      @GreatDayForAHike  Před rokem

      Thank you. Great question. So this could be if your ISO Max is set to 1600. You would likely want to bump that down to a Max of 800. This could also be due to Hypersmooth being turned on. Hypersmooth does not work well in low lighting due to how the electronic image stabilization functions. This video goes into detail on best low light settings and may be worth referencing for some of the other settings: czcams.com/video/2OrNT5e-1u4/video.html

    Nice video. I set my white balance to Native and the colour to Flat so that the gopro doesn't adjust the colours so I can get best results tweaking them later to get the most out of shadows and, with the -.5ev, the highlights as well.
    Can't you still use Raw Audio when there is an external mic connected to create a wav file for the mic input? What do the different setting underneath Raw Audio use?
    The media Mod works, it's the Max Lens Mod that comes out in the November update.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 2 lety +1

      White Balance of Native also works well as that is a specific value and not constantly changing like Auto. Flat is also great for the color mode if you want to do color correction with editing. Great choices for max editing control.
      Great questions. The three different settings under Raw Audio apply various levels of processing to the Raw audio tracks if set to anything but Off. My understanding is these only apply to the in-camera audio only and will apply multiple audio tracks from the different mics with varying levels of processing based on the selection under Raw Audio. In that situation I recommend keeping Raw Audio to Low for maximum control with audio editing later on.
      I’ll test this out next time I have my external mic connected and see if setting it to Low offers me additional audio and if that comes from my external mic or the in-camera mics.
      Thanks for the clarification on the mods.

The only thing I see I have not done is setting the white balance to 5500K. Can that be the reason why my skin tones looks weird?( I have it on auto). You got a new subscriber from Norway.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 2 lety +1

      You’re welcome. White Balance can make a difference with skin tones. You could also try setting the Color to Flat or Vibrant instead of Natural to see if you like any of those better. It’s most likely either White Balance or Color affecting this. Thank you for your support!

      Yes, so this sounds like your device may not be handling footage with the h.265 codec well. H.265 is a challenging codec for a lot of devices to handle. A couple options: set the GoPro to only allow for the h.264 codec to be used. This will create some resolution and frame rate limits.
      The other main option is to make sure you render your footage first in DaVinci and/or use a proxy for editing such as making that footage 1080p resolution via a proxy while editing.

    A great informative video. I have a question for you. If I was going to use a polarized lens for fishing videos should I change my shutter speed just like when using nd filters? Also will the polarized lens effect stabilization?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you. Polarizing lens do not have the same effect on stabilization as ND filters do. Generally with polarizing filters you can have Hypersmooth on as it is assumed these would be used in bright lighting. Shutter speed could be adjusted to twice the frame rate but generally this is not beneficial unless the lighting is low enough because it would still be too bright since the polarizing filter does not alter light in the same way or same degree as the ND filter. However, if the light is low enough to not need an ND filter with the shutter speed double the frame rate then you probably wouldn’t need a polarizing filter. So I’d keep shutter at Auto when using just a polarizing filter.

    Thank you for possibly the best video on all of CZcams explaining the best settings on the Hero10….perhaps you can assist with this question: I have been using iMovie but not entirely satisfied, so, what would you recommend for a good editing software that would be simple to use and not very costly…..thank you again!

    Thanks for the help with my settings, although I'm having trouble with the application Quik, can't connect, it just doesn't work right, it could be me, but why should it be that hard , just to up load to CZcams, and it overheats,while I'm trying to connect to the app,

      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 2 lety +1

      You’re welcome. Unfortunately the Quik app I have found to be buggy and inconsistent in the past. I have found it works better on iPhone devices than on Android. GoPro developers have come a long way with the app but it can certainly still use improvement.

      Thank you. I recommend either the Rode Wireless Go or the new DJI Wireless Mic that is being released in January 2022. It is important to note that you do need an adapter to connect the 3.5mm audio jack to the USB-C port on the GoPro. Or if you own the Media Mod you can connect the wireless mic directly via the 3.5mm port on that.

    Can you recommend best settings for cycling both body cam and handheld please?

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před 2 lety

      In general you will want the lens to be either wide or superview when cycling. This will give a great field of view of your adventure. Most other settings would stay the same regardless of whether you use it as a body cam or handled.
      If you’ll want to slow any of your footage down later on when editing then I recommend shooting in 60 fps for those clips. Otherwise I recommend filming in either 24 or 30fps.

    Awesome video!! and new sub from me. What about aspect ratio? It looks like all of your settings were in 4:3. That would have the bars on the sides correct? But all your videos while watching this were in 16:9 full screen it seemed. Thanks.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před rokem

      Thank you and thank you for your support! When I film in 4:3 it can give me a bit more reframing flexibility up and down with the clip. The clip fills the frame horizontally on a 16:9 timeline but has some extra parts of the frame to work with at the top and bottom.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před rokem

      Basically that 4:3 translates to a 16:12 resolution and on a 16:9 that 12 translates to extra footage vertically.

      @@GreatDayForAHike Thank you so much, I was shocked at first filming with the bars LOL. But it does give a lot of depth and post edit you can change how you want. I thought 4:3 was evil lol. But gives me good ideas. Thanks a bunch for the feedback.

    Thank you so much for this info. It’s incredibly helpful. However, I have 1 question: I don’t understand why you have a bit-rate of 30 fps in cinematic mode but 60 in Standard. I’d think you’d want more latitude for editing in cinematic mode. I may not be grasping the concepts well😢 . Thanks again, I just recently bought the GP10 & am new to video.

    • @GreatDayForAHike
      @GreatDayForAHike  Před rokem +1

      You’re welcome. It’s a valid point and I get what you’re saying. 60fps footage can of course be dropped onto a 24fps or 30fps timeline (I prefer 24) and be used. 60fps does also allow for more flexibility and slowing it down as you mention. I think this is more of a matter of which mode I put these presets under with the respective label. You could so 60 under that mode and still make it cinematic of course.
