :)
Casmo, it is 6am and I'm trying to go to bed. Why? lmfao
10:30 how do you lock the tads to the target so it doesnt wander off?
No lock.
@@CasmoTV so its just down to the stable hover?
im just getting IHADSS B/S REQUIRED under C-HMD , can anyone help?
Weapons page. Bore sight. Line up your LOS with the lights (you will see them). Hit cursor enter depress when you are lined up.
Thanks for the tutorial ;)when does the Apache actually release though? Is it today or the 31st of March?
Today
Probably end of the day pacific time?
@@dannyd7714
When today, do you know?
Downloading....
@@paristo you downloading it from steam?
puttin out the GUCCI content
What button do you press to change targeting modes? (From hmd to tads)
Search for sight select. HMD, TADS and two other options that are not implemented just yet.
@@caseyryback6932 yeah got it thanks, feels so good to be able to fly this bird
I know what you mean…Spending every free minute since the release digging into it and cheering like a little boy everytime something works as intended…Have fun, mate!!
Has this been released yet as I'm in the UK & still don't see it in the downloads it's in my mods but with no storage amount
In a few hours
@@dannyd7714 ahh ok nice nice
Usually 1600-1800Z is when updates drop
@@dannyd7714 is that for the UK too?
Seems silly that the computer will remember a range you set when swapping weapon but not if you set it to auto. Is this something they going to add as a fix or that's just how it is?
That’s how it is. It’s not “silly” it’s by design. Auto isn’t as helpful as it sounds.
@@CasmoTV fair enough thanks for the reply.
I noticed there are no tracer rounds, is there a reason for that?
Cause the Apache doesn’t have tracers.
That goddamned patch ain’t up yet :)
It's unfortunate you didn't get into the PHS, GHS, and the list of ACQ modes.
That will come later. It’s really hard to compress a 5 month course into a few 10 min videos.
This may get deleted for revealing classified information, but I just have to ask, are you allowed to have bobble heads on the dash?
If I tell you that then Putin will win.
@@CasmoTV He's lost already, just doesn't know it yet. So you can't.
Brrrrrrrr
Is the splash damage fairly realistic Cas?
No lol not at all. Not yet. But the dispersion is ok.
@@CasmoTV Do you think ED will bump splash damage up a bit?
How do you "was" the gun?
Yes this took me a while to figure out too. It’s on the joystick left of the Flor panel in the gunners seat it has gun / rkt / msle on the button multi direction thing.
@@ads3453 Thanks a lot for the quick response, saved my time!!
It seems odd to me that it defaults to manual...I can't think of a reason that you'd normally want anything other than auto ranging.
Sloping terrain. Which most of the earth is.
@@CasmoTV Right, but I'd think that could all be accounted for.
@@CasmoTV So the auto ranging doesn't use a terrain elevation database?
It only calculates distance to target subject to your altitude not where the target is so if the target is at a lower elevation in AUTO the gun will overshoot the target
@@lindsaybrown5897 But, it's slant range...it's just doing Pythagorean theorem to solve for one side of a triangle...VERY easy math, even for 80s-ish tech.
And, unless you're trying to gun air to air, you're pointing at a dude at a different altitude/elevation than you. So, him being up or down a hill would screw it up a bit no matter what...Wouldn't think it'd be that much though. I would think auto would be the default.
But hey, maybe it messes it up more than I think. Dunno. Either way, seems pretty easy to walk it in under most circumstances.
Maybe I'll just have to fly a bit and make a video on it, testing it out. 😏
The more I play DCS, and the more we see new modules with functionalities such as IHADDS. The more I wonder what the future of warfare is going to look like. I believe the next evolution of invasion defense is cheap drones mounting missiles and guns. Being controlled by civilian operators. Whether former military or completely civilian, its games like DCS that are going to make sourcing drone pilots in times of emergency a simple proposition. I can see roles like loyal wingman, cargo/logistics flights, patrol flights, and ferry flights. Being handed off to civilian operators/contractors/volunteers were there to be a full scale war. Therefore freeing up classically trained pilots for combat roles. All of this is assuming we can avoid nuclear war though.
Me, first day in AH-64D: ROTOR RPM LOW. ROTOR RPM LOW. ROTOR RPM LOW.
You broke it didn't you ?
What’s the fire weapon bind called ?
Yes this !!!
Try Weapons Trigger Switch - SECOND DETENT
I'm still not sure what FIRST DETENT does, but I saw another one of Casmo's comments saying not to bother with it.
@@noscopesallowed8128 Yeah tried assigning that to a button as well but doesn't seem to do anything
@@ads3453 Don't forget they modeled the cover over the gun trigger, so you need to "open" the cover before your guy can touch the trigger. I don't remember what the key bind is called, if you don't find it I'll update this comment in a bit.
Also the Apache sometimes won't let you fire certain weapons when they're out of constraints.
@@noscopesallowed8128 Thanks man I got it weapons firing, what I didn't realise is there are 3 sections of controls you have to set the fire button (Pilot, Gunner . Co-pilot ?!?) Anyway by binding a button to all of them one of them worked... Very convoluted.... I just need to get the TAS thing working so when I look around the gun (or more importantly the FLIR view inside the helicopter) moves around too
Lol "ango"
im guessing that the lil disclosure about the "data and ase" is stuff you learned IRL and cant talk about?
Yup
@@CasmoTV fair enough, thanks for these videos , really coming in clutch with the DCS community keep it up Casmo 👌👌
why not default "auto" ?
Doesn’t account for elevation.
When will the Apache release?!?
Today
Can you be more granular 😃? How many more hours?
Lol. Shortly before I do. *Ba doom cha!*
you shoot better without the auto range, lol
Noooo! Please don't remove the trigger guard. I feel it adds realism, even if a bit finicky in a sim. Maybe as a special option menu item?
It’s gross.
@@CasmoTV But modules like the Hip have the weapon button cover that acts in the same way. Maybe the addition of some kind of non intrusive visual indication (maybe on George interface) would work. Thanks.
@@skyrider6227 On VKB sticks it could be pretty good, like using the 2 flip down positions of the trigger for guarded and unguarded, with the press being to actual fire.
Problem is though is whether or not those bindings will be available (and in a lot of aircraft they aren't and there's only a toggle).
You have to remember it’s annoying the shit out of a lot of people who can’t even fire the god damn guns yet
11:49 the effect of smoking is embarrassing imho
Ok
@@CasmoTV I mean we are in 2022 and these smoke effects (even those of the missiles) look like old gen at the time of the ps3.
But why are you telling me? I don’t care 🤷🏻♂️
@@CasmoTV I tell everyone
Is this accurate to real one ?
Pretty close. Gun isn’t as accurate. Yet.
Video gives me headache, what's with the nauseating shaking?
Hmm, it's really a lot easier to always use Automatic ranging for Gun and Rockets. That's assuming you're below 1428 meters AGL.
