Prey animals are pretty much scared by most anything as its advantageous to run from a perceived but nonexistent threat, rather than not run and then die from a perceived threat. If moopsy didnt evolve alongside swamp gobblers, and assuming what the man says is true, and that swamp gobblers arent an inherently timid and cautious species, then the swamp gobblers would just see a moopsy as prey, the same way a cane toad is viewed as prey to a coyote, dingo, saltwater crocodile, etc. Its also possible that they never coexisted, but a similar looking species does, that poses a threat against swamp gobblers. A dangerous predator that draws things in by acting helpless and pretending to be prey is a cool idea actually. The only thing i can think of that does that in real life are pitcher plants and flytraps.

A dangerous predator that draws things in by acting helpless and pretending to be prey is a cool idea actually. The only thing i can think of that does that in real life are pitcher plants and flytraps.
