Now that they're doing time wizard events at YCS&Co there may be a chance at some point. However, if they won't find a way to monetize, for instance, Edison Format, then there's no way they're adding it. People might enjoy it more than the actual advanced format in MD, which is their MD's source of income.

Battle City players feel today what normies who didnt play felt back then trying to understand Yu-Gi-Oh!
Yu-Gi-Oh! is in such an advanced state that Yu-Gi-Oh! players don't really know what's going on.
Yu-Gi-Oh! today in real life is in a state similar to the characters in the show experienced during duelist kingdom.
There's more dueling quirks and "Because I said so's" TODAY in real life than there were during the actual 2002-2003 duelist kingdom days on TV.
Playing Yu-Gi-Oh! today, feels like Bandit Keith telling Joey, "My machine monster can only be destroyed by physical attacks!" and we're all standing there left looking stupid.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Back then had a simplicity, a cat and mouse game that modern Yu-Gi-Oh! cannot sustain, because of the larger card pool.
There were overpowered styles back then too but the card pool wasn't so large and the playerbase was still infants, literally and metaphorically.
Yu-Gi-Oh! graduated from tee ball, now it's MLB but with more of the "Because i said so's" and the "When vs. ifs".
When vs. if is the most reasonable ruling that developed over time. But other rulings like chaining to your own card to block effects that would otherwise ressolve sounds like something cheaters would argue to judges to get ahead and everybody ran with it and now these TV-esque duelist kingdom-like interactions that would have not been out of place on TV i. 2003, take place in real life.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is goofy( not in a positive manner) because it has evolved to cater to the most repressive, try hard type of energy, while failing equilibrium that rewards skilled play and decision making. Skilled players will win more often but it's not purely a skill game anymore. I would put forth that DM era was a more skilled game than today's Yu-Gi-Oh!
Playing modern Yu-Gi-Oh! feels a lot like, "Giant Soldier of Stone, attack the moon!"
We fell in love with Yu-Gi-Oh! in spite of the quirks, not because of them.
I could see the direction Yu-Gi-Oh! was heading in the early Synchro days and, to say thag quirky rulings have led to needlessness in Yu-Gi-Oh! in an understatement.
By being SO legalistic and technical in your rulings, you lose the heart of the game.
"Giant Soldier of Stone, attack the moon," encapsulates what a real match of Yu-Gi-Oh! feels like.
Yu-Gi-Oh! was built on the idea that a difficult board was not impossible to break for the other player - that even if your opponent's proverbial cat is in a fortified situation, you can mouse your way in and around his/her board. Now it's force fed board breaking. "Nice Board, Dark Ruler No More." "This card cannot be responded to."
Duelist kingdom succeeded because as time progressed the game naturally evolved to a better and better understood state. The tv show reflected the evolving awareness of gameplay in real life.
Yu-Gi-Oh! regressed when real life gameplay started to imitate the show, and not the other way around.
Dealing with Actual Yu-Gi-Oh! players is to deal with legalistic, hard nosed behaviors that are hardly called fun.
    *FUN*
It's the reason we play the game.
We can all largely remember fun times back then, and the word fun isn't even generally used to describe the modern Yu-Gi-Oh! lexicon.
Maybe it's not just nostalgia based, but Yu-Gi-Oh! really was just more fun back then.
The evolution of Yu-Gi-Oh! is the evolution of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. What started reputably, shenangians pile up, and becomes disreputable.
You ever had a friend that was a compulsive liar, and you knew it, and everyone knew it, and everytime you hear them lie you know it's a lie too. And over time you become sick of the mounting lies. And the lying just continues to a point that there's no more lies to tell at that point, and you realize that's who that person really and truly is?
Thats what the reputation of Yu-Gi-Oh! has become to many of the playerbase. like. I miss the game the way that it was. it feels as though the game is behind us. Just as Adam and Eve could not undo the fruit, I feel we missed out on more time, as Yu-Gi-Oh! had crossed over at that point many years ago.

Why did they make cards if they are banned? Are they just not compatible with the game? Or did they just regret putting them out

    • @natecards1
      @natecards1  Před 7 měsíci

So there are a few answers to this question.
First: Money. Sometimes they make cards that are really good to push products. For example, in a recent set they released S.P. Little Knight. While I don't think this card will be banned anytime soon, it is a very impactful card when it hits the field.
Second: Unknown factors. Due to the large amount of cards in the game, it is really hard to know interactions between all the cards in the game. Someone will figure out strategy the may use old or new cards to find a way to win. While this is a great way to get better at the game, sometimes these strategies are way to strong and need to be banned to keep the game healthy.
Third: Cards being ahead of their time. Sometimes they ban cards that are way to powerful for when they are released. However, later on those same cards if released back into the game won't have as much impact due to the change of the meta.
Konami doesn't open say they regret releasing some card. But I'd like to believe that they do think it was a bad idea later on because of sales for new products. "Why buy new product if already released product is good and I can win with it" mindset.

to this day i thank konami for not making legacy decks exceed fun/rogue tier. imagine a 25 year old card game still relying on blue-eyes and dark magician decks to keep it alive. nothing is stopping people from playing w old cards, but it is ridiculous to expect a game this old to stay in the same power level as it released a quarter century ago.

I was in the age range for Yugioh when it came out, and I have a lot of cards. I didn't catch on quickly though, and a lot of players were super competitive and overall... toxic around my neighborhood.
If you didn't know EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING about each card and when to do what, you were mocked, excluded and had rumors told about you as a player, like you couldn't count attack/defense points, or you stole or tore up people's cards.
So this people saying things and a toxic Environment made me feel just unwelcome.
I am giving it another shot, but keys about me ...
    1. I don't want/care about being champ/king of games/ etc; I just want to play a game and make friends.
    2. The game is fun but it's not going to be my be all end all, there are other card games that I play and need to remember.
    3. I am human and I forget things, so people need, to, help me along.
These three things remembered, I am totally for giving it another go.

You forgot to talk about how toxic the community is, that part where you said the local casual community is "very welcoming" is absolute BS. It's literally the most toxic community in all of TCG communities. Best advice is learn the game alone or with a close friend because you will get flamed up and ostracized if you are new, they are not welcoming and are the most arrogant people in the TCG world. You're more likely to get into a fist fight with these people or get your shit stolen or ripped off than anything else. The game is far from balanced and you won't have fun at all unless you play the best of the best meta decks. My advice is stay far away from Yu-Gi-Oh, play something else if your interested in TCGs. Lots of other, better and more welcoming games out there.

banning cards is such a bad idea. it goes against what trading card games are all about in the first place.
More importantly however. these lists only benefit people who actually care about what goes on on the internet.
what if you don't even pay attention to any of this stuff? that, you just buy the boosters or whatever from your local shop?
there is an easier solution here. All the companies have to do is print cards that render those they wish to eliminate, obsolete. maybe for example, easily counterable?

Don’t go play in locals expecting to win. There’s always that one or 2 assholes playing top tier decks who will not let you do anything and win turn 2
