    I’ve had a 2020 EX-L for a little over a month, about 3,000km on it, no oil dilution problem. No smell of gas, oil level is over 80%, likely to get close to 20,000km between oil changes. In comparison, Toyota is 8,000 and Hyundai is 6,000. We drove Toyota Sienna’s for about 21 years (1998-2018) and bought a CR-V as a 2nd vehicle in 2012. That decision was because we liked the design of the CR-V over the RAV-4 but we never seriously considered Toyota since Honda maintenance has been so much cheaper.
    This is the 3rd CR-V we’ve had, although we enjoyed our Sienna’s we did have fuel injection problems that required service and part replacement around 100,000kms. We also had one engine problem that could have cost us $4,500 CDN to fix. Since purchasing Honda in 2012, we’ve never had a repair issue and maintenance costs have been cut significantly.
    Also, about the oil dilution issue, there is none. Everyone’s experience is different, we live in a cold climate and the 2020 warms up a lot quicker than the 2010 or 2016 CR-V. As many know the turbo generates a lot of heat so it was a balance of cooling the engine that required the software update. And for those that claim that it was an engine change in 2019 & 2020, it was not. Again it’s a balance of the open / close loop which is managed by software, not hardware. Do your own research.
    In my situation though it may not have mattered as much, I live in an area with a lot of rolling hills. I need to rev up to 2,500 no matter what direction I go so I can warm up the engine in as little as 3 minutes even in -10 Celsius weather. My 2010 or 2016 engine could not do that, it would take 5-7 minutes. So from my perspective, the 1.5L (L15B7 Engine) is much better than the 2.4L I had in my 2016 (K24W) or 2010 (K24Z4) CR-V.

    Thanks for covering Honda's auto idle stop in the CRV At 19:28. I think youre the first reviewer to give an opinion on how the system felt when active. Other reviewers don't even bring it up or just pointed out that it's a new feature for 2020.

    • @SCraig-Handsome
      @SCraig-Handsome Před 4 lety +1

      I have the EX-L, I like this feature, it is not used until your engine warms up and makes a lot of sense especially if you are stuck at long traffic lights, traffic jams etc. When you start to accelerate it’s definitely not as fas as if you were not using it, but just enough that the car behind you will notice that you were delayed in reacting to the traffic light or the car ahead of you.

    • @JuniorFan08
      @JuniorFan08 Před 4 lety +1

      @@SCraig-Handsome Both of our vehicles, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee V6 and 2019 Subaru Forester have the auto stop start. My wife hates it so shuts it off on the Subaru which is her car. I usually leave it on in the Cherokee but shut it off in heavy traffic because of the continuous on and off. I have learned in both cars not to immediately step on the gas when the engine restarts. I have found that the transition is smoother in both cars if you let the engine and transmission catch up to itself before accelerating. Just waiting a second or two makes a big difference in both cars.

      SUVs these days are incredible pieces of highly functional engineering, and thanks to the very exacting engineering and assembly standards of most of them - it is hard to buy a “lemon”. But it is no wonder why the “current crop” (2017+) of CR-Vs consistently rate #1. The smoothness of the CVT, the quiet-yet-powerful 1.5 turbo, the upscale interior of the EX-L trim, the competitive pricing, and of course the incredible mileage are undeniable features that make CR-V owners very happy campers.

    Thanks for the review. I liked your attention to specific comfort issues such as seats and noise which to me are far more important than how headlights might look. I really like the overall feel of driving a CR-V but there is no getting away from the overall impression, whether it be Consumers Reports, JD Powers, anecdotal comments, that the reliability of modern Hondas have taken quite a hit in recent models. The cause is most probably management greed. I'm quite certain that Honda engineers and builders know how to do better but they are given absurd profitability objectives and it reveals itself over time. I'll probably end up buying a RAV4 because traditionally I choose less long-term problems over short term enjoyment. BTW, my friend's 2018 CR-V is exhibiting the parasitic battery drain problem and she would love to sell it. Her dealer is of no help and I was the one who had to research the potentially applicable service bulletin.

      Well, considering this CRV is 4 years old, it would be Toyota's (in this case) obligation to come up with something more modern. The boring part is totally subjective as I find that RAV4 extremely boring in and out.

      I bought Toyota Sienna’s from 1998-2018, only had a couple of problems, 1 major engine problem. I like Honda a bit better overall, you pay for the name with Toyota, labor rates are high but the costs of parts really gets you after awhile, can’t seem to get out of the dealership without paying at least $300. You can usually get 8,000km or so per oil change so that’s better than some other brands but Honda maintenance is only done when you need it, so you could get 14,000 out of your oil change on average. I’ve never had a repair issue with Honda, been buying them since 2012, and pay a lot less in vehicle costs overall when you factor in maintenance and the way they package the product if you bouhgt new.
      Of course we love the design of the CR-V ever since Generation 2, RAV 4 is better now but it used to be really ugly. Both are manufactured locally here in Canada (Ontario) so they are both good options. Also, I would say that my only bad experience was when Toyota moved manufacturing from Japan to Atlanta, the engine belt snapped after 25,000 km and destroyed the engine, my next one was built in Ontario and I had no issues with it. We miss the size of the Sienna on some long trips, minivans are great for fmaily trips.

    Bottom line, you get what you pay for. If you test out CRV and RAV4 side by side, the Toyota is much higher quality and feels firmer and more powerful. Aesthetically, the Toyota is nicer too, outside and in. Honda is way outdated. I’ll take the quality Toyota “softex” faux leather (that at least looks and feels good ) over that cheap plastic faux wood in the Crv. And forget Crv if you want to drive down anything more than a dirt driveway in a light mist.

  • @jimwillingham8052

    You are foolish if you buy this car. The oil dilution problem is serious. It has not been fixed and is a problem on 2017 and newer CRVs and Civics. If you have one, sell it before everyone finds out about this issue. This engine won't last and you will be lucky to get 100k miles out of this engine. Of course, changing the oil every 3k miles will extend the life of the engine, but most people won't do this.
