  • Many of you have asked the question about if there is a lag when switching between patches on the GP-200
    Have a look, but the short answer is NO (although there is probably a few miliseconds in reality).

    I just got my Valeton not too long ago. And my work around any “lag” is to have whichever patch I wanna switch to already pushed in and held down. I then let go and it switches with zero lag. Gotta make sure you’re gonna change the patch in the next couple of seconds cause held too long it resets.

    Hi Paul
    Over the last few months I've tried quite a few modellers and I've ended up buying this unit because of your videos.
    To my ear, this sounds better than anything else I've tried. I tried the headrush prime but it felt like a half finished project, the helix LT was the biggest disappointment for me personally. All the models sounded pretty much the same, everything was far too middle forward, it sounded like an old unit, yes it's got loads of Amos/effects but its no good if they don't sound right. I also tried the Boss gx100 and the effects sound great but the Amos were a bit sterile. I know you can tweak all these things but I just want a great sound without faffing around and getting lost in menus! I think sometimes we listen with our wallets! Anything cheaper can't be good, I thought that myself but actually using this, the sounds are really great. None of that fizzy top end I've had with all other units, to me it sounds warm and real. I'm just using it to record at the moment but the results so far are great. I would urge anyone thinking of buying a modeller not to hesitate and to try one of these units.
    Cheers

    helix has a notable gap when in preset mode. unless you sacrifice one path to mode where theres seamless switching(available in LT and Floor only which has 2 processors for a long pedal chain). i think when you switch to the seamless switching mode the entire pedal goes one path only. so you can't chose if you want one patch to be single processor use and other to be 2 processors. snapshot mode is the best. it emulates actual amp rig and more. and then theres stompbox mode where some people say that you can assign the bank up down switches to do a lot of different things which make use of 10 switches instead of normal 8 switch mode. pedal is worth the money for sure but as per your question preset mode has a definite lag because entire rigs(which means a hell of lot of complex computer code procedures) has to be loaded newly to the every preset change. snapshot mode stays in one loded rig and just do different things with what you have in the chain. i'm definitely not a expert with the pedal yet. but this is what i've learned since buying the LT last january. though it has multiple different amps and cabs. i'm just using 3 snaphot presets live with my function band a marshall chain, a deluxe reverb chain and a bogner uberschall chain. but i've got to make a few more rigs to see if i can get some more usable stuff.
    btw i'm definitely buying a valeton for fly gigs. i want to keep my luggage simple and minimum as possible. your channel helps a lot!

    I think this 'lag' concern (for live gigs anyway) is a bit 'paralysis by analysis' imho… who in the audience is going to notice ?… really ?. Nice one Paul, makes perfect sense.

    • @ashandesilvaguitarist
      @ashandesilvaguitarist Před 11 měsíci

      helix preset mode has a very noticable gap. even if the audience doesn't, band mates will definitely notice (i mean in rare cases that whatever i play serves as a guide to some section in music and it involves switching sounds quickly. ie - my band does several long song medleys whenever theres a danceloor filling up). gp 200 is definitely better in this area compared to the LT i own!

      SOME units do have an annoying amount of lag, but as you can see, it's not the case here.

    When i press my play record sometimes it makes it do the slow motion does anyone else have this? And sometimes it crackles without even peaking in the red.
    Ive only had it for about 3 days.
    Is there any way to make the 6 switches do effects only and 2 of the 8 switch between patches? I dont see the point of having 4 switches for patches when i could have 2 patches where i can just turn reverb on and off and have more control and diversity with those two.
    Also is it not possible to have 2 overdrives?
    Or a mod and an octave pedal? I also cant find and octave pedal on here.
    If you cant have 2 mods or 2 reverbs or 2 overdrives that really kills the experimentation. Or even 2 amps even if i have to give up the volume pedal for cpu idgaf about a volume pedal its annoying every preset has a volume pedal and i have to get fiddly and switch it to wah even if i have the wah on it still does the volume pedal.
    The looper peaking is also annoying af why dont they make a hard cap on the audio so it just doesnt peak lol.
    It wont peak and then with the SAME EXACT patch and settings ill do lead over it or even pay the same thing and it peaks the audio wtf. Indo screaming pinch harmonics and it doesnt peak then when i do lead even bass chug it peaks.

    Hey Paul! Love the videos!
    The thing I noticed early on is that the Valeton has a weird thing where it doesn't switch until the button is released. I actually bought a Midi Commander and using that to switch patches, the "lag" is completely imperceptible. It's microseconds and I am able to hit every tone change right on beat with ease. Just a tip for everyone out there! It's worth grabbing a budget midi controller to make patch switching easier.

      @@bobbyg1233 I was about to say that it could be a useful feature... since you can press the button before you actually need the switch, then just release it when you need the other patch to come in. Hi Paul. Hope you see this. Enjoyed your videos on the GP200 but had a question. This relates to some comments I've read which say that one can't add two effects from the same category to the effects chain, eg two reverbs etc. If this is the case in my view it's a massive problem. Can you clarify that this isn't just users not knowing how to do it? Cheers.

    • @PaulBondMusic
      @PaulBondMusic  Před 2 měsíci

      Sorry for the late reply... I'm guessing you've found the answer by now, but it is correct that you can NOT add for example 2 x reverbs on one patch.
      It's never been an issue for me, but I suppose if you are doing ambient stuff it might be an issue. You could always feed your favourite FX pedals in via send and return.

    With my particular GP200 there is a very perceptible latency when switching patches. If say, playing a 'clean' patch on A and pressing button B for an overdriven solo, after pressing B, the clean tone (from A) continues very audibly and then the overdriven tone (B) actually swells into place. This maybe only for less than a second or so, but is very annoying in a live performance situation. Otherwise this is a great sounding unit, looks good, well built, easy to use and good value. But in my case at least, seemingly compromised by this unwanted latency respect. I have contacted Valeton who recognise the problem, evidently caused by the need to load algorithms to change patches and they say they will optimise this problem in future updates.

      I noticed this latency problem myself. It was annoying.
      It must be a foot switch issue BECAUSE:
      I now send commands via MIDI and ,surprisingly, if you change patches via an external MIDI-board there's no latency at all!

  • @JiTiAr35
