Thank you so much Lily. You are a real gem to do all this comparison and testing for us. You have know idea what a help this is for me personally. I’m on a strict set income each month due to disability so I have to make every dollar stretch as far as possible and I really can’t afford a dozen of the same pencil all dressed up in different wrappers know what I mean? So all your hard work has been truly invaluable to me and will allow me to make the best possible purchases and really enjoy my precious hobby. Thank you a million times over and bless you. Have a wonderful weekend. 😊

It became popular to trash Arteza. Kind of like what happened to Prisma. Somebody popular "discovered" that they were partially water soluble, as a lot of pencils are.. it was no big shock.. and BAM suddenly they were garbage and everyone bashed them. I love them, they are the perfect baby of oil and wax.. transparent and glide like the oil, but blend and smush with or without a blender pencil like a soft wax. They are well made and consistent in quality, comfortable to hold, easy on the hands, lovely to look at. They have unique beautiful jewel like colors, even the neutrals. Particularly the greens and purples are stunning, but really every color just glows. I've also never found a paper they wouldn't work on, and that is rare... every other pencil I own has at least one "nope" paper. Priced at mid range of budget, go on sale frequently, and offer almost open stock (packs of 3). Cons are the vibrancy if you want muted natural tones (just grab another set of pencils) and lack of pastels (toss in a pastel set). I keep hoping they will release a pastel set of the expert line.. got really excited when they announced a pastel set a year or so ago but it was their basic level. I've also heard complaints that the print wears off over time but that's not uncommon either. If folks are scared put a bit of clear nail polish over it. I have a lot of pencils from every price range and they are top four for me, the only reason they aren't higher is that they are not 100% open stock and I tend to use bases so I prefer opaque pencils. They sit right under Polychromos for me.

I got the 72 Arteza set a while ago and I absolutely love them. Sadly that's the biggest set available in Germany. I'd LOVE to test out the 120 set alas to no avail. I even wrote the Arteza customer service, and they said they HOPE to release the big set in the near future in Germany again. For me that doesn't sound very promising, sadly. Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed 🤞😉

@@koppsrperhaps try getting them off a different Amazon site like the UK one and have them shipped to you in Germany? It will cost a bit more for the shipping cost but you can get a larger set that way. If you look at other European countries the postage wouldn't be as bad as ordering from say, the US site or Amazon Japan.

I have never tried the Arteza pencils, but a bunch of others, budget, mid and artist grade. When the Arteza bashing about the solubility started, I got curious and tried all the pencils that I own. They are almost ALL more or less soluble, even high quality pencils like Polychromos will smear and smudge a bit if you get them wet. People really just like to complain, and when there is nothing readily available to complain about, they will go find something.

Your videos are so much fun! Thanks for doing this.
I recently discovered (and can say with 99% certainty) that Soucolor are the same as Brutfuner black barrels. I have both the Brutfuner 180 set and the Soucolor 180 set. If I remember correctly, the color names and numbers are identical. The only difference between the two sets is that they each had 4 colors that the other set didn't have. When I was done organizing and swatching both sets, I took the 4 different colors from the Brutfuner set and put them in with my Soucolors and created a master set of 184 colors with a 180 color 'open stock' set to go with it.
Here's something else I found out recently via another CZcamsr: The company that creates StarJoy uses the same lead manufactuer as Castle Arts. She contacted the owner about the origin of his pencils and showed his written response to her in the video. I don't think the Castle Arts and Star Joy sets are almost identical, however, chances are they use the same leads. The kicker is that StarJoy is far less expensive at $26 for a 120 set, where Castle arts is around $55 for a 120 set on Amazon.

And tbh in the artezas just like the fc polys you kinda lack on the pastel/light tones. So if arrtx have that and mixes well with the arteza i would probably pick them up too. Oooh, i am thrilled too hear, i would do it myself but i dont have that many sets of pencils or what most people seem to have. I think the only two pen sets that not everyone has is the nyoni and deli. Which both have colours that arent in other sets i have. But the nyoni 120 set is great and probably the fave pen apart from my brutfuner squares. Deli ones are nice but some are scratchy which is why i use them less quality feels a lil worse.

I found the Arrtx quite hard and they don't blend as nicely, or have nearly as nice of a color range as the Arteza. I was shocked how hard they actually were compared to all the reviews they had gotten on social media, and quite sad that I had purchased them. You also can't replace them open stock at all.. at least Arteza offers three packs of single colors. I would suggest trying Derwent Chromaflow.. they are thinner but they are soft and pigmented and blend beautifully. Jackons and Ken Bromley sell them open stock now. Unfortunately they only offer 72 but it's a good balanced color range. They are opaque so different from the transparent Arteza.

thats surpriseing given how everyone talks about how soft they are and compare them to prismas. Who are a lil too soft for my likeing and way too expensive in my country. In all honesty i am currently investing in buying more of the expensive openstock pencils i like that i can replace them when ever and i dont mind paying for them or slowly buying them openstock untill i have a full set. But before i have a better understanding for colour pencils and learnt a lil more i am very much in noob stages, i cringe everytime i have to sharpen a pen cus i feel like i am not worthy of the price tag. I find the derwent lightfast to be a lovely pencil and not so hard but they are expensive. I just need stop doing full pictures in FC polys cus its killing my wrist.
