We went on vacation and came back and my wife’s 2014 1500 Silverado 4wd crew cab 5.3 well the battery was dead. My son bought an interstate battery from Costco I put it in not knowing I had to keep 12 volts to the truck. Now my tire sensors, and the best mileage number don’t work. So for every thing else seems to be ok. Now what a trip to a dealer. I really appreciate this video.
Thanks so much for this video!!! Had to do an oil change and the battery was four years old this month, so decided it was time to change it out. Just took my time with it and I'd really have to remind people that if you're a novice at attempting to work on any vehicle, there's a lot to be said for taking your time working on whatever it is you're doing. People that do this for a living will obviously be faster at things like this, but in taking your time, you won't damage things like clips that hold things on in various places. The battery tender is a great idea - I used it as I didn't want to take a chance on having to reset anything. Other than the fact that had GM been nice, they could've left the handle on the factory battery to perhaps help take it out, it went pretty easy. Really do appreciate people like you taking the time to put this kind of info out there for everyone!!! It's a valuable resource for anyone willing to do things themselves!
I was actually thinking of upgrading to the same battery when the time came. I was worried it wouldn't fit due to being bigger. Thank you for the demonstration.

Just wanted to thank you for making the video. It helped with my truck. The new agm battery is longer. I had to loosen the coolant reservoir bolt and pull back the tank to get the new battery to slip in but it did, and fits perfectly. Thanks again!
Awesome video i did it my self with no problems at all. And you are right they make it sound difficult with all that " Dealers have to do it because blah blah " but in reallity its a easy smooth process with just a couple tools.
Thanks for great video. I bout Durlast gold 730 cranking at auto zone. Better OEM. I think 800 would fit. took me about half hr. I did not have take lower arm bracket off. It came out went in easy just like He has shown. I did not use a tender and everything worked well I did not have reset a thing
I'd recommend caution when connecting a battery charger like that - with no battery attached. The open voltage a basic battery charger can put out can easily exceed 15 volts. I just changed the original battery on my 2014 Silverado. It was about time after 8+ years of service.
Your vehicles engine has a minimum cold cranking amp requirement. Your new battery should meet, or exceed that requirement. The higher it is above that the longer the battery will last.
How is that AGM holding up? Did you have the BCM re-flashed with the AGM charge profile? Or are you keeping a battery tender on it? A lot of people don't realize the GM computer controlled charging system is programmed for the OEM battery type. If your truck was programmed for charging standard/flooded batteries, since AGM requires a slightly higher voltage to reach full SOC they may be under-charged by your truck. Under-charging an AGM will reduce battery life, just an FYI. It is a very similar situation to modern trickle chargers that have an AGM setting.
I didn’t know about the flash however the battery has been holding up just fine. The vehicle is due to go in for a recall on the brake system I can ask the guys to look at it thanks for the heads up
@@WatsonsWagons NP, I went thru several AGM's on my Sierra over the course of 3 years, for the same reason. Most retailers of batteries are unaware. With your truck it will either be a BCM flash or a different SARVC (battery control module) which is that little hall sensor ring on the negative cable coming off the battery. Dealer should be able to set you up, but they may also recommend going back to the standard flooded battery.
I dont believe you need to keep voltage on the cables. I believe the radio has a built in battery . All I did was open and close the dr side window for reset.

Anyone know if the V6 (4.3L) engines still have the same sized battery tray? I want to replace mine with an H7 or H7 AGM but apparently the H7s are a touch longer than the stock H6 and there's confusion out there if it will still fit my '16 Sierra V6. Thanks.

I don't care about losing settings. I'm about to disconnect OnStar anyways. I want to remove that God awful ugly antenna on top too. It sucks they didn't make it easier than this. I got Rural King battery for $59.00 same battery at AutoZone was $189.00

I never thought of connecting a charger to the circuitry like that to keep the system energized when changing a battery. That's a terrific idea!

You can also buy a memory saver that plugs into your OBD port under your dashboard on the driver's side to save all your computer setting etc.

The coolant tank could have been made differently to allow easy battery remove.

DO NOT PUT THE GREASE OR SPRAY ON THE BATTERY POSTS BEFORE YOU PUT THE TERMINALS BACK ON! IT CAN IMPEADE THE CURRERT FLOW! HUGE MISTAKE!
Not true, you can put dielectric greese on before and after you put the terminals on, I always do it that way and never have any problems.
That cross member would actually cause more damage in a fender bender I would just eliminate it.
