  • With Zendikar Rising, we return to the plane that for so long brought us the monsters known as the Eldrazi. With the Eldrazi all defeated, Zendikar can grow into the world it was always meant to be. But how did we get here? What is the full story of Zendikar? From the original Zendikar set to the Battle of Zendikar and the evolution of the Gaterwatch, lets examine the full history of this world as we return in Zendikar Rising!

    I hate they killed two of the eldrazi by burning them, but I like that it was through channel + fireball

    • @alexbelfry8796
      @alexbelfry8796 Před 3 lety +20

      A few things let me accept it. First they just burned their physical forms right? the actual ''eldrazi'' whatever that may be could well still exist in the blind eternities.
      And it was a fireball powered by an entire plane that's whole characteristic is ''extremely pumped with mana''

      @@alexbelfry8796 They first pulled the whole body of the eldrazi into the plane. The story makes it clear that the full bodies of ulamog ang kozilek were so huge they filled up the whole sky of zendikar. Then they torched them. This was the only way, according to Ugin, to kill an Eldrazi, because if even a piece of them remained in the blind eternities they could run away and recover eventually.

    • @hyperluke1034

      @kyoken8691 Před 3 lety +15

      @@hyperluke1034 They actually just pulled really hard. Ugin used this analogy. Imagine the plane as a lake and the inhabitants as the fish living in the lake. The Eldrazi is like a hand entering the lake to catch the fish. If you cut the hand, the rest of the Eldrazi is still outside the lake, so what you do is use the hand to drag them down into the water and kill them while they're submerged.

  • @keenanevans7888
    @keenanevans7888 Před 3 lety +36

    What about the entire sorin vs nahiri arc, where nahiri went to innistrad saying "the fuck, bro"
    Sorin retorts with "lol sorry, but you fixed it so w/e"
    So nahiri goes on a rampage and sorin locked her in the hellvault, then she broke free, murdered all of Sorin's family, stuck him in a wall, and then called emrakul to Sorin's home plane all in the name of revenge, leading to the "Shadows over Innistrad" couple of sets
    I guess it's more innistrad lore, but it seems like a big exclusion that explains nahiri's absence from Battle For Zendikar
    EDIT: OH it's summed up in two lines at the end

    Great video - really enjoyed the chronology that you set up within the 25 minutes I spent with you on Zendikar!
    Few questions regarding lore though - firstly, I thought that Ugin was the spirit dragon way before he even met with Sorin and Naihiri and didn't become so before reappearing on Zendikar to tutor Jace.
    Question the second - you mentioned that the reason Naihiri sealed herself in stone was to extend her life, but I thought that as an Old Walker she was effectively immortal?
    Thirdly, you mentioned that in Zendikar Rising we'll see the world as Nissa knew it, pre-eldrazi corruption... Isn't Nissa a NewWalker, so wouldn't her entire life be the eldrazi had been sealed on Zendikar, meaning this world will be different for her too?

    I also like Magic the Gathering. I got into that game much later. In this video, I learned a lot about what Zendikar is like. It is basically the Magic the Gathering plane with a Lovecraft theme. The idea of the mana and life of the world is interesting. It is also noteworthy for having the gatewatch. I find this group interesting. There is Nissa, Chandra, Jace and Gideon. I have noticed something. There is no Lilliana in this video. I wonder what happened to her. I am used to her being with the other four. Oh well. Sorin does have black, like she does. Maybe he takes her place in this story. In a way, the Eldrazi titans are the Magic the Gathering version of the Old God in World of Warcraft. Between those two games having Lovecraft and eldrich abominations is a thing.

    Was there a retcon? The MTG wiki says that Ob Nixilis lost his spark because Nahiri stuck the hedron in his skull.
    Edit: Also at about 6:50 , you say that Nahiri encased herself in stone to extend her "mortal life". It's my understanding that, as a pre-mending planeswalker, she was immortal. Additionally, I remember reading a story (which I can no longer find) which recounted how she had lived alongside the Kor but eventually grew detached as she was timeless and they were mortal, doomed to die over and over. So she eventually retired to slumber in the stone (attached to the pulse of the world essentially) to only awaken when needed. Then she woke up and discovered vampires and went "???"

