    I used your leave it technique when my dog was 4 months old. She is a leave it pro now. We also used your “place” method and it worked fantastically!

    Thank you! they NEVER EVER get the thing (even if it's the same type of treat as the one you'll reward with) you're telling them to "leave," because one day the thing you're telling them to leave, may be something dangerous to them, and they shouldn't think that if they just ignore it when she says to, eventually, they'll get it anyway, or that they can just 'skip ahead' to the reward stage, and eat it anyway

      @@TheFlamingfighter The "Leave It" command is very important to teach dogs - it could save their life one day. Dogs are very curious, they sniff everything, and they investigate things with their mouth, and often end up ingesting them. Many things they're interested in, can harm them, so one must teach their dog to stop investigating something, on command/demand. The "Leave It" command is most often taught with something desirable, like a food treat. The dog will invariably sniff at it, at which point, you tell them to Leave It, closing your hand around the treat, to help them lose interest. When they stop sniffing or nuzzling it, and turn away, or back off, you click (assuming you've 'charged up' the clicker, & they understand that sound means 'good job, that's what I want you to do, and your reward is coming'), and then you give them A DIFFERENT TREAT. Even if it's the same kind of treat, the dog should never, ever get the thing you've told them to Leave, while training them. This is because, in a real world situation, the thing you're telling them to Leave, will most likely be something dangerous/harmful, so the dog should never think they're going to be given that thing, but a reward (praise, a pat, a treat), instead. Some people mistakenly train Leave It, by giving the dog the thing they've told them to Leave (because it's often a food treat), either out of ignorance of the implications, or just out of expediency, but this will cause confusion in the dog's mind, as "Leave It" will more come to mean, 'stop investigating it for a second, then you'll be given it,' when it should mean to stop investigating it, forever (again, because it's most likely something harmful).
      Better?

    Not bad, need to work on keeping your "yes" marker consistent. It changes alot producing different sounds.

    Might work ok when training but if anything like my dog when he gets hold of something hes not supposed to have "leave it" doesnt cut it

    • @bethrivera867
      @bethrivera867 Před 7 měsíci +1

      "Leave it" is for something you want the dog to ignore. If he already has a hold of it you should be using the "Drop it" command so the dog spits out whatever is in their mouth.
