Holy shit! Almost a 100% sure that’s my 99 supercharged i owned!!! I was always wondering where it would end up. I added the suspension wheels and sliders.. even recognized a sticker on the back window. Would love to know more about its life.
Holy crap I bet that’s it… As far as it’s life…. I’ve beat it to the ground, but I’ve also blown people’s minds out-wheeling jeeps, jumped 2 foot drops into arroyos, driven up things that no one should have. And had the best winters hanging out with that toyota heater 🔥 Before me I know it was in Lake Tahoe as my buddy worked at a ski resort there. It came to me as a 5 cylinder (drove from Tahoe like that). I promise, its getting rebuilt better, I got heim joint steering in the works. And valves in stock to replaced the burned ones. I’d love pics! My email is Steinfabgarage@gmail.com
Happy to see another video from you. I always learn something from your videos. Those ball joints look so easy to change, love the ones that just bolt in.
Sorry to hear about your friend, I feel the same about the ball joints. I just purchased a 1996 Tacoma that had a upper control arm failure, from rust. The upper control rotted away, so I replaced it with a good used Toyota unit and new genuine Toyota ball joints. I will be replacing the other side as well, even though I intend to sell it.
I learned a lot in this little ep....and I can appreciate the knowledge and hustle you have. Sorry about your friend....and good on you for keeping things OEM. A little love to that vehicle goes a long way.
You are absolutely correct on the lower ball joints, but i would also make it a ritual to change the bolts as well with Toyota OEM. While balljoint failure might occur, its also bolt reuse and failure that contributes to complete separation and serious risk.
I will start doing this, I have never seen that happen personally, and I’ve jumped TF outta that supercharged one. Still, better safe than sorry, thank you for the knowledge!
You are doing it right! Those 555 will last max of 10K. I have a 3rd gen since 2010 and know inside out and I am not too far from you. Wow.. you got a ton of 4R. Mine is 97 white sr5 with moonmist interior. Do you happen to have the 99+ center console moon mist? Thats the only item it needs.
@@steinfabgarage trying to go from memory I was in college it was 2004ish. I got a check engine light and running rough or it stalled. We towed it to the local Toyota dealer and they fixed something that was under 200. I picked it up from the dealer and rough running motor and check engine light again within a day or so. Had towed back to dealer. They fixed an issue for 5 or 600. Then as I was leaving the Toyota dealer parking lot the check engine light came on again and it started running rough and died. We had towed to a Lexus mechanic my parents used in town and they said timing belt bad and replaced it and never had issues again. Until I totaled it about a year later driving into deep water playing around after hurricane Ivan and it was a total loss to insurance. Water over roof. This was a 1998 3.4 v6 Tacoma. I can check for paper work now that I’m curious when I visit my parents around Thanksgiving. I still have the stuff from that truck. Enjoy looking back at how cheap stuff was. Toyota dealer oil change 29 bucks. I wouldn’t trust most Toyota dealers now from experiences. My FL one is terrible.

Hey man where ya located? Love that toyota 4runner graveyard! Got any links to a decent 2nd gen 4runner exhaust for the v6? I got a 3.4 swap in my 2nd gen searching for exhaust... doubt toyota would have any left for them and don't wanna go autozone route. Thanks
New Mexico vehicles are a dream to people like us in the North East part of the country where road salt and snow would rust any car in under 9 years. Nice to see extinct cars still alive
Got to love the new print out plates a decade ago u would get pulled over for improper display of a plate if it was in the window back in the 90s i got pulled over 2 days in a row in the same spot by 2 different cops first one was for a plate lite out cop told me to put the plate in the back window got pulled over the next night with the cop acting like he was going to shoot me to death yelling because the playe was in the window told him what the other cop said he dint believe me said he was writing me a ticket a few minutes later gives me my license and tells me to put my plate back but no ticket gues he figured it out lol
My aunt and uncle have a 2002 SR5 4R. Has over 200,000 miles on it. Starting to rust a little but they still have it. Should I tell them to get the ball joints replaced?
@@steinfabgarage OK thanks for the information. They live up in the rust belt in Saint Paul Minnesota so I'm sure they've hit plenty. My uncle is pretty good at maintaining it. So sorry to hear about your friend.
@@MA-sz5xv thanks man, I saw a taco with failed ball joint yesterday, the lil clip will be in part 2. Doing it now is cheaper than the repair bill that knocks out a CV, brake line, possible upper ball joint, possible fender damage, not to mention a potential car crash

“202,000 is nothing for the 4Runners…” while there’s 15 broken 4 runners in the background. 😂
Only 5 parts cars, 10 run
Okay 8 run, I gotta wire the 4x4 swap 3rd gen, and the SAS 3.4 swap 2nd gen, my mistake. Then 5 parts cars 😅

the good ol' 3.4l ... love them.
Damn, 14 4Runners. That’s impressive.
I have a problem….
In New York or New Jersey those 4Runners would sell in a heartbeat regardless of condition...
your long pause at 11:15 is what i do sometimes you just got to stay frozen in time and thought to figure shyt out
It be like that sometimes 😬
I hope you understand not one 3rd gen came factory with a supercharger on the 5vz-fe! It was a dealer add on option !!

What’s a moon mist?
I have a soft spot for the four runners up until I owned a 3.0L V6 that was a total POS! Watch out for the ol strawberry milkshake in the radiator!

Aww dang now i have to change the ball joints on my sequoia.
Please do!

My timing belt went out/started to go bad 20 years ago on a 3.4 with 84k miles. I can’t imagine them making it to 200k plus and 25 years old
Did you yourself see this? Or is that just what a service writer that lives off commissions told you?

Only if they get OEM joints. I’ve seen originals last 300k, BUT it depends on how many potholes the original owner has hit
I do recommend it at 200k, then they’ll be good till 400k

For the price of all those 4Runners you could have bought a proper imported diesel Land Cruiser 😁
Lets say a HJ61 or HDJ80
I like 4Runners, if I liked cruisers, there would be 15 land cruisers 😉
