    Edit: I tried making my first resin shaker charm today and I had so much fun! I had a gold moon with star and moon glitters in it (I used the same AliExpress mould that you have). Thank you so much for the inspiration!

      nxdal I would honestly start off small, look at supplies from AliExpress, eBay, Amazon and local craft stores. I would also look into using Art n’ Glow resin as a starter one, there are other brands as well on Amazon you can look into. Just make sure to do your research. Also before starting resin, I would highly recommend you getting protective gear. Epoxy resin can be dangerous and cause rashes and other side effects if you don’t wear the correct gear. I would suggest a full face respiratory vapor mask, nitrile gloves, wearing long sleeves and making sure you are working in a well ventilated area that doesn’t have children around. Also keep in mind this is a very expensive craft/hobby, I didn’t know that until I really started getting into resin but I love it. 😭

      Get a beginner kit. Look up resin kits some will come with UV resin, and an uv light. Craft Kitsune, Sophie&Toffee, Amazon, Etsy. Look up UV craft kits in your search bar. Start with the Uv then work your way up to the 2 part. Your local craft store will sell the 2 part, you can get the small one and try that out, if you don't want to do the Uv resin. Beware the Aluminite Amazing clear cast, stinks but is really good resin. I won't buy it again, because of the smell.

      You ALWAYS need to wear a respirator and safety glasses and THICK nitrile gloves when working with resin, eco resin too! (Two pairs of gloves seem to be ok too) And do NOT sand it outside!! It will deposit in the soil, become micro plastic and pollute the planet for basically ever 🤦🏼‍♀️ Sanding outside does not protect you from inhaling it anyway.

Thank you for especially bringing up the dangers of resin dust. My art professor used to work with resin sculptures, and being around resin dust too often caused him to develop severe, life-threatening allergies to resin. He can’t even handle cured resin anymore. Another super helpful video!! I don't think I've seen many videos really explaining resin safety or anything about cleaning the pieces between initial demold and filling shakers. Is there a trick to using the UV resin on the perimeter to secure the clear film? No matter how I space it every time I have to press the film to make sure its pressed in and all sealed it always manages to leak in to the piece somewhat and something always gets stuck whether its tiny caviar beads or glitter.

    • @SweetArtCrafts
      @SweetArtCrafts  Před 4 lety

      I would suggest reducing the amount of UV resin for when you are applying the transparency film and then further securing that area with the second layer of UV resin that you do. That's what I do and I haven't had any things get stuck as yet.

    super helpful- i was thinking of getting into resin but THANK YOU for putting in a disclaimer- i could have seriously hurt myself, so now i know to wait until i have a more opportune workspace. still a very fun video and when i DO get into resin and i need molds, i know where to go!

    When you are doming with two part resin, how do you keep it from pulling away from the edges of the piece? That is my #1 problem. 😕

    • @amayaelizabeth3667

      emautumn maybe try to let some run down the sides when you dome the front and the same for the back and see how that works out

    As a Nurse Practitioner I LOVE YOU for putting lung safety and eye and skin safety FIRST!!!!! THANK YOU for reminding those amazing Parents out there that love to do crafts with their kids that THIS is probably not one of the BEST ones to do. I AM SO GRATEFUL…..If I had a nickel for how many times I have had a Toddler come in to the ED with Respiratory issues and the parent can NOT figure out WHAT they could have “gotten into”…..I saw her earrings and knew RIGHT AWAY she did epoxy & Resin crafting…..I asked her if she cleaned up well and wore a mask as well as WHERE does she do her crafts…..yep…..IN THE HOUSE IN HER “CRAFT ROOM” 🤦🏼‍♀️.
    Not anymore she doesn’t. Little one was ok but he will most likely end up with some allergic issues to these things down the line according to the Ped’s On Call Doc.
    I did suggest a ventilation machine of some kind and one of the RN’s said she uses a Nail particle air “cleaner” as she put it…..however, unless it is HEPA with a new filter put in after “?” Hours of use, then it is no use so a face respirator AND doing this OUTSIDE is the best idea if possible.
    So, good call and THANK YOU for reminding Parents about SAFETY for them and their LITTLE’S!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    That kind of mask is too expensive for me... Im literally starting in the "resin world".
    So I have a question, can I use normal mask? Like the ones we are using in this Covid time?

    • @juliannam3575
      @juliannam3575 Před 4 lety +5

      Honestly, I don’t see a problem with using a normal mask. As long as you work in a well ventilated area with gloves you should be fine. I have worked in a not so well ventilated area (no windows) and with no gloves nor mask. Don’t do what I did 😅 but next time I’ll be wearing gloves and a mask. You can also read the instructions of the resin you have and it should say what kind of protection you should use when working with it.

Brain damaged i am.

    You can get a gel brush at a nearby supply shop for the uv resin and you can clean it with Atleast 70% isopropyl alcohol. It could help spread it smoothly.
