      Forge is definetly buggy, I used to have trouble in halo infinite simply placing little cones and breakable dynamic props on top of crates and getting them to respawn consistently/property with physics to make a shooting range, something I've done in every forge since halo 3 in 2007.

      Here is the unfortunate reality. You don't own the maps you make, because 343 owns them already. Which means unless you somehow get them to cough up dough, they won't pay a penny.
      You would have to go to the barricades and do a united community strike, to even get the tiniest chance of that ever happening.
      It's more likely that 343 spits out some Master Chief royalty V-bucks which will be everything, because half the protestors get bored or say "ah, good enough" and nothing really changed.

Although I’m not deluded tho that will never happen lol. This will be a hot take but I’m just going to say it. The forgers are doing this voluntarily and are not forced to make these maps. They are not employed or contracted by 343 to do so either. They’re willing to take time out of their day to voluntarily to do what 343 won’t and make new maps for the community. If they want a paycheck, they should at least send in an application before whining about not getting paid. The ball is in their court, not 34 threes

    • @MrMegaMetroid
      @MrMegaMetroid Před měsícem +4

      @@jarde1989i cannot wrap my head around this logic..what?
      Because the situation changed, so now we are pushing for compensation as a community. Just because the situation is a certain way now, doesn't mean it can't change in the future. This is malpractice and very well deserves calling out, and 343 would be doing well to listen to this because it can go to court very quickly, as it has in other games before. This isn't community made content anymore like it used to. Those forgers work not only with 343, but it is easily provable that they are the ones keeping the game alive. This will likely be an easier case than in other games.
      And lastly: "why would 343 pay for something people willingly do for free"
      they wouldn't. The same thing as actual employeesin a work environment are getting taken advantage of. That's why people should be/are banding together to draw consequences for 343. The same reason actual employees should ALWAYS join unions. your entire comment just boils down to "why should 343 stop taking advantage of people if they are in no direct need to change it"
      and that is such a confusing thing to comment that i barely know where to start with it. What do you think community pushback (and at a later stage, a lawsuit) are for? People have power, and you are seeing that in action, hopefully people go all the way.
      Your idea of "pushback", as in, "just dont work for free duhh" isn't a viable option if there is a market of forgers replacing those who drop out. Theres always someone else to do it. Thats why ORGANISING pushback is alot more effective than just "do nothing" You are also well advised to do that in a contractual job environment. Just "doing nothing" or "doing less work" gets you fired and replaced. Organising gives you safety, as they can't just fire the entire company or a potential lawsuit if it goes to higher instances.
      It wouldn't be the first game and it absolutely wont be the last where people get money for their community work through a lawsuit

      Forgers are totally carrying the game right now but how would a compensation policy even be enforced. Do all forgers get free money or only the ones that have their map put into matchmaking?
      What about people who create custom game modes, should they too be paid even though its no where near as time consuming as forge itself.
      These are questions that need to be answered before demanding 343 to implement a monetary compensation policy for its creation users.

    @REDI2UM Před měsícem +12

    As a forger, it's important that we have some insight and control over what's coming in the future to forge, so that we can prepare and brace for changes or additions.
    One way they can incentivise this is by giving us a feedback forum where we can recommend new things and make suggestions - that perhaps could be ranked based off votes.
    This is especially needed for scripting and nodes, since we're still missing the ability to do even the simplest of tasks, because we're confined to only what's available.
    I also feel like the discussion surrounding Infinite in general is a lot less professional and formal. I either have to take to twitter or discord to get an answer, when there should be and outlet provided by 343. Feedback feels much less reliable because how do 343 properly gather that information. The best I can do for forge is report issues with screenshots or recordings
    I can't express my creative aspirations or recommendations because they don't provide an outlet for that. If they want the community to thrive, they can't malnourish us.

    They won't need to try and milk us with mircrotransactions if they knew how to properly innovate Halo.

I’ve barely managed to get the platforms to look right, and I have been trying for about a month now. I haven’t even gotten the layout of the map started, and considering how the architecture needs to be alien, I’m doubtful that I’ll ever get the map done, never mind get it into matchmaking. There is another idea, though, and I want community input so I know what to focus on first; “Sunion” with a lot of open space, pitfalls, and unorthodox movement paths; or “Permafrost” (ice caves) with tight corridors and restrictive mobility?

    A few years back I made a custom map for the indie game Brigador, for a community contest. The game's developers saw our maps and thought so highly of them that they put them in the game officially via an update... but they *also* paid us pretty handsomely for our work! If indie studios can pay fans for their work, why can't 343?

    I honestly think that the community as a whole should be so much more involved with the series. We should be the ones testing for bugs and providing direct feedback for everything. We should be the ones who have access to the tools used to refine maps if they're struggling (and people who go on to make those maps should be compensated for their time and work!). It's ridiculous that everyone BUT the community is being contracted, paid, etc to put time into this game, and hardly anything gets done. I know the guy who is in charge is doing his best, but when you start to fall off this much and you need a helping hand, why pay tens of thousands of dollars to people who are probably going to do the bare minimum, when you can pay that same amount (give or take) and get people who will give it their all to put some shine on the series?

Not only will the results be better, but they'll have the added incentive to keep working on new maps.

    While the work forgers are doing is amazing, I find it unfair to give something back to many when they aren't forced to do this work and are doing by their own will. I fell it would be a much better and fair thing to take the forgers that are standing out for their creations, as an example the forge falcons as I wrote before, for showing a so profound knowlodge of forge that they pass the level of many dev made modes and maps (I even heard they are trying to even make a helldivers like mode). As for how 343 could pay them back for their service, it variates for giving credits and armor, to turning into full out employes for Halo Infinite development and have greater support coming directly to them.

They could build a whole ecosystem around forge maps and creators with some ingame currency that players can earn ingame and maybe even buy in the shop and with that they could donate to specific maps/creator of the maps, when they have a specific amount they can get cash those out. The big problem i see with paying them directly is that forgers probably arent exclusive to the US and that could create some trouble depending on how they pay out. 343 could even do competitions for forgers to create the best map with a ranking system and in the end the best/most liked/played map guarantees a big payout or even a contractwith 343. The void canvases are nice and barebones, but one that would be awesome to have is a gas giant with it's torrential atmospherics in the skybox. Perhaps another water-based canvas where half of the map is under water, half is above. Perhaps a foggy canvas with half the map fogged, and no fog above it.

At the very least, I thing they should receive more "in game" benefits such as 343i nameplates and access to the "Eternal" blue flame armor ability. They've definitely earned that by carrying this game big time.

    The contest could put the top 3 winners in matchmaking and they split the 10k prize amount. They could do this multiple times a year to and still be cheaper than paying a dev studio and get much more high quality maps.

Forgers have been the ones carrying this game and why most people still play it, hell the community has been carrying this franchise for the last decade. Whenever 343 releases something that is very divisive to the lore or the games the community releases stuff the reminds people of the good old days of Halo, Forge Maps, game modes, mods for MCC, fan films both animated and live action, videos explaining and trying to make sense of retconned lore and making it still fit within the current lore etc. Instead of 343/Microsoft hiring more contractors and people who never really gave a shit about this franchise, hire people from the community, they have clearly shown they have the talent, merit and passion for this franchise to push it forward to greater heights.
