A criminally overlooked movie. Sam Riley was nothing short of extraordinary. He didn't play Ian Curtis, he became him. Simply amazing.
If Sam Riley had blue eyes, even his widow would believe he IS Ian Curtis.
If you just stumpled upon this, you will belive it's a the real band.
🖤
Er.. definitely not, Joy Division were much better.
I had the pleasure of listening to Joy in my early 20’s. I wore their shirt like a badge of honor. Then had the privilege of smoking a joint and had a beer with their old road manager in Milwaukee Wisconsin of all places. During a Hanni El Khabib concert. One of the highlights of my life. I’ll never forget it.
He is so freakishly like Ian, the film was confusingly real.
U think?
Thats a fucking really good way to describe it
Oscar performance
You can almost smell the depression it's that real
Piter Hook is Kurt Cobain))))
Sam Riley should of won a special Oscar for this performance
No he shouldn't have, he did a magnificent job for a first performance but as Ian not so much. He didn't really even like Joy Division going into this, his voice sounds very robotic and forced when he performs in the movie.
If he liked or not liked Joy Division is of no consequence. Plus Oscars should be acting awards (of course they are not, which is a shame), not singing awards.
Sanderus Well said
The trouble is: he would be accused of playing HIMSELF.
If Sam Riley had blue eyes, even his widow would believe he IS Ian Curtis.
I went into this movie with only hearing maybe one or two Joy Division songs, knowing nothing about the band. I'm now completely addicted to them. I went and watched their live shows around youtube and was blown away by Ian's performances on stage. The actor here embodied Ian, heart and soul, no question about it. Also props the actors who played the rest of the band as well. They really brought the movie home. Very well done.
Natalie Barber WHERE DO I FIND THE MOVIE?
+Carlos Martinez it's available on CZcams for like 2.99 I believe.
Its on Solar Movie
Money Funny. 9.99 now
Yo same!!!!
I left this movie very angry, sad and upset. This masterpiece evoked many emotions from me. I was totally consumed by it. Ian Curtis was such an Icon gone too young and too soon
Jose F Gutierrez I know he was too pure to live
When I heard this was being done i know that I'd either love it or completely hate it, being a lifelong fan of the band... It's actually t. the best biopic ever made in my humble opinion... well done, 10 out of 10, love the bit when the vocalist from "Crispy Ambulance" trying to stand in for Ian Curtis as vocalist later on trying to do a deal with Rob Gretton on how much he will be paying for the impossible task..? BRILLIANT!!! Also love how the band keep farting nervously backstage before they play on the telly 🤣😂🤣😂☮️💕
All the best Rock Stars are gone
Control is simply THE best rock biopic I’ve ever seen. Sam Riley with an incredible performance as Ian Curtis.
Is post punk

