- The Congress ended days of suspense and fielded Rahul Gandhi from Raebareli, a seat represented by his mother, Sonia Gandhi, who went to the Rajya Sabha. The party fielded Kishori Lal Sharma, a Gandhi loyalist from Amethi. The announcement came as Friday was the last day for filing nominations for the states that will go to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 20.

But bad perception created here, when ameti and rae bareli were kept on hold till the last day of filing of nomination. The only reason he opted out of his old seat could only because if fear of losing a second time.
