Ones tool box can NEVER be too full! Thanks for some nifty ideas! Now......that issue of the larger PVC cache tube and the question of getting the lid off if you should not find yourself carrying about a pipe wrench! Yes, you could smash it open....and ruin your tube for further future use OR, while in production, drill holes on either side of the 'nut' part of the end. After you seal it up, a squirt of water proof caulk in the holes. When the time comes to get in, you can scrap away the outside bead and with a knife, push the dollop of caulk through the holes and the, use a knife of trim down a small branch, feed it through the holes and ratchet that top off! Great vid......

Hey scootch! Being a plumber I work with pvc almost every day. You can use mil rose products "Blue monster" pipe thread sealant on the threaded plug. It will be water tight. It's not a permanent seal like silicone or glue. Best part is that it is safe for use on pottable water!

For years, I've been using ABS pipe and connectors for my tool storage, like for my set of Flexible Installer drill bits, any types and length of Tye-Rap and for any long tools that does not fit in any tool boxes. I have three 6" x 8' tubes on my truck's rack to store the grey water pipes for the pump. They are attached on the rack using stainless steel pipe clamps but I've been using outdoor rated Tye-Raps for years, without any issues.
Actually, the only project that I've made with PVC pipes is a manual water pump. There is a ton of instructions and videos on this that you can look up for.
    Keep on your good work.

I think you would rather not get in contact with people personally, so I will leave my thoughts here. I believe one of the most overlooked items to be salvaged is the tin can. Fruit, veg, sauce, etc. cans are a wonder of things to be used. The empty can gets dumped into the garbage almost immediately. It should not be. First use, the top of a can that have been opened is a lethal weapon if handled carelessly. It is mega sharp. When young we used it to cut meat, peel potatoes, shave small pieces of wood, etc. We were always warned to be careful because it is "so sharp". It truly is. Better than a knife for most things. Any size will do. The can itself was tapped with holes on either side and string attached to make a carrying bucket. Lots of holes were punched in some to make a sprinkler, some were hung around the garden to ward off rabbits, etc. Bigger ones were used for storage or waste baskets. Just though I would mention it. Just a few things, really too many to mention. Loved the plastic bottle shaved to cordage. Wonderful

    • @FelipeGomez-vx2sx
      @FelipeGomez-vx2sx Před 5 lety +1

String them together to make a trip alarm. The top if the can bend one side do you don't cut yourself. If stuck up in the mountains with no cup for rushing ice water falls? Use a beer can or food can. If the water is clear? I'd drink it in an emergency. That's what I did when I was back packing. Out of eight of us. No one brought s rope to repel down it up from steep Cliff's. Oop's. I was going to bring s top but a friend said he'd bring the rope. He didn't. I waited with the back packs while these boneheads slid about 75 feet down s steep mountain. Into a river with huge bolders sticking out of the water.eith giant holesIf you fell in them? You are dead! Fir as fast as the ice water was rushing through them. I was over the tree tops. I couldn't see or hear them. Then I saw one of them walking naked along the bank. I yelled at him. But he couldn't hear me. Do I threw big rocks to get his attention. He waived me to come on down. So one way was a rattlesnake. The other was s nest of big red ants. So I went with the ants and slid down 75 feet. When I came to s stop I was still approximately 15 feet from the bottom. It was all green Moss on granite Rock. Do I told them to throw me all their belt's. That's how I lowered the packs down. They were all drunk and high. We stayed and slepted on the bolder's.We had no light because a bonehead lost my lantern in the water! A bear tried to cross to get to us when it was getting dark. While we were eating. It could have crossed but it kept going back and forth? Then took off! Then I woke up with something licking the top of my Coleman sleeping bag. I had the rubber flap over my head. It was really foggy and dewy. I looked real slow on both sides of me. Everyone was accounted for. The licking stopped. I called out to my friend to look above me. He didn't even look. He said there's nothing! So I took my hand gun out off to the side and fired up into the air! I heard it run. I flipped the flap back and looked. It was a mountain lion.running straight up where we cane from. I thought it was a deer? Nope! Then they all woke up and said you don't have to be so serious! I said look and pointed!. So we packed up after eating. But. They thought we were all screwed because no one brought a top. I used my axe to make footings to climb out. Then told them to give me their belt's again. To get the packs up. Then used the belt's to help them get up! That''s how we hit out of there. We found a Hotel and bar in the middle of nowhere. We went into the bar. The owner said you guy's went where no one goes. With the rattlesnake's , bear's and mountain lions are. No chit?

