This looks great! I've really wanted to see the play for a long time. Looking forward to it! Cynthia Erivo played in The Color Purple on Broadway...she has a hell of a voice!

I definitely like and respect your insights! And you're right, I honestly believe the initial popularity of Wicked on Broadway is the thing that catapulted this trend of misunderstood villains in pop culture over the last couple of decades, leading to movies like Frozen and Maleficent. Interesting note though, Frozen was spawned from Disney's original development of an animated movie adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, The Snow Queen, and when you know that story, it does kinda feel like Disney basically shoehorned the Wicked trope into the plot points of the original fairy tale when making Frozen.
You should watch the rent movie. All the cast members except two are from the original Broadway cast. Excellent movie!

10:30 - 11:05 You ain't alone, man. I'm not a fan of Maleficent either. The changes made to make Sleeping Beauty like Wicked and Frozen were so dumb. Even Doug brought up the conundrum comparison between Wicked and Maleficent in Disney, trying to make the Mistress of Evil into a hero.

In Wicked, it's compelling when you see this side to her: a smart, fragile, charismatic but misunderstood outcast who got blamed for everything because she was different and didn't always know how to fight back.
With Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is already a charming, charismatic, and sophisticated villain. She has her outbursts, of course, but there's always a charm and grace to whatever she does. You love how smart, elegant, and diabolical she can be. So, to make this work, you'd have to do the opposite, and A. I don't think that's what they do here, and B. If it is, it doesn't do it well. She's not simple enough to have a charming naivete, but she's intelligent enough to be diabolical or menacing. It can't go all the way with what it originally was, but it can't go all the way with the opposite either."

Wicked & Frozen are very different from each other. Elphaba embraces becoming The Wicked Witch of the West. (i.e. No Good Deed) Have you seen The Wizard of Oz? They may have similarities but they're not the same. Ariana Grande started on Broadway in 13 and is a Massive Wicked Fan and she made sure they kept the Original Dialogue from the Musical.
The basic premise is the same and okay fine that doesn't make them very different
Also your telling me Elsa didn't embrace her powers and what not........that's literally what "let it go" is about lol
