I was there !! A 13 year old Welsh kid watching my favourite International team beat the English . What a day ! Back to Stirling , where my Uncle and Aunt held a house party . It was absolute mayhem that night. Great memories , great people , a great and beautiful country. Now I'm 55 , and have been back many times with my wife and sons who love Scotland the country and people as much as me.
I was there ! I was 11 years old high up on that old KIng's Park end terracing. Atmosphere was brilliant. 85,000 crowd still the biggest I have been in at any football match. Had a great view of King Kenny;s winner put through through Clemence's legs.
I was 8 years old and that was the day I fell in love with the Sottish national side. I've had many days to bitterly regret that since, but I wouldn't change a thing :-)
I hitch-hiked from the south of France (where I was teaching) all the way home to see this game (and Bayern Munich v St Etienne in the European Cup Final a few days earlier). And then I hitched it back. Worth every wait and every discomfort, beating the English was the pinnacle back then!
It wasn't packed. There had been 136.000 in it in 1970. Amazing that half of it was uncovered but there was still a ln amazing atmosphere. Wembley had better acoustics but Hampden really fuckin rumbled at times.
I also I was there , . Flower of Scotland lyrics was printed in the daily record that sat ,., cd be wrong but I think first time song was sung at a Scotland game . Rangers end wd be covered in dust , whenever Scotland scored . Hampden was a pig sty but it was our pig sty 💕 Our train broke down , going back home to Kilmarnock .great memories Thought two Rangers players at the back and Masson and Rioch where outstanding
those were the days when football was football for real, and stars were stars for real. Back then, players used to play with their hearts, and please if you know football, watch how great their individual skills and how tough they were. Messi or Ronaldo in those days would not even make it to the bench because they would not be good enough to match the skills of any of those 70's giants.
That's how they wore 'em. Terrible 1970s fashion for men. Kipper ties, lapels & shirt collars big enough for a Jumbo jet & platform shoes. That's how I looked. If only I knew then..
Virtually every player on the field is two-footed, and all look to engage their opposite man at every opportunity. How British football has deteriorated.
Both England and Scotland did not qualify for Euro 1976 which meant that both countries were preparing for qualifying campaigns for the 1978 World Cup with England having their opening match in Helsinki away to Finland a month after this game with 3 friendlies in the USA sandwiched inbetween these 2 games and Scotland in the 1978 World Cup Qualifying would resume their Home International rivalry with Wales and in a repeat of the 1974 qualifying campaign Czechoslovakia
I never realised there was a actual Cup! Tho rarely did Scotland get their hands on it anyway. No doubt its been ditched to some minor league to win it like the great Football Div One trophy passed down to the former Div Two then rechristened Div One, then that Div One was passed down to the former Div Three which was rechristened Div Two then re-rechristened Div One, of course the Div Two then Div One now Championship, rumour has it to be Premier League Two. What bollocks! So is the original Div One Trophy now at the 3rd tier Div One circa 2019? Please lets just have it the old 1,2,3,4 & maybe 5 too.
The Home Internationals Trophy is held by Northern Ireland. They were the last outright winners of the Home International series played in 1984,and so kept the Trophy.
It’s taken me two years to try and figure out what exactly you are saying. For fucks sake, buy a comma and a full stop. It’s quite simple, English after all…
You are talking about the late Brian Moore (one of the greatest football commentators of his time) and the legendary Jack Charlton (1966 World Cup winning footballer with England) who are both, of course, English. Naturally, although they are supposed to be impartial, they would undoubtedly like to see their own country win. It's only natural. If you asked a Scotsman who they would want to win, he would always back Scotland - even more so if it means winning against England. If you asked any Brazilian commentator who they would like to see win at football, they would obviously support Brazil. If you asked an Italian, thy would back Italy. If you asked a Spaniard, they would always follow their own nation: Spain. Ask an Argentine, and they would always back Argentina. And so forth and so forth. What do you expect the commentators to do when their own country scores a goal? Start crying their eyes out? No. You support your country. Win or lose. 👍😁

Love the camera shots from behind the goal in the first half. Hampden looks HUGE and packed to the rafters. Glorious days of proper football!

How many great stars were there on that pitch !!!!!
none
Great upload from a golden Era
These games were the highlight of the season.
FA Cup & Eng v Scot the 2 biggest games in the world if not the universe.
By the way, this game was on my 16th birthday!! What a present!!! Thanks boys!!!
Big Tam Forsyth's tackle at the end. Sadly he died yesterday. Rest In Peace, Jaws...
Yep. Remember it well.
No one tackled like Tom Forsyth. You stayed tackled.
Great match. I thought it was more tough, but in general the fair play was preserved.
Top notch upload
What a great watch.
Best upload yet keep em coming

Agreed. Today's footballers = Rubbish.
Some ropey old passing at times. But what an impressive sight the old Hampden was.
what a great british team you make from these teams
Proper football back then.
At 49:30 even in 1976 the Flared Trousers worn by the supporter being escorted out of the ground were unacceptable . 😎

🤣FAF !
No shirt swapping as there was in at least '79, not sure about '78
I remember a joke at the time: after this game Clemence decided to end it all and jump in front of a bus but he let the bus go through his legs.
Why are the ball boys dressed as 18th century fire men
Wow! The lack of skill and technique amongst the English footballers (and some Scottish) was so evident here. What dross we were served up

This was May 15th which was a Saturday in 1976 May 14th in 1976 was a Friday
That aberration at Wembley 75 aside, we were pretty much unbeatable from 1974-77. The Argentina World Cup came just a year too late for us.
@Lee Boyall Hardly.
Dalgleish ahead of his time... diving for a penalty just before half-time!
made a career of diving as did the by then retired Francis Lee
@@dlamiss hmmmm .. really? Kenny Dalglish .. THE King Kenny Dalglish "made a career from diving"?? Get a fuckin grip, mate!
Roy McFarland. Derby under Clough, '69 and '72
Everybody has long hair back in the 70s
1:36:51 Who came up with that car crash of a theme?!?
I cannot understand a word spoken by Jackie Charlton.
Big boys soccer. Miss those days. Too much theatrics nowadays.
Colin Todd at right back?
Really.
Ahh memories. Shame the jocks are such trash these days.
Yeah but a true British football side.
Who won this one? LOL

The English-biased commentating and analysis is a laugh.