    • @Kahadi
      @Kahadi Před 3 lety +1

      I was thinking the same thing regarding Nahiri being in the Helvault. But at the same time, I'm a little confused there still.
      I know she was sealed in the Helvault alongside Avacyn and Griselbrand. But wasn't the Helvault destroyed, freeing them, in the first Innistrad block? Thus the return to it, where Avacyn had been corrupted. And when it was destroyed, Nahiri was set free and attacked Sorin for everything he had done, but he managed to hold her off. But she had also been corrupted. Something like that, details are fuzzy to me.
      My confusion lies more in the timing of that. I could have sworn Nahiri being released was before Sorin visited Ugin, before Sarkhan Vol brought dragons back to Tarkir, before the Eldrazi were released, in which case it brings back the question of why she didn't join the fight to save Zendikar. Or am I wrong and her release, the destruction of the Helvault, happened after or even during the Gatewatch's fight to save Zendikar?

      The timeline is Zendikar - Worldwake - Rise of the Eldrazi - Innistrad - Dark Ascension - Avacyn Restored - Battle for Zendikar - Oath of the Gatewatch - Shadows Over Innistrad - Eldritch Moon.
      Zendikar - Jace, Chandra, and Sarkhan Vol inadvertently unlock the seal for the Eldrazi.
      Worldwake - Nissa and Sorin travel to the Eye of Ugin. Nissa betrays Sorin in the intent. Instead of redoing the seal, Nissa completely undoes it hoping the Eldrazi escape Zendikar, the world that held them hostage for so long.
      Rise of the Eldrazi - Gideon fights the Eldrazi. He figures out he can't fight them alone and leaves to recruit other Planeswalkers.
      Innistrad - Not much happens in story. It just introduces us to how things work in Innistrad but we do find out Avacyn is missing and that the moon has great effect over the denizens of Innistrad.
      Dark Ascension - Sorin comes back to Innistrad to find that his angel, Avacyn, has gone missing. The power balance has shifted and humans are getting overrun. The city gates have fallen. Cities are getting breached.
      Avacyn Restored - Liliana uses an ultimatum black spell to destroy the Hellvault (look at her ability for the set). Nahiri, Avacyn and Griselbrand are released. Liliana kills Griselbrand in a surprise preemptive strike.
      Battle for Zendikar - Nahiri returns to find the Eldrazi have devastated her home world and forsakes it believing it is beyond saving. Ugin gives Jace advice on how to stop the Eldrazi.
      Oath of the Gatewatch - The Gatewatch alongside Kiora defeat Kozilek and Ulamog.
      Shadows Over Innistrad - Nahiri created a beacon to attract the Eldrazi to Innistrad. Emrakul encroaches upon the plane corrupting Avacyn and Jace. Liliana takes Jace to Tamiyo who "repairs" his mind.
      Eldritch Moon - Nahiri defeats Sorin and traps him. She leaves him to watch helplessly trapped and unable to stop the devastation of his world the way he did to her. The Gatewatch with the help of Tamiyo manage to seal Emrakul inside of Innistrad's Moon.

    Bolas' motivations are exceptionally stupid for a being of his supposed intelligence. "OK, these Eldrazi could challenge even me if they got loose. So I'm going to arrange for them to get loose, and for these heroes to fight them to see if the heroes are capable of fighting me." So..... if the Eldrazi win, Bolas has already conceded that they're more powerful than him, and now they're loose. If the heroes win, they're more powerful than the Eldrazi that Bolas has already said would be a challenge.

    What happened to the whole part where sorin goes to zendikar alone to stop the eldrazi from escaping. And sorin teams up with nissa to solve the problem until she betrays him and frees the eldrazi. Then he dips to safe guard innistrad

    I don’t understand. You said ugin told Jace they need to trap them and not kill them but then said Chandra just burned the crap out of kozilek and ulamog and killed them. What did I miss?

      If I understood correctly, Jace decided to disobey Ugin and kill the eldrazi so they would never have to worry about them again.

    • @tristanmabbitt9828
      @tristanmabbitt9828 Před 3 lety

      If I understand correctly, it was a couple misunderstandings, Sorin was a bit of a dick about it, and then Nahiri called Emrakul to Innistrad, and it escalated from there.

      This video reminded me of why I hate the stupid lizard. I mean, what did he think when he planned for the release of the eldrazi? The motivation stated felt like they pulled that out of their asses to drive the plot forward.
      Nicol Bolas has no actual motivations or personality except for being an amalgamation of every villain-cliché.