You could make a blowgun easily out of pvc as well, if your hunting small game like lizards etc. You can even make darts for it from leftover pvc with some ingenuity since it sharpens so easily. If you have tarp you can make a tent frame or a teepee like tent. What I often think about is in a long term disaster situation what can you go find to help you that wont be already picked clean. Grocery stores will be cleaned out, gun shops etc. Theres not a big chance that a plumbing supply company would be.

Great Ideas. There are several books out there on things to make with PVC. also for sealing the tubs with the threaded caps, see if you can find some sheet rubber matting. Cut this to the proper diameter of the pipe and place in the tube. Don't cut the center out just leave it the proper diameter of the inside of the tube. This will act as a washer does in a hose connection. Plus in a survival situation, you will have the rubber gasket to use for other things.

Quick Tip: Use spray paint made for plastic. Most big box stores carry it. Scuff the PVC with sand paper and the paint will adhere much better and last longer. This will greatly enable you to camo or brighten (blaze orange etc.) your PVC project. Silcone grease will also help water proof any threaded fittings and make them far easier to take apart.

Scott Hill They do have a multitude of colors for plastic stain, which actually gets into the PVC for a better look. Granted, it's enough to prevent scratches and small dings, but you won't get any chipping like you would with paint.

We used the same cutters and glue brand forever. That purple primer is supposed to melt the pipe and the glue does too but your supposed to use primer (purple stuff) for water. It just seals up better. It’s not glue. And you can use tape dope and it will make it water proof. It’s a white tape that you put on the treads that will seal it up and keep in mind it will shatter like glass if you intend on using it as a weapon. Awesome video Sootch. Great tips

Thank you for your video...since the '80s some fellow workers made a large tent frame out of pvc... just throw a canvas on top and you have a place to sleep... and if I might add a frame for a shower was made easily just placing a shower curtain around and adding a couple of pvc valves to save water.... pvc can handle warm water to take a shower.... there is no limit of things to do with pvc... once again, thanks...

When you have put cement on the parts and you assemble them, you should give the fitting a 1/4 turn. The cement actually melts the pvc and needs the twist to bond the two pieces.

Good thoughts just a few things to add
Place desiccant in all tubes for storage
for thread sealing use food grade teflon or silicon grease (fills in the gaps and prevents self bonding )
Attach a home made wrench for the fittings outside if some one finds your cache they will have its contents anyway.
Store and batteries outside the electronics and in a sealed bag two sets (at least)
Any containers you make for water and food storage rinse and let soak from inside after glue dries to purge solvents.

As a plumber I would suggest a few things to do differently. 1 use the blue glue, you can see where you spread it easier than the clear. 2 twist the fitting after you get it on. It will spread the glue evenly and help prevent potential leaks. 3 if you want to make sure it is going to last long term wrap it in tape or uv resistant paint.

Thanks for making your video about PVC and it's uses. The purple is a cleaner/primer. When you put it on, it preps the surface. If you notice sand or other debris on the surface, have a rag handy. Apply the primer with the rag and promptly wipe off. It cleans away the impurities that would prevent a smooth connection, since tolerances are so tight with fittings. Then when you apply the "glue" it isn't actually glue. It actually melts the PVC surfaces. You "dry-fit" and mark with a sharpie, and label each connection A-A, B-B, etc. so all your angles will be as planned. Shove fitting on DEEP, and twist at least 15 degrees to the line. This allows the best permanemt connection. On another note, by placing a plastic sandwich bag over a screw in plug or cap, the plastic will seal, water tight, the threads. Most of the time its reusable. Another trick is to add an O-ring or a rubberband at the shoulder of a screw-type cap or plug...to mak IT wayer tight. Another trick, if you can locate them, they make industrial fittings that are schedule 80. Like for building handrails, etc. 2 way, 3way, 4way, 5way, and 6way fittings. They are pricey, but if you look at veemo, theyll Show you how to make your own fittings. I hope this helps y'all. Thanks again for your video!
