    Sir
Some people in Pakistan have realized mistakes of past and it is time to learn from history and move forward for peace and harmony for better future. Respect from India

Prof. sb apka ihsaan hai for narrating and correcting the history that we know in Pak. We made blunders from day 1 and till now regarding handling India and Kashmir. Pak needs to move on and be in better terms with India, there is no other option.

England and Germany both are liberal democracies run primarily by Governments that support rationality, intellectualism, civil rights and so on.
They have invested so much in education(liberal, secular, scientific) that now demagogues are not found in their polity hence little rhetorics, no chest thumping, no jingoism, no knee jerk reactions.
A large number of their population(esp. Youth) don't associate themselves with any religion.
You are comparing Indo-Pak with two very different countries.
You can choose Asian countries for comparisons don't jump to Western Europe.
We cannot be compared to countries like Germany, France, UK.

It was Gurmani not the Nawab Sahib who sent feelers. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE NAWAB SAHIB DECLARED HIMSELF INDEPENDENT ON 15 AUGUST BUT WAS MADE TO CHANGE HIS MIND. Please refer to the book by Dr Yaqoob Bangash, A Princely Affair, where he has mentioned that.

    The Treaty of Amritsar
The British demanded payment of 15 million rupees[11] (one and a half crore) as reparations for the cost of the war. As the Lahore Government was unable to pay the whole of this sum immediately, it ceded some of the territories mentioned above, including Hazara and Kashmir, as equivalent to 10 million rupees (one crore). The Maharaja was also required to pay 6 million rupees (60 lakhs) immediately.[12]
The British then sold Kashmir to the Raja of Jammu, Gulab Singh, for 7.5 million rupees (75 lakhs). The treaty of sale was concluded on 16 March 1846, in the Treaty of Amritsar and signed by Gulab Singh, Hardinge, Currie and Lawrence.[13] Gulab Singh thus became the founder and first Maharaja of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir.

I know that you are a historian, and you do not wish to take sides or offer solutions to the problems that are raised. The word for History in Sanskrit is Iti Hasa i.e. this is the way it happened. Like Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon, the same incident seen by four different persons, have four different interpretations. Intellectuals like you on both sides of the border must join together and campaign to have LOC ass the effective border. There does not seem to be any other solution. Historians like you tell what happened, but there are no solutions to the "mistakes" of the past. This constant anti india rhetoric in Pakistan over Kashmir does nobody ay good. Musharraf is on record saying if Kashmir is not there, we will find some other problem.

There are vested interest of our elite esp when it comes to Kashmire. We, the people want peace and progress on both sides of the border.
