I presume that Brendan composed it as he plays it now at his solo gigs. I feel fortunate that I saw DCD play this live 3 times back in the 1980's as well as the other great songs such as ocean and indoctrination from the first 3 albums.

I was at the DCD gig in Manchester cathedral yesterday and Brendan played this song. A remarkable event but this really was a highlight and Brendan’s voice has, if anything, more texture and depth now than when he first recorded this song! - it was genuinely spine tingling.

Dead Can Dance used to play the song live in the latter part of the 1980's with these additional lyrics, so they have been bootlegged many times. The additional lyrics are as follows (according to the website Dead Can Dance Within). However, I don't think it is entirely correct.