The guy playing the drummer.. you nailed it man!
I think we underestimate the genius of stephen morris sometime
I like how they are really playin, theres no background... fucking beautiful...
James Anthony Pearson, the guy who plays the guitarist, learned to play the instrument within 2 months before shooting the movie
how about the guys playing Peter Hook and Stephen Morris?
Actually I'd read no one of them know to play each respective instruments until the film. I think only Sam was the only one who actually know how to sing, that's the reason they chose him as Ian.
To be fair, most Joy Division isn't that difficult to play anyway
@@arch_6133 yeah true. the simplicity of their music is what makes them so unforgettable to me.
@@arch_6133 Unless you're a drummer...
wow he did a great job. He looks like Ian, sounds and acts just like him. Thats what I call good acting.
he's not singing tho, but as for the rest absolutely
FrxBass Sam Riley DOES do the vocals in the film.
he has the mannerisms yes, vocally not that similar, disagree.
This has to be he best impersonation I've seen, simply incredible Sam Riley was in the zone
I wore my first Joy Division shirt til only two specs of white ink were left on now an otherwise plain black T. Some rando came up to me and said " Is that a Joy Division shirt?" JD fans are truly a hardcore lot.
This guy really nailed playing Ian....
holy shit that's as close to real as real can get now to watch the movie
The guy playing Curtis is incredible
A gorgeous film.
One of my favorite songs ever.
Rowan Warrior The XX sounds like them*
jake weston they sound nothing alike. the XX are garbage.
Sam Riley crushed this performance. He's an absolute diamond :)
This movie haunted me for weeks after viewing...the pain reflected thru Sams( Ian) eyes is simply intense..spooky how it was channeled thru Sam.I won't cast any stones
against the other mates but dammit Ian was in pain...the music lives on, peace to my brother.. peace
"Well I could call out when the going gets tough, the things that we learned are no longer enough.
No language, just sound, that's all we need know.
To synchronize love to the beat of the show."
It's fucking genius actually.
nobody could have done it better than Sam.
Nobody could do it better than Ian Curtis himself
Probably one of the most eerily authentic performances ever!
I wonder what it must have been like to see them perform this song live-especially the first time they did. Having see the footage of the actual performance they did do, Curtis underwent an utter transformation mid-song. He starts out so calm, downbeat and understated, but then launches into his crazy looking dance and screaming into the microphone with his eyes suddenly bugging out. Must have been shocking to see in person.
For those who don't know, Sam Riley had never acted before this film. He was brought on specifically because he was a musician who bore a striking resemblance to Ian Curtis.
After watching the movie, and becoming a fan, I had to watch them live on CZcams just to see how good of a job the actor who portrayed Ian Curtis did. I was pretty fucking amazed at how well he actually did of him. He had him down great.
I don't know how you can say that, he nailed that song, He sounds and moved exactly like Ian. I'm not quite sure what more you'd want from a performance
the acting is so amazingly done that if you had to show this scene to someone who's never heard of Joy Division they'd probably think this is an actual music video and not a movie scene
OMG he nailed it..especially around @ 2:04 omfg he nailed it!!!
Image clicking on the tv and seeing the original and just being blown away by this, awesome, Ian Curtis was and still is a legend
the film blew my socks away xxx blinding fantastic acting x❤
Just watched it for the first time last week. Couldn't agree more.
Finished my third viewing of it last night, absolute banger of a film with a Legendary band.
That was scary and amazing at the same time, fantastic
Rest In Peace, Ian Curtis. Only in your passing were you even mildly understood. But your music will influence the world for generations to come.
He didn't actually make most of the music, the lyrics more
The drumming is frenzied, and the singer is hectic, wonderful and well done manke lads 🇮🇪👏
This gives me goosebumps all over. Amazing performance and movie.
Frighteningly uncanny. Hair on my neck raised when watching this.
My beloved Joy Division ❤
From 1988 till today my favorite
Sam does such an amazing job bringing ian curtis to the screen in Control, every scene he does is exceptional.
Sam has Ian Curtis' mannerisms off to a T
Vocally not identical though.
The actual performance they're trying to replicate has a much more raw sound, but all four of them seem to become the characters. The fella playing the bass even has it really low just like Hooky plays it. Great attention to detail.
obviously there's only one Ian Curtis but this is an amazing performance and Sam Riley really did justice to the part and he himself has a wonderful voice
Samantha Morton's expression at the end of this kills me every time
The attention to detail in recreating a performance like this is insane. I actually have no idea how you would go and find people who played like this. You gonna ask a pro to play like they've just learned their instrument? Gonna ask an amateur to play like they're possessed by a spirit? It's impossible
that fella got it down to a tee, brilliant performance
aaw thnx for posting this scene is indeed incredible!
THE best film i've ever seen.
Sam Riley has the 'dance' bang on!
He Definitley did Ian justice!
Loved Joy Division forever, saw this movie at the theathre when it was first released and bought the DVD when it was first released...
Didn't they play "Shadowplay" on this show?
Alexandru Banica yes, but The Killers had already covered that song for the movie, so instead they decided to combine the intro from that performance with the T.V. version of Transmission
Atuação impecável, não me canso de ver!
She's Lost Control was first on Unknown Pleasures which came out on June 14th and the Transmission single was released in October of that year.
i love the actual live performance that this is based on
they did an amazin job its like the same
Fantastic!
Top acting from Sam Riley and the others. Love this Band. Love this movie.
Uncanny. Spectacular performance!
What a true portrayal from every actor in this film! One day I believe each one will be rewarded with the reverence they deserve...
Sam Riley’s performance is just astonishing. Compare side by side with Ian Curtis. He nailed it. ❤️🤩❤️
Ver a sam riley interpretando a Ian curtis de la manera que lo hiso...es simplememte sublime !!
3 years..thats awesome, I was only expecting 2 month
Pedazo de pelicula!! Quien mas que Anton para reflejar la vida de Ian y Joy Division !! 😍🤩

When his arms start to move, Im like yay! GO OFF! Love the dance!
Extraordinarily Amazingly watchable

Best cast ever! they chose very good actors who were also musicians. Harry Treadaway and Joe Anderson nailed it.
Brilliant!!!!

Bernard❤
Very well done
Loved the movie. Only knew of some JD songs but realise now how important and what a benchmark they set. Beats the pap and dribble that hits the airwaves now.
I was wondering when this lad was going to get into it. Glad to see that he let the music and the beat take over.👍
Acabo de ver la película.... increíble actuación.... Sin palabras, lo aplaudo de pie

RIP Ian Joy Division where on the cusp of greatness.
such an underrated movie, the actor became in a sense Ian Curtis and made a one of a kind performance.
That dancing is amazingly accurate
these actors nailed it
Emozionante e unica ❤
I wonder why they decided to merge Tony's intro to their performance of "Shadowplay" on Granada Reports with the performance of "Transmisson" on Something Else?
hooks, i guess
